Just found this on YouTube and had to post it.
PhoneArena has posted an amazingly in-depth review of the dual sim card Tempo DX900 smartphone from Acer.
As the side info says, the Tempo DX900 is the first and currently, the only Windows Mobile dual-sim phone.
This is a nice first attempt, but I’ve seen what’s coming…

Can you give a hint as to what will come? Faster CPU and more RAM is definitely needed.. improved dual sim management.. smaller size.. longer lasting battery.. lose the outdated PDA look.. maps for the GPS..
from another maker and will not upgrade for 2 years minimum at which point I hope so many others are available – maybe even Nokia will wake up to the Dual side of life
And when will it come?
My money and Acer getting 1 more costumer depends on it
If a better version doesn’t come soon I’ll go with a “stupidphone”

Sorry Q, but in the words of the smartphone marketing manager, I “can’t open the kimono”.
The truth is that dual SIM is a bit of a niche market, so you’ll probably find that products here have a longer lifecycle. Of course unexpected demand does play a significant part in deciding whether a product lives or dies but if you ask me, Acer won’t be spending too much time introducing variations on this theme.
Your comments are spot on and I have it on good authority that most if not all of them will be reflected in the new line up due later on this year.
He wouldn’t give me any more than that.

Thanks for the fast answer. I guess I’ll go with a “stupidphone” for now – I wouldn’t probably buy the new version as soon as it was out anyway since it is usually a little more expensive – but maybe I’ll upgrade next year..
It is a little of a niche market, but that all depends on how it is marketed. For instance Samsung launched their D880 for about ?400€? which is completely ridiculous – it was more expensive than buying 2 mobiles with the same specs as that one (oh, and the size of it was gigantic – almost 2 cm depth).
An extra 50€ for making a normal phone a dual sim (hw and sw) should be enough, more than that seems too much – we can buy complete phones for much less than that nowadays.
Again, thanks for the fast feedback.
PS: Lastly, the smartphone home page should be improved to include technical details of the phones.

Hi,
Anymore news on these improvements you mentioned back in April? I should look out for a follow up of the DX900?
I’m interested in Dual Sim smart phones.
So far only Acer DX900 or general mobile DSTL1 come close to what I need. So I’m wondering if it pays of to wait a bit longer?
Thanks for any replies

@fristi,
Pretty much all of what has already leaked its way out onto the web is what’s coming plus another much more interesting variation coming shortly but no dual SIMm I’m afraid, at least for 2H 2009.
I’m not involved in product development at all but obviously the numbers didn’t add up in dual SIM’s favor and the suits pulled the plug.

Thank you for your reply
That is too bad. With a bit more RAM and a bit faster Processor, this phone would be perfect.
I already read up allot on these things. And by installing different ROMS you can overcome most small problems. But the speed doesn’t improve that much.
400 euros (I’m european) is allot of money for me and I wouldn’t want to buy the less perfect phone just to see a few months later a perfect version for only a bit more money.
I don’t mind spending a bit more for the perfect phone. Carrying 2 phones is just becoming a real pain. Always one dead battery or something meh.
I wonder why ACER didn’t think of adding more RAM in this version. The more perfect the phone, the more customers.
I will wait for the start of 2010 to see if ACER decides to update the dual sim model.
