Right, I have an Acer Aspire 5630 with Logitech Orbicam. I had to upgrade the OS to windows 7 as the e recovery didn't work. As a result the orbicam stopped working although I installed the correct driver for it. i installed

http://www.filecluster.com/downloads/Logitech-QuickCam-Sphere-Driver-Windows-Vista-32bit.html

as I heard this driver tended to work rather than the acer version. But it didn't as webcam software kept saying the camera was in use. Out of sheer frustration i twiddled the camera bezzle and lol and behold the camer came to life. Now after evry restart I have to twiddle the camera to get i to turn on.

@Stephen,

I forwarded your post onto Simone in Acer tech support and just got this reply:

"This could be due to additional drivers or Software - it's simply not possible to know without checking the PC directly.
The main point is that webcams work fine also with native Windows drivers so I suggest you check to see if yours works OK with these drivers only. If you've downloaded Debut and this crashes too then the problem concerns more than your webcam and you should get your notebook checked."

I am still having problem with orbicam software. I have a 3273WXMi and asuyin camera (hardware id 064E) and have downloaded the 3270 Suyin driver pack from the acer support site. This requires a reboot to install.
Installed the pack and I can see the device installed in the device manager correctly.
However the device says usbvideo.sys is dated 2006 and on looking in the windows\system32\drivers folder it is dated 2008! Also I cannot remove or rename the diver.
Debut and orbicam software both crash on startup, debut recognising the camera, but not displaying a picture. But when you try to alter any of the parameters Windows throws up an unrecognised usb device error on Port_#0001.Hub_#0004
It also wipes out the installed imaging device and then says the device driver is not installed ,AND that all the drivers have been installed for this device and they are up to date!
Any idea how to get back to working camera as the light is on next to the camera, but no body is home! It is not a hardware fault is the camera did show pictures once before crashing today.

Michael, I seem to be having the same problems as most other people. My Acer Aspire 3102WLMi crashed; I tried to use the e-recovery disk but to no avail and Acer Support told me it was obsolete and they couldn't make me a new recovery disk . I then bought a new Windows XP OEM disk but that wouldn't load after the initial transfer of files. So I have reformatted and installed a brand new retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium which does work. However, now I have no orbicam (nothing at all shows in Device Manager) and my 3 USB ports have an exclamation mark and Unknown Device. I could live without the orbicam but I need the USBs to attach a printer etc. I believe the problem is linked. I have tried installing all the orbicam drivers (Bison, Logitech, Suyin etc ) for both XP and Vista (as there are none for Win7). I have kept on the Logitech driver for XP which at least gives me its webcam window and interface. I have loaded Skype to see if it could detect the orbicam but again no joy. I have even tried reverting from Windows 7 back to the OEM Windows XP but even though I got XP to load in a virtual box in Ubuntu, it won't load as a clean installation (Ubuntu has now been taken off as it had the same USB and orbicam issues). I have downloaded Debut but that can't find the orbicam. Can you offer any help at all? I have always liked Acers and even bought my daughter one but this lack of support for a 4 year old notebook is pretty poor. Help please if you can (great site!!)

Hello,

I have an Acer 5572WMXi purchased in Taiwan (while I was living there).

The webcam has had issues since upgrading to WIndows Vista (clean install)
During the Vista days the webcam worked intermittently.

I recently upgraded (clean install) to WIndows 7 and the webcam worked again! After a while my trackpad stopped working.

I re-installed (clean) win7.

After re-installing windows 7 the second time, the trackpad works but not the webcam.

The Logitech Drivers went in without problems and the device manager shows the device functioning properly.

When I try to start the webcam I hear the sound of a USB device being plugged in followed by the sound of a USB device being unplugged.

Any help or assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Morris, gretings from Spain

Finally great news

The Acer runs fantastically Orbicam Bison Windows 7 in the "old" Acer Aspire 5630
The way to make it work better in Windows 7 than Vista is to download the driver from the Acer website equivalent to Vista. That is: If you have installed Windows 7 Ultimate, you must download the driver for Windows Vista Ultimate. Run in administrator mode. Among the drivers is the "utility" of the bar Orbicam to be installed after

Hello friends Acer

I have an Aspire 5610 and Aspire 5630. The Acer Orbicam with Bison drivers work well on both Windows XP and Vista. The problem is they're not any of the two chambers under Windows 7. From what I see on the website of Acer, there is no support for Windows 7 of these models; and my question is ¿ has anyone managed to run the Orbicams under Windows 7?

Eureka! It's still working this morning so things are looking good at the moment.

I have 'Debut' in my 'Downloads' file readt and waiting and that was going to be the next step. But as it's 'holding' at present I shall not interfere and upset the apple-cart as it were.
