Ok,so I need some help as well and I really hope that you will be able to help me.I have an MSI laptop and it has Vista.The camera has never worked and I don't know what to do with it.It seems like the windows doesn't want to detect it.I thought it was the camera's fault because it's damaged or something but I checked Device manager and there is acer orbicam under Imaging devices.So I'm stuck now..I don't even know how to actually turn it on because after I press the button there's just a "connection" sound and nothing really appears and I don't even have a desktop icon of the cam (which I don't think is of any importance)so please let me know what should I do.Thanks in advance!

Hello people....
A client just brought me an Acer Aspire 5601 AWLMi Notebook. It has the following problem with the webcam: When you try to start the Acer Orbicam Software from the start menu or you try to start it from the Acer(r) Video icon in taskbar it says that the webcam is in use by another application.
Ok, so I started to kill processes one by one to see which one was using the camera.... and voila.... :) .... after CLI.exe was killed the webcam started working.
By the way CLI.exe is part of AMD/ATI Catalyst software and it had spawned two processes.... that is, two CLI.exe running simultaneously. Anyway, I killed one of the two and the webcam started working. I don't really know if the second CLI.exe was needed but I had no problems with that.
After a little research I found out that AMD/ATI says that it is normal to have two or more instances of CLI.exe running and it's true that after a restart you WILL get them running again and the problem will come back.
So I guess I'm not finished yet, but I hope I'm shedding some light in this neverending research.

Problem Description:

I downgraded an Acer Aspire 5630 laptop from Vista to XP Pro (SP3). The webcam is built-in with a "1.3 MEGA" to the left of the camera and a green LED turns on when camera is working correctly, it can be turned to face forward or backward, no other markings.

I tried multiple fresh installs of XP to see if each driver I found on the acer website would work by itself (no registry corruption, etc). I tried the Logitech by itself, the Bison by itself, and just having Windows find it. The Suyin driver doesn't exist for WinXP.

The closest I got to a working camera was the Logitech driver, when I installed the Logitech driver and application. Initially (on fresh install) the webcam worked with Logitech driver and application but on reboot it would not work anymore. It kept telling me that a) the webcam was in use by another program and b) “This graph cannot preview” and/or c) "Stopping Capture (Device Lost). Select capture device." depending on which application I used, I'd get different messages but these are among some of the messages I saw. In the orbicam application, the "preview" part where you can see yourself on the webcam would "try" to show up and just disappear, some kind of message would show up but it would disappear too fast to see it.

In device manager this webcam showed up as "USB\VID_046D&PID_09B0\5&20D0F3FF&0&4" as an "Acer USB Camera (OrbiCam), sometimes it wouldn't be listed at all or it would show up working or even not working with a return code (rc=10) if I had uninstalled/installed to the drivers too many times between fresh installs.

=========================
Problem Solution:

After trying all of these various drivers with no success, I came across another website talking about physically disconnecting then connecting the webcam and this fixed it!

Here are the details of what I did:

I turned off the laptop and disconnected the wall charger and battery. I then took the four screws off the plastic casing around the LCD screen. Once this was off I was able to take the plastic strip that is located above the keyboard (where the power button is at) off, pulling it off starting on the right side of the laptop. Next, I traced the connector from the webcam to the connector that connects to the top of the motherboard, it is a 5-pin white connector, very small and fragile. I marked it with a pencil to make sure I would remember which side of the connector is the top. I then VERY CAREFUL disconnected the webcam connector (at the beginning using a very small,thin flathead screwdriver to loose it up a bit on the edges and then using my fingernail across the entire surface I pulled it off).

I left the webcam disconnected and turned on the laptop using the power button next to where the white connector, I think it says something like "SW 1" on it, if you are not sure just look at the plastic strip you took off from above the keyboard. After Windows XP came up fully and on the internet, I very carefully plugged in the webcam connector, making sure not to touch any metal or shock myself. Windows found it as an "unknown USB device" and I had Windows automatically find the right drivers for it.

I then launched the "Acer OrbiCam" application and it worked perfectly. I rebooted to see if the fix would work still and it did (the webcam still worked). I then turned the laptop off, disconnected power and battery, and put everything back together, tested it once more and still worked.

A day later, the webcam is still working. I looked at the drivers afterwards in device manager and they are as follows: (1) lvselsus.sys - version 10.4.0.1319 (2) lvuvcflt.sys - version 10.4.0.1319 (3) usbccgp.sys - version 5.1.2600.5512.

Summary:

(a) physically disconnect the webcam with laptop powered off and battery out (b) connect webcam with power on, windows up, and internet connection working (c) have Windows find the drivers automatically (d) reboot to make sure it still works (e) turn off laptop, put everything back together and test it again.

Well! Well! Well! At least I am not on my own! I thought that it was something strange that I did that caused all this Orbi cam problem! Phew!..
I am on an Acer Travelmate 5510..According to MLN Melbourne Australia THIS model was made by Acer especially for VISTA!... True?
I asked if I could put my copy of XP pro on as a second operating system and was told it would be a real hassle getting the drivers to run etc.(?)
I have tried all of the previous fixes and still come back to it NOT working!
HOWEVER, IF I FORMAT \C\. and DON'T install M/S Office things appear to be just fine!
(Though it is a pain not being able to use power point at times!)

I have just had approx 4 months use with everything going okay. BUT, I then needed M/S Office urgently, The day after I installed Office and it had got all of its updates the Camera stopped working again!
    Surely Acer or Microsoft can do something about this? Acer are sure losing sales because of this 1 problem alone! My family members have all gone over to other brands!
Thansk for all the time that you must have put in on this!

Hi, my cam did not work with vista and i tried the above to no avail.
  Well I upgraded my Aspire 5633 WLMi BL50 to windows 7 home premium (even though Acer stated it was not compatible!).
   All I had to do was download the drivers and software (Bison) from Acer support site (which stated win7 was not supported!) and installed them.
Ran them in compatability mode for vista lol and all is good.
Stills, videos, choice of resoloution,timing etc and the stills tray all working and with messenger etc too. Neat little icon on the taskbar.
Why acer say my laptop is not compatible with win7 I dont understand, unless its to get us to upgrade hardware when it really isn't neccessary? Been using it for 6 months now, and it's great, no issues at all.
Thanks for the initial input, it put me on the right track. If your running Vista, upgrade!! 7 is so much better, everything Vista was supposed to be. Sorry to digress from the orbicam issue but I feel it has to be said;
STOP misleading people Acer!!
