The Aspire One IS number one.

Back in June when we first heard of the Aspire One netbook, we knew it was going to be big (metaphorically).
I always remember the smile on the face of the marketing VP when he took one of the first mock-up prototypes out of his bag. Oh yes, we all thought, “I want one!”.
And within seconds, we had the campaign payoff.
Well it looks like our first reaction to this stunning netbook was right. According to a report published a few days ago by DisplaySearch, the Aspire One has totally blown away the competition and is, quite literally, number One.

2.15 million…….. I suppose the % of the people having wifi issues should be lower then I expected…..
Michael Walsh wrote, on December 12th, 2008:
Good point.
And bear in mind that these numbers are just for the third quarter 2008, meaning Acer sold 2.15 million from July to September, or in other words within three months of launch.
Can’t wait to see if they reach the 6 million mark they predicted to sell in 2008 by the end of the year.

Yes!!, boxing day, or christmas shopping….(hint hint~~) definitly are going to boost more Aspire One sales, especially with all the new models with more selections of colors.

If I don’t have this 8920G and 6292 I should have bought one…
Aspire One is very interesting stuff, but to much computers already.
1 PC and 2 laptops.
Any reason to make me consider to buy that one? (except for X-mas gifts, LOL)
Michael Walsh wrote, on December 12th, 2008:
You guys….
I should take a photo of my office. 1 workstation, 1 PC, 3 notebooks and an Aspire One (you never know).
Reason? Reason? So you can write a review on it, publish hundreds of Expert Voice articles about it, and because it weighs about 1/1000th your 8920
Morris Lee wrote, on December 12th, 2008:
uhm….
I have
1 PC (server)
4 Laptops(one not working
All computers in the houes
4 PC
5 Laptops
Basically, swimming in computer parts….

@Michael:
1/1000th –> 4.2kg/1000 = 4.2g
Wow that’s so light!
LOL
I know you meant 1/10 of 8920G’s weight
I’m going to buy a Sony Ericsson Experia X1 ($800) today after taking Microsoft Certification Exam, so I will need to think twice to expense more money for the Aspire One (at least not for this month).
@Morris:
>>Basically, swimming in computer parts….<<
LOL
Btw Guys, what do you do with so much computers? do you use all of them everyday?
When I bought my 8920G, I thought I can use all the 3 computers, but I was wrong. I can only use the 8920G and my PC (since the old files still in the PC). I have not used the 6292 after I got this 8920G.
I can do all my office works (I’m working from home) including virtualizations, downloads, watching movies, playing some games (but not now) in only 8920G.
Please share your experiences with so much computers… so I can have idea to power up the 6292.

I have 2 5920′s one is broken :’( the working one is my “primary computer” stays stationary most of the time.(this is main mahine, and a gaming laptop too)
Aspire One comes with me all the time, except when times I need 5920′s power, I leave One behind
Desktop(AKA, my server) don’t really touch it…
the other laptop, TravelMate 2420, removed the screen, since it was crack(got this machine for free) using it as media center.
TravelMate C100, my mom is using it.
One desktop for my parents in the living room, for some chinese news, emailing, banking, VOIP phone and etc, installed Deepfreeze on it to make sure viruese is not an issue for banking etc.
One desktop in my parent’s room, barely used.
last desktop, in an office, with a sticker plotting machine hooked up, which requires Win98, so it is dedicated for that job.
all my computers have different purposes, so I use it individually according to their special attributes.

The biggest reason why Acer has done so well is that it is keeping retailers stocked! Asus has only recently stocked us again after the initial 7′ Eee PC’s . I’ve had Acer One’s since launch in constant supply. It does of course help that they are the best looking netbook out there right now too.
Acer should slap a hello kitty sticker on the pink one and watch it sell 10 million in a month. Just a thought. I sold 3 pink ones to a woman who’s daughters loved hello kitty. I suggested the stickers and she bought 3 of them 5 mins later. I’m tell you, it’s a goldmine.
Morris Lee wrote, on December 14th, 2008:
@Peter, HHAHAHA, hello kitties…… ahhaha, well, I think pink it is great the way it is, lots of my friends (boys) like the pink too, I don’t necessary think it will be practical in this case then.
I like the pink too, but the Sapphire one I have is more low profile, so when you take it out, not as many people will notice it, less chance it gets stolen.
well, actually, another thought, not very many people would like pink, so they might not steal a pink one either. but you never know~~~ lol

I have the aspire one and the aspire 7730
I have to give Acer the heads up on nice to
use and nice to look at systems.
I have the simple a101 first fish of the aspire one
When I got it
512 ram, ssd (8gig) linux
Now
1 gig od ram still ssd with xp pro nlite/usb
installer.
I use the 7730 as a desktop replacement when I want to be lazy but with power and not needing
XP but when I donìt need as much power I will use the desktop that’s still a dual core 1.6 2 gig of ram but the 7730 is dual core 2 duo 2 gig 4 gig ram so.
When I am out @ college or client I will take the acer one as its does all my needs.
With a 800 mhz x2 pro or HT not sure how the atom is set up but its one of the 2 lol.
I have the blue one.

Actually when we were toying around with the first marketing plan for the Aspire One, Hello Kitty was just one of the possibilities we tabled. How does a Swarovski Crystal version sound…??
Naturally they got canned.
Morris Lee wrote, on December 14th, 2008:
@Rexzooly,
Intel Atom uses HT, Hyper-Threading, uses the CPU’s power more effectively, as you know, it was incorporated in the Pentium 4 Prescott Series. and you might wanna switch that SSD to a HDD, I switched to HDD, everything runs like beauty. (Windows simply runs horrible on SSD ATM) my vista boots in about 45 seconds vs linpus 20 seconds ish(and still gotta wait for internet to connect)
@Michael,
Swarovski Crystal version ….. wouldn’t it be a lot more expansive? But i would love a laptop with super strong clear casing XD

That’s the point. Imagine a $300 PC with $500 worth of options… Might not have sold many but imagine what Engadget would have made of it
Morris Lee wrote, on December 15th, 2008:
I wouldn’t suppose making the entire laptop out of the Crystal, but what I would suggest, since the idea of making laptop shiny for lid these days, why not make just the top shiny part of the aspire one crystal? thus endurance is there, not sacrificing too much of the “light weight” that acer has worked on Aspire One.
Title it:
Crystal One
Damn, I think that is a great idea… I should have copyright it…

i commented a while back about how id buy one for my mom, well i did last month and i was disappointed in limpus. just recently i reformatted and installed eeebuntu netbook remix on it and i must say WOW. the aspire one is a great piece of hardware but the os is the major drawback, i recommend ubuntu or even better is eeebuntu.

Hey Colin,
Good to see you back and happy to hear that you’re now a member of the netbook club.
Fancy doing a write up on how you did this install so we can put it up on the Expert Voices section and share it with others in your situation?
Let me know.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
