Acer sites down.

Some of you may have noticed that the Acer websites of your country are down.
I’ve been on the phone with some senior tech guys and have discovered that this outage was caused by a “cable problem” with one of the datacenters in Italy where Acer’s primary internet front end is currently located.
The problem is affecting all of Acer’s global websites.
Just what a “cable problem” means I’ll leave to the conspiracy theorists amongst you, however the tech support guys have promised they’re working on it and we should be back up and running soon.
In the meantime, I’m praying my servers at Dreamhost can handle all the excess traffic
.
UPDATE: 2.30pm – Seems the sites are back up now, albeit limping a little… My servers can take a break now.

Why do you think I get sooo frustrated sometimes?
Do you like the mini sites they’ve started to use lately (Gmstone 5920, Predator, Aspire One)?
They’re done on Milan by a brilliant graphic artist and colleague of mine called Davide and he’s proposed (and re-proposed) a million variations but until they decide on what they call their multi-brand strategy which basically means giving Acer/Gateway/Packard Bell a similar (related) look and feel, it won’t happen.
Having said that, this is one of the things that might get a kick start after the recent management change.
In any case, you’re not alone there Colin. I’m right there with you.
