Greetings All,

My router bit the dust and I aquired a Netgear Wireless-N300 WNR2000v2 router as a replacement.

We have a variety of devices and computers, all of which--including a Palm TX handheld and an ancient IBM T30 laptop--connected to the new router with little problem. All, that is, except the Acer Aspire One model AOA150.

The Acer has an Atheros AR5007EG wireless card with version 7.6.0.224 driver.

The Acer worked like a champ with the old "router;" an ActionTec GT-701-WG I pulled out of a dumpster a year ago and connected to the outdoor Canopy "wireless internet" modem. We've been watching Hulu wirelessly throughout the house ever since.

Things changed when I replaced the ActionTec with the Netgear router. The Acer would connect to the router and the router would show the Acer as connected. But. No internet. I couldn't ping the router from the Acer and I couldn't ping the Acer from any other computer.

Ipconfig /all showed the settings and address I expected but there was no usable connection.

After quite a few hours trying everything I could think of, including various DOS commands and the Atheros Client Utility, (which didn't help), I finally turned the router protection OFF: No password, no encryption needed to connect to the router.

Voila! The Acer connected to webpages and pings worked in both directions! It seems the Acer really doesn't like WPA.

I set the router to use WEP--open, not shared--and it works just peachy.

I know it's said WEP isn't terribly secure. I don't live IN the middle of nowhere but you can see it from here and unless there's a hacker moose wandering about with a laptop I don't feel cause for concern.

However, simply because I like to do things properly, my question to the cogniscenti is; what changes need to be effected to the Acer to allow the proper use of WPA?

So my friend let me have a computer Acer
(ASPIRE 1) due to them getting a bigger one.
I've found that lately it doesn't want to
work properly I've got really good
connection, but it seems it doesn't want to corporate with the server. Message I receive
is:

"Server not found
- If your unable to load pages, check your
computers network connection.
-If your computer or network is protected by a
firewall or proxy, make sure that it is
permitted to access the web. "

I've checked all of this even tried a few
things from this site. But I'm not really
understanding of computer talk. But I found
That Step by steps were really easy.

If anyone can help please email me,
(Parabellumscene@aol.com)

               Thank you,
                    Christel Frost

May have a fix,

In a messages above i saw that if you go to the Device Manager, and right click on the wifi card, in properties>power management, there is the option that makes the computer turn off the card to save power. UNCHECK THIS. Now, in another messages someone said that restarting didnt bring wifi back, but a full shut down, than reboot brought back wifi(temporarily). So once you turn off power management, do a full shut down followed by a reboot.

I had this problem for 3 days! and now its working fine. The worst part is that Acer's support had me reinstall drivers, restore operating system, and lastly, was going to have me send it in for "repairs" PFFT!!!

Good Luck Fellow Acer Users

Looks like I "spoke" too soon. Like many others who have submitted their woes on this web site, I had a connection via wireless for a while, but now I cannot get back on the web. My hard cable seems to work fine, but, like many of you, I wanted to be wireless with my new little machine. UGH!

Well, I followed advice here--downloaded the Atheros Utility and set it up as I was instructed in the posts of April 2009. I don't have time to stay connected tonight to see how long this "fix" will last, but, hopefully, your advice has done the trick. Thank you!

Don't buy one. The Wi-Fi is crap. It has wasted days and days of my live trying to get it to stay working consistently. One day it's up the next it won't acquire a network address. It's not my router as I have 2 other Acer laptops that work fine. Totally totally fed up with the time it wastes.

JG_Clement's comment on March 9th 2009 solved the problem for me...when you go select your wireless network from the list it asks you for the key(the default shown is 8 characters...guess that is a clue) i changed the length to 8 letters and VOILA!!! Acer aspire one connected to secured network(WPA2 with PSK. I was having an issue only with that netbook everything else(ipods...laptop and PS3)worked great.
