Windows Vista on The Acer Guy

Here’s an interesting fact: Nearly half of the visitors to The Acer Guy are using Windows Vista.
I am assuming these Vista visits have a lot to do with the surge in interest over the Orbicam problems under this same operating system. And, as these Orbicams “stopped working”, I’m assuming all these people upgraded from XP.
Well, if you are in the 48.28% of visitors, can you let me know how the upgrade went? Were you brave enough to do it on your own or did you use Acer’s Express Upgrade?
Just for fun, here’s the OS split:
Windows Vista - 48.28 %
Windows XP - 47.52 %
Windows 2000 - 1.72 %
Mac OS - 0.95 %
Unknown - 0.57 %
Windows 2003 - 0.57 %
Windows 98 - 0.19 %
Windows CE - 0.19 %

I bought my Acer with Vista already installed. The Orbicam worked for the first few hours, then crapped out.
I’ve had it for over a month now, and it’s still not working. I’ve given up completely.

Ashley.
I know this is probably going to infuriate you if you’ve already checked it out but have you looked to see if there’s a problem in Device Manager?
Unfortunately these things are usually caused by software conflicts (as opposed to broken hardware) so your best bet, if the Device Manager option doesn’t work is to get on to Acer Support and DEMAND they help you get back on track.
Don’t give up!

I upgraded to windows vista recently, and downloaded the driver supplied by the acer site for the integrated orbicam on my laptop. But when I open the software it says that there IS no camera, I went on device manager and it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside it, so I click on the camera and it gives me this.
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
The required section was not found in the INF.
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
now when I go to programs, the driver is there. I now realize why I hate vista

@Cody
Strange one this I know but have you tried taking all images out of your My Pictures folder?
It works for 50% of these cases…
Or have you tried Debut?
If neither of these work, you might want to read this.

I have an Aspire series 5680 since 2 years with Vista alreay provided and installed when bought. I haven’t got any problems with the orbicam until few weeks ago, I was using skype without any problem.
But now it does not work anymore, I have tried many options (device manager is ok, driver is ok, to be sure the driver has been repaired then uninstalled and re-installed with the e-recovery management tool but nothing has improved. The driver is up-to date when comparing the e-recovery version and the version on the acer website.
I am really upset because when I start the orbicam it says that another application is using it….but I can’t find which one and all th epotentila software using the webcam are either OFF or have been uninstalled.
What can I do more for this troubleshooting ?? please advice.
