Aspire 5920G Launch Manager Patch
- posted by Morris Lee on May 29th, 2009

Hello to all 5920G users, here is a patch for the ugly launch manager for your keys on your laptop, it may work with other models of the acer (possibly even some Gateway, eMachine or Packard Bell, because I have seen Launch Manager operating on the factory machines)
**Update, v12.1(Strictly for LMv3.0) is out, grab it from one of the following mirrors**
Had little oops, missed a cuple files in the installer, for those who is getting 5920BT.exe missing, V12.1 should fix it!
Not sure if it is worth mentioning, the Bluetooth is now using registry, you will need to run regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Morrisoft\Bluetooth\
and change the “BTID”’s entry(found on the right side) with your device ID, if you don’t have this field to change with, press your bluetooth button AFTER you installed the patch, which will add it for you.
After 4 hours of hard work right after Chris Z’s report on Launch Manager 3.0 for Win 7, I worked as hard as I could to push the new patcher out for everyone! Interesting enough, Acer changed a lot of things in this version…
For now(possibly forever), I will not be releasing patches for v2.0 Launch Manager, sorry for the inconvenience
Download links for Launch Manager:
Launch Manager V2.0.0.119 – Use v11.0 patch or prior.
Launch Manager V3.0.04 – Use patch v12.0.
Enjoy!
*This patch is not UAC friendly, please disable UAC prior to installing the patch.*
Machine Compatibility:
For Launch Manager v2.0 with patch v11.0
Reported working machines:
Acer Aspire 4530 (with V12.0, cannot find 5920BT.exe problem, it should be fixed with V12.1)
Acer Aspire 5920G (well, of course~~, non “G” version should work too)
Acer Aspire 6930 (reported to “works like a charm!” when installed with launch manager for 5920)
Acer Aspire 8920 (sounds like it needed tweaking to get it working, but give it a shot!)
Acer Aspire 8930 (install LM from 5920, then use my patch)
List of not working machines:
Acer Aspire 5930 (reported partially works, new test results with v11 is required!)
Acer Aspire 6920 (it should work fine with it now, need tester on this one too)
For Launch Manager v3.0 with patch v12.0
Reported working machines:
Acer Aspire 5920G
List of not working machines:
none reported

Noticed the pretty icon and the pretty background comparing to this old one (I had to manually make the Arcade Button image which replaces the old internet button image)
Some highlight features:
**BEST FEATURES**
-Power Plan Toggling via e button pressed (Similar to Stealth Mode in Alienware)
-The Arcade button can now be reprogrammed
-Bluetooth Key can now be programmed to enable/disable the device you desired(just replace the device id in the following files: C:\BT\enable\BT.cmd and C:\BT\disable\BT.cmd)
Other features:
-Simple installation
-Pretty icon that fits Vista and 7
-Compatible with XP/Vista/7 both 32 and 64-bit
-Fixed the Acer MediaTouch compatibility with WinAMP (and many other famous media players)
-Enable user’s On Screen Display preference
Note: Tested on Windows 7 and Windows XP, software is compatible with both 32 and 64 bit. Any test results or feedback is welcomed!
Patching is simple, download and run the latest exe from here box.net or here mediafire.com it will automatically detect 32 bit or 64 bit, it also closes the program before the installation for you, I have gone through many trouble to finalize the installer to perfection!
Here is the change log, it is also embedded in the installer and saves a copy in the program folder

Please tell me this thing is compatible with the 6920G’s Launch Manager too.
I’d love to reprogram my Arcade key to open Media Center like it did before I put Arcade Deluxe back on my system.

@TehSuigi
you can try it out, if it doesn’t work, just uninstall the Launch manager, and reinstall it on next reboot.

I tried your modified patch. I still have one problem. Everything works fine until I don’t want to turn up or down volume with the wheel. That stops working right after I will install the Launch Manager from Acer site and apply your patch. Do you have any suggestion. Of course I am using Windows 7, Acer Empowering Framework is installed. Please give me an advice how I can get this working. Thanx in advance.

@Lubo,
Thank you for your comment, I don’t have 32bit OS right now, I wasn’t able to test it out, the link now leads to a fixed one, it should work now! I am using the installer from ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5920/vista/64bit/LM_v2.0.05.zip
if you have not already realize, the volume still works, I disabled the OSD on purpose, since adjusting Volume using the volume wheel with OSD will out focus the game(especially in DX10 games)
I just go by the volume icon as to how loud it is on right now.

Thanks Morris for reply but… doesn’t work. I don’t care about the OSD but the volume is not working. I used the link ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5920/vista/Drivers/LaunchManager_Dritek_v2.0.10.zip, installed, rebooted, then installed ur patch, still no work. When the LM is uninstalled, volume works – but no OSD with anything but none of the side buttons work. I like that idea of “e” having as the power plan changer… any suggestion pls?

@Lubo,
I suggest removing launch manager, go into program files and remove the entire folder.
after that, run regedit, under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ delete Quanta entry
and as well as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Quanta (if you are running 32bit)
in 64 bit
delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Quanta
THEN Reboot
then install the version I have link you
reboot
Then use my patch
are you on 32 or 64 bit?

Hey Morris, thank you for your effort but… doesn’t work. I am using Win 7 RC 32bit. I deleted the things from the registry and from Program Files. Then I installed LMv2.0.10 and rebooted. After that I launched ur patch – volume worked but LM did not work (the “e” button, internet button etc.). So I rebooted once again and LM worked but without volume wheel… So, I uninstalled LM and volume works. None of the side buttons on my laptop but volume
. If you have any other suggestion, I’ll appreciate it. Anyways, thanks for advises

Hi Morris,
hmm, looks like it doesnt work. I tried downloading “Morris’ Launch Manager V10.0 Beta x86+64-bit.exe” but its infected with some sort of spyware. So i used regular version (second from above).
First, it wont install if i change path. (ok thats not really a problem as long as i have my original files from lunch manager in c:program files)
Second, after instaling over original lm, QtZgAcer.EXE wont start. i can start LManager.exe but it doesnt work as it should,and then it stops working.

After trying many times i figured whats my problem. Im using acer 6935g and original lunch manager that can be found on acers site is v2.0.0.2 not v2.0.10 like in your case. I tried downloading v2.0.10 and installing your patch. Patch works fine but LM v2.0.10 has some issues on my laptop like inverse and corrupt volume control. Also media controls didnt work in winamp after patching.
Is it possible that you upgrade your patch to work on LM v2.0.0.2???
you can download it from here:

off top of my head, I can’t tell you exactly, but you need to uninstall the launch manager, and reinstall it again, and you have to install my patch manually, and when you use my registry settings, you delete the ones that replaces the P1(e) button.

I have not see reports if it works for 5930 yet(at lease not with V11.0), I guess it does not, this specially made for 5920G only, as I only have 5920G to work with, however, you can compare the settings in the MMKEYBD.CFG file and the registry to see how I have modded it. The patch has been confirmed to work for more than just 5920 though.

I just uploaded it to box.net aswell, link is up on the top too.

well, you could change the rate in the registry, but it won’t fix your problem where the volume control not in sync.
it can be edited in here
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Quanta\QtZgAcer\Settings] for 32 bit
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Quanta\QtZgAcer\Settings] for 64 bit
“Volume Level” is what you want to change, you have to play with it to get it to what you want, default increment is 6, but the actual value in the registry is different

One thing though. All of the buttons on the right side of the machine worked without the Launch Manager installed at all, just without the green OSD. The easiest way I can think of is to manually install your launch manager to C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) if you on on 64bit.
I am using WinRAR to build the installer, can’t have too complex directory setup like you mentioned, I have no intention using InstallShield or anything close to those, as they are troublesome at times.

find the following:
Key 22 = 1,E0,43,E0,C3,F514,Wireless LAN No Exist
Key 23 = 1,E0,55,E0,D5,F510,Wireless LAN Enabled
Key 24 = 1,E0,56,E0,D6,F511,Wireless LAN Disabled
and remove the E0 so they look like this
Key 22 = 1,,43,E0,C3,F514,Wireless LAN No Exist
Key 23 = 1,,55,E0,D5,F510,Wireless LAN Enabled
Key 24 = 1,,56,E0,D6,F511,Wireless LAN Disabled
restart launch manager and see if it works.

Hi Morris,
I just tried out your modified launch manager on my Acer 6920G laptop. The pad was useless for playing winamp and now with the new release on windows 7, it does a crappy job on my volume bar (it does not increment correctly).
So with some googling I came across your launcher. I’m using latest build of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Here’s how it went:
I removed my previous version of launch manager and installed the one linked on the page Launch Manager V3.0.04, and after the installation was finished I installed your patch Morris’ Launch Manager V12.2 x86+64-bit.
After initial starting of the installer, it gave me this error:
http://img704.imageshack.us/i/errorok.jpg/
I thought ok, maybe it still installed and went to the install directory of Launch manager (C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager). There I found another folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager)
went inside and copied all of your files to the Launch manager original location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager) and ran install.bat.
The installation went fine (http://img17.imageshack.us/i/donej.jpg/) so i restarted the computer.
Your launch manager loaded with the correct icon and user interface, however the volume bar still doesn’t increment in the right way (it goes up only by 1 bar), all of the other buttons seem to work, except the button for changing video output, which is a bit confused. After selecting laptop screen it goes on monitor and by subversa, also it doesn’t want to leave the screen after it has been activated:
http://img17.imageshack.us/i/outputchange.jpg/
The winamp controls with the touchpad seem to work, but the buttons for forward a track and backward a track still skip the entire album and go for the first / last track in the playlist. The play / pause does however work now (before it was messed up bad – unsuable).
Your customized controls in the GUI for changing arcade button to launch some other application do not work aswell, it just launches windows media center.
That’s pretty much it, I hope you can help me out in polishing these few bugs left, so I can enjoy the launch pad in its full functionality.
Let me just mention that without the launch manager, all the controls work except the arcade button and of course, the volume isn’t synced with the bars on the pad (goes up only by 1 bar too). The forward a track and backward a track work in winamp.
Thanks again, and keep up the good work,
Dev

Try installing with just C:\ and see if it will work properly.
For the video switching, I am not sure why, it is doing it on the 5920 itself too, I am still looking for solutions, in the mean time, use WinKey + P (the WinKey is the key thats with a Windows logo) This is a build in monitor switching in Windows 7
Hope you had a nice Christmas and Happy New Year!

With LM_Dritek_3.0.04_W7×64W7×86_A when I press Wlan button, appears on the screen “Wireless LAN Disabled”, when I press again appears “Wireless LAN Disabled” and again,again…
After removing E0 from MMKEYBD.CFG, changed only one thing – nothing appears when I press the button. Wlan isnt working. I think there is one maybe more files missing. In old WinXP x64 LM is wbutton.exe file, maybe it is for Wlan button… so I am in dead end…

I have installed the acer Launch manager, and although this has allowed me alter the \e\ buttons etc it has not re-enabled the multi-media buttons.
I was looking at this patch as a possible help? But I’m also confused, I have v2.0.1.119 of Lm and though the article suggests it will work on my machine it says I require v3.0…
Look forward to hearing from you

@Neal,
Try removing the current launch manager, install V3.0 I linked above, you should be able to change the e button from there.
you could use my patch, use 12.2 in the link, it is UAC compatible now.
the multi media buttons, play pause, etc, you need to install the Synaptics touchpad driver from acer’s driver site, specifically for 5920G

Hi Morris,
I am on WIN 7 professional x64 on an Acer 5920G.
I installed Launch Manager Launch Manager V3.0.04 and your patch 12.2.
Everything seem to work except that the volume controls seem off.
Even if I reduce it to minimum there is still some audio audible.
Anything I might have done wrong or need to fix?
Thank you for your patch and help.
Morris Lee wrote, on January 12th, 2010:
@Threshold,
the reason is that you are not using a correct Realtek HD audio driver, select 5920G and Windows Professional x64 should be the first one Audio Realtek. install and reboot the machine when it prompts you, then problem should be fixed!

Hi again Morris,
Since Acer drivers don’t get updated very often (especially for an old model like mine) I generally get them directly from the producers so I have installed Realtek HDA 6.1.7600.16385 at the moment.
Does your utility works only with the drivers released by Acer?
If so does it means we cannot upgrade audio drivers unless Acer does?
Thank you
Morris Lee wrote, on January 12th, 2010:
@Threshold,
They are generally not THAT old, just use the ones from acer. it is NOT the limitation of the utility, it is the limitation by the driver’s configuration. even if you use windows and put it on the 0 volume, you still hear something, you need acer drivers to fix that problem.

Hi Morris,
Thanks again for the help.
I let Seven check for an audio driver update and it actually installed an earlier version(most probably the Acer one you are recommending) and now all seem to work fine thank you.
I have to say that 3rd party drivers’ update in Seven works a lot better than in previous MS os where in fact it did not work at all pretty much always.

yes i have a small problem.does this work acer 4930g?
coz my hotkeys dont work at all. thanks for the mod btw.=]
Morris Lee wrote, on January 18th, 2010:
@Aaron,
only way to find out is to try it, uninstall your current launch manager, and install the version I have addressed here.
You will need to install Synaptics Touchpad driver for the media keys to work, you will have to get the version from acer for your model.

Morris Lee wrote, on January 19th, 2010:
@Aaron,
it is not avaliable with the version 3 for the 5920G yet, I think I know what you are referring to though, the nice pretty pictures you mean right?

@morris,
hey just installed win7. installed all the drivers i think are needed, except for the synaptics driver in the acer website which wouldn’t install properly.
any thoughts on this? my media buttons doesn’t work
adm15 wrote, on January 24th, 2010:
I was able to make the media buttons work by installing a driver specified for another laptop (5734 i think). So that’s working fine now.
I tried your LM patch, and it works fine in windows 7 32 but … I still can’t configure stickman (acer arcade button). For me, pressing stickman opens up media center. Pressing the globe opens what i configured for stickman.
and how can i make the media buttons work for vlc?
thanks. Windows 7 installed just fine in my 5920g
Morris Lee wrote, on January 25th, 2010:
@adm15,
I have always just used the one for vista, it should install just fine, if not, install with Vista compatibility.
Not sure why you can’t change the stick man’s settings, sounds like your launch manager is not patched properly.

5920BT.exe crashes before it can configure my usb bt dongle, i reverted back to v11 which works fine. im using vista 32bit on a 5920
Morris Lee wrote, on February 12th, 2010:
@colin,
Humm… I am going to phase out the 5920BT.exe with BT.exe, it will work with all bluetooth dongles now.
That is for next release, stay tuned

I just found this site. And it is exactly what I was looking for, but I don’t see my model listed or the “button” I would like to reconfigure.
I have the 5810TZ. Three buttons above keyboard (touch sensitive) are wireless (on/off), start backup program, power saver modes. Since I upgraded this laptop from Vista to W7 32bit, I have installed all the current drivers from the Acer site, including the LM.
I tried your most recent patch, but it did not work. I want to reconfigure the backup button since it really is useless to me now.
I’d like to make that either sleep or open a exe file (i.e. browser, etc.)
Can you help? Any ideas what I should try?
Thanks,
BarryNYC
p.s. I have tried the following already…
installed Acer’s LM, then your patch, reboot = doesn’t work
I removed Acer’s LM, deleted the folder, reinstalled the LM and your patch, rebooted
= no go.

@BarryNYC,
This is for 5920G originally, it “might” work with other models, and I have only modified the arcade button on the 5920G therefore, that is the only one should be “different” than before.
You can look into the registry,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Compal\LManager\Settings\Buttons
the “Command” is what you want to run and change the “Command Type” to value of “1″, restart the launch manager, you should be able to launch whatever you linked to.

im not sure if you are aware of this morris but there is a modded synaptics driver that in combination with your modded launch manager really enhances the 5920 hardware

@colin,
Yes, I am aware of that, I have been using it all along actually, I even modded slightly, since he did the original work, I am not sure if I can distribute this copy with it, I will probably release just another patcher for it! Which also fixes the ChiralMotion with Firefox.

is there a way to make the red record light permanently lit up rather than having to turn it on every time the pc boots?
Morris Lee wrote, on February 16th, 2010:
@colin,
Yes, there are 2 ways I found, either use Launch manager 3.0, or have the Synaptics SynTPEnh.exe launch AFTER launch manager has full initialized.

that worked perfectly, i never even thought about setting up the order of how programs start. i found a program called startup delayer and now my pc seems to startup faster and programs dont sometimes crash on startup anymore and the light is always on. your pretty on top of stuff morris
Morris Lee wrote, on February 19th, 2010:
@colin,
good for you! I actually did not know about startup delayer, I just used task scheduler from windows and have it delay 30 seconds on startup.

btw is it possible to install the sound framework for empowering technology ? i mean it didnt come with mine… also i suposse my lap is a latin version came with no BT (i guess i dont want to dissasemble) but i cant even find the proper factory bios it came with (1.11 while the highest i can get is Europe 1.10)
Morris Lee wrote, on February 28th, 2010:
@VenomGhost,
You don’t really want to use the sound framework or known as eAudio, just use the realtek control panel. you can find it by searching “Acer HD” in the start menu.
Don’t upgrade the BIOS unless you have a problem with your laptop or you want to upgrade to Windows 7 and it suggested you to do so!

Hey just wondering if there is going to be an update any time soon?
Would be good if could change the volume into images
None the less very nice work though
Morris Lee wrote, on March 6th, 2010:
@James,
I don’t think it can be converted into “images” they are more like a text displayed on the screen. I don’t use the OSD at all actually, that is why I enabled the panel to allow user to disable the OSD.
For volume, I just look at the bottom right corner to see roughly the loudness, as if I use OSD, it will disturb fullscreen movies or games.
I am still working on a work around for the monitor output panel issue in V3.0 launch manager, before I find a good solution, I won’t be update it anytime soon, as it is pretty final, UAC compatible in v12.2 actually(it is more of a experimental thing so I never updated the page)
another thing, I really don’t want to get to V13, HAHAH, that is one small factor that it is still 12.x ATM
