Hi

I have managed to download Skype from thhe website and have managed to get the button onto the Connect menu through your very handy guide, yet when I click on the button, I can't get Skype to open. I can't access it through right clicking the desktop and going through Network either.

Any ideas?

Hey Michael! that's alright. I had used it only with msn. and I don't have Skype in my notebook. The web cam would some times work on msn and sometimes not but I could always use it to take photos or make videos. But now I can't even do that. Every time I click it, it says 'video capture device not found' and when I try to use it with messenger it says something like 'your web cam and speakers are already in use.....etc'

Thanks for your help =)

@Safia Asfand - Sorry about the delay. Took advantage of Christmas break to change a whole bunch of things which took me offline for a while.

Not sure about the reasons but I'm remembering something strange with Linux/Messenger/Webcam. What messenger service are you using? If I'm not mistaken, it's not compatible with Yahoo - not sure about the rest.

Also have you tried the webcam with Skype? Or an online service like Seesmic? If it works with either of these but not Messenger, the problem is with the software.

@Safia You'll have to watch the film on this post: http://www.theacerguy.com/2008/09/aspire-one-recovery.

Your Aspire One (Linux) came with a Recovery DVD. This video shows how to use it to reset everything. MAKE SURE YOU WATCH IT ALL BEFORE STARTING otherwise there is a (small) risk you'll format your other PC.

Hope this helps.

PS, thanks for your kind words. Here to help!

@Safia Asfand Restart from zero is probably your best solution. Do a system recovery and update from liveupdate. Then try your webcam.
