Hello to all!
Passed 6 days already, but I still like to say Merry Christmas (I am so late on this) and HAPPY NEW YEAR. I know that there are some significant increases in the numbers of Aspire One users (don’t you just love birthdays and Christmases?), so I’d like to extend an official welcome message to everyone especially the new Aspire One owners! Welcome everyone!
You got problems? We are here to help! There are currently quite a few experienced supporters here to help you out (including me!) so do not hesitate to ask questions, I do too!
Some of you may have noticed the change in the site, DON’T worry, it is still the same people (plus more) behind the scene(screen) working here, answering the questions.
A couple of big bugs known to the Aspire One have been addressed to Acer, there seems to be a potential fix for the Wireless connectivity on the Linpus Operating System, it has been addressed here Many thanks to WS and looking forward to hearing back from Jose.
As for the Live-Update (might be able to fix Messenger problem) this has been addressed here, which has been confirmed to resolve the issue for some users.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you guys that the forum is now functional; here you can feel free to explain your problem and or questions more profoundly! (**note** that Michael is still discussing a better way to organize the forum better)

I’d like to add that as this is a community site, it’s only fair that I ask your input/feedback on the way it’s shaping out.
So if you have any suggestions regarding the Forum, or an idea you think the Acer community would benefit from don’t be shy – I’m anxious to hear from you!

@John Trevillion,
There is a place you can visit for most updated driver, http://www.laptopvideo2go.com BUT first, download driver sweeper, use that to remove all the old drivers, then download the driver from laptopvideo2go apply DOX’s inf.

I have an Aspire One running Win XP. I made bootable USB and booted into Linux, and with GPartEd I can see the Acer partition and the PQSERVICE recovery partition. They both have “unused” space in the partitions. Can I increase the usable space by resizing? Why was it set up with unused space? Also… can I just copy the PQSERVICE partition to backup and then delete it and use that extra space in my main partition? If I ever need it, I could put it back, right? Enquiring minds wanna know!

@Dave Goodman,
I am assuming you could, but then again, it might be used for temporary files when you are doing the recovery. Unless you are wishing that you will never use the eRecovery, then you can try changing it.
and if you ever need to use it again, you need to rebuild the MBR, the installation files are in the PQSERVICE somewhere, when you install it, you need all the partition orders exactly the same as now

I have just bought an Acer Aspire One running XP. Do I need to make back up recovery cd’s? If so, where do I go to get started – no specific help in the Acer eRecovery. I was told I needed to buy an external DVD drive so I could burn the CD’s… but maybe this isn’t necessary and I could return it..
Morris Lee wrote, on January 17th, 2009:
@Prue,
You don’t need to create recovery disks, you can use the eRecovery whenever something goes wrong or if you just want to go back to factory defaults.
to use eRecovery, Press Alt+F10 on startup(where you see the acer logo)

Thanks for the help. I would have felt happier to have back up CD’s – just in case … any way of doing this?

@Prue,
just hang on, just got hands on with an Aspire One, I will see where to find the option, it is doing a recovery right this moment

@Prue,
I just looked through, there does not seem to have such option to make backup disks, you can always make one from a 3rd party utility. great one I would recommend is Aronis

@Christine,
Are you using Windows or Linpus?
Christine wrote, on January 22nd, 2009:

Morris Lee wrote, on January 22nd, 2009:
@Christine,
if you have the harddrive edition, I might recommend you installing XP for now, when I have time, i will test out linpus for you guys, see if I can find a solution.
