Hello
I bought, on eBay, a Aspire One with the 8Gb SSD and with 512Mb memory. The laptop has a faulty screen (broken) and I bought it to use as a "desktop" for internet access and multimedia. The laptop didn't have any OS installed (when I bought it). I downloaded a recover disk (with linpus) but during recovery the system hangs up. Can you please advise which the best Linux distro for this laptop? Any link for recovery disk (in case problem is with the one I downloaded)?
Many thanks
Regards

@nadia,

Are you doing clean install or an upgrade? do you have grub boot loader(the boot loader for linux)

I believe the grub bootloader sometimes interfere with vista's service pack or possibly an upgrade.

@Ana,

it sounds like driver issue, you may want to check the drivers, your windows may have acquired one off Windows update, that one may not work so well with it.

then again, check if you have installed other hardware, it might not be getting enough power to the card therefore the device is dropping from the motherboard.

Hi morris, it's me again.

The other day I was doing some things online and all of a sudden I lost my internet connection. At first the wireless network adapter detected some networks but after a few seconds it appeared as disabled in the network and sharing center. I tried to Enable it but it disappeared so I tried to reinstall the drivers but it told me the card was not present.

I opened the netbook to see if the card was a little loose or something and everything was perfect, I put all the pieces back together and when I turned on the netbook I was able to access my wireless network again.

All this was 3 days ago, a few minutes ago the same thing happened so I shutdown the netbook and took away the battery, then I waited for about 15 seconds and put the battery back and turned the netbook on, the problem was solved.

I have this aspireone since december 08 and this thing never happened with XP or Vista, I installed windows 7 2 months ago.

I'm thinking this could be a temperature related problem but it's just a guess.

Do you have an idea what could be wrong with my machine?

Thanks Morris

@Ana,

Easy, right click on the setup and click "Compatibility" and use "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)" apply, ok, and you are good to go.

Hi Morris, I just switched from vista to 7 on my aspire one AOA 150 and so far everything is great, my only doubt is the launch manager driver, the one for vista didn't work, it says there no OS present when I want to install it.

Could you help me out please??

Thx Morris
