So what’s all this about then?
So much for fair play eh? I guess Acer’s on the BigBoy radar now.
I know I’m late in on this one and you’ve probably read it all here anyway but I wanted to give it a few days and see where it went.
For those of you who don’t know, last week HP filed a law suit against Acer for patent infringement in the US prompting PC Magazine’s Jim Louderback to write:
Now I haven’t seen the court documents, and I don’t know which patents are contested, but I’m still not happy with HP. The world’s number-one PC vendor has decided to compete with upstart Acer in the courtroom, rather than in the marketplace. Now there may be some real serious items under contention here, but HP would do better to try to match Acer’s products instead of trying to tie it up with litigation. A marketplace of competitive products, going against each other on merit, is better than legislative obfuscation.
PC Mag’s article continues:
The lawsuit seeks to stop Acer from selling some products in the United States, including desktop and notebook computers, and media centers and related products, because HP alleges they use its patented technology, relating to optical data storage, circuits and methods for reducing computer system power consumption, multiple processors in computer systems, and an improved method for attaching devices to a digital serial bus, which allows communication between electronic systems.
Acer, for its part, has responded with this press release.
So whatever happened to those good old-fashioned product to product showdowns? You know, like Acer’s got Ferrari and they just keep getting better and better. Asus followed suit and teamed up with Lamborghini and that was cool. Well now HP’s tied themselves up with, em, Maybach…
Now where did that come from?
