World of Warcraft on the 6920

Posted by User ImageMichael Walsh (Check me out!) on Jun 17 2008 | Tagged as: Acer

As if proof were needed that you guys ROCK… gronkstergronk has posted a video of his 6920 playing World of Warcraft.

I’ve included his text description here but I’m sure this video is where most of you will stop.

Thanks gronkstergronk!

Hi Guys & Gals,

People have been asking,

Can the New Acer 6920 Gemstone Blue play games?.

Well here is footage of me playing World of Warcraft on it. The sound is awesome coming out of the built-in speakers. My version of the Laptop is only 2.1Ghz with Bluray and 2.1 surround.

But when the laptop is connected to a 32″ Samsung HDTV through HDMI and audio through a Sony Home Cinema Amp from the SPDIF optical output, it’s totally Awesome.

Well Done Acer this Laptop Rocks big time.

WOW’s system requirements are pretty low, my 5920 handled it on 1280×800 on 16xAA super playable, use something more demanding like crysis, or unreal 3 engine based. these are more popular benchmarking software

Samsung is another brand which offers you many variants of HDTV screens. Samsung uses LED smart lighting technique which helps in adjusting the brightness by switching on and off the optimum combination of backlight producing contrast ratio of 500,000 to 1.

Buying Crysis tonight to do a test on my 6920-6428. So far I’ve had no problem running anything with WoW running at a constant 60fps and TF2 running at around 30-40 fps.

Hi it’s very nice that u made this video, just have 3 questions regarding your WOW playing test :

    1. Are u running the game with the video drivers provided by the manufacturer ? Or u downloaded something new (guesing for Nvidia will be a detonator release or something like ati’s catalyst)

    2. Have u experienced a 40 man raid on this machine yet, how did it performed ?

    3. The overall heating issue , how do fans behave (noisy), does keyboard get too hot ? where is the main hot air exhaustion back, sides, etc ?

tyvm for your time, im looking forward to your answers to help me decide if this beauty can handle my wow addiction

I dont get it.. why is there no Crysis tests on the acer?

Why test a new laptop with a 4 year old game? makes no sense.

Even the eee pc can handle wow. Come on test some games that will push the system not wow. wow is about Ram and with 4gb it wont be a problem loading citys and raids.

with a GeForce 9500M GS, (equivalent to the 8600M GT)
    should run wow on max.

I think there is some overheating issues with acer laptop during the summer, I have already received several cases(including myself) the laptop is running slow after a few minutes of game playing, especially more intensive games. What I did was I removed the plastic piece with holes(the one that is tapped inside the backside board where the fan intake is)this is only to make sure smaller objects does not fall into the laptop and jamming the fan. My aspire’s warranty has already expired, that is why i did it. if your laptop is still under warranty, try putting the laptop on a stand for more air flow from the bottom. if it helps then it is over heating.(removing the filter thing kept the laptop alot cooler for mine)

Good Idea but I think Its more the sound because when the fps are crashing the svchost.exe is using 30-50percent of the cpu , it hosts the audio engine thats why it spikes . I tried playing without souns and everything perfect … but what am I doing wrong ? (sorry for my english)

try updating the sound card driver, if it still does not work, remove all the sound drivers, and uninstall the device from device manager.

I heard that if you take out the battery and put it back will work, something in that nature, do not know the actual reason and solution.

shae, if it does come with anything above 9500m gs, it will run all unreal 3 titles on maximum settings(except in dx10 with AA) as for crysis, medium settings, for a 9600, crysis might be able to run high
