That title wasn’t meant to scare you – but prepare you.
Acer have put together a specific page to deal with Acer owners wishing to upgrade to the latest Operating System from Microsoft. You can find it here:
If you click on the link or picture above you’ll see that the page is divided into three, easy-to-follow steps:
1. Check to see if your PC is compatible with Windows 7.
2. Follow the Instructions for Upgrading Your Acer PC to Windows 7.
3. After You’ve Completed Your Upgrade, You’ll Need to Update Your Drivers.
There’s also a link to Microsoft’s Upgrade Advisor which “scans your PC for potential issues with your hardware, devices, and installed programs, and recommends what to do before you upgrade”.
Well worth checking out if you’re about to take the plunge.

Checked the Acer support website for Acer Aspire 4730z laptop Drivers and they’re STILL not there. How am I supposed to update my dirvers once I get Windows 7 ? Why do they have to make this difficult? And yes I have checked to see if this model is compatible with Win7. Basically I’ll be needing the Acer Crystal Eye Webcam & Cyberlink Power Director drivers. Though the Webcam is more of a priority. I’m all set to purchase my copy of Win7 but will keep putting it off unless I can locate a driver pack for my 4730z

@Daemon – Don’t do it (the upgrade). I haven’t got time to go into this right now but I’ve just discovered there’s a difference between “Compatible” and “Certified” that I was unaware of.
It seems that in the real world “Win7 compatible” means “partially compatible” whereas “Win7 certified” means “100% compatible”. If you want more info, call Microsoft as they’re behind this terminology b**ls up.
It looks like manufacturers of peripheral components (aka your crystal eye) webcam may or may not update their drivers for earlier machines. Unless you can find the EXACT model of your webcam and can find an alternative way of downloading it there’s precious little hope.
I’m not entirely thrilled over this situation but I’ve been told it was like this when XP became Vista and now Win7 has continued the tradition.
I’ll write more later on.

In fact, most all of the Vista drivers will work for 7, if it doesn’t pick up everything already.
Morris Lee wrote, on October 29th, 2009:
Yes, in fact, it was the same as for vista before it. You used to see “Vista Capable” and “Vista Ready”(something along those lines)
As long as it is Vista Ready, it should run 7 beautifully though, just the matter of drivers.

It is the only matter of using Vista driver for most of your devices and like nvidia or Ati driver from their official site, then you are set!

Did you change the “Maximum Memory” settins in msconfig’s advanced settings? if so, uncheck that option, it took away 1GB of my 4 GB when I did that.

Don’t wait for Acer to make new drivers, they’re as lazy as a ‘buro’ when it comes to update stuff. Just download the needed drivers from the manufacturers websites directly, way more effective & up-to-date.
To be honoust, you hardly need any drivers from acers website once 7 is installed. The only thing you really really have to do is get Intel Turbo Memory driver from Intel’s website (cause no driver installs with 7) and a Video Card driver. IF you really want all the acer buttons to work install Synaptics and Launch Manager, that’s it.
I installed Win7 and all was working right away. But hey, I must be lucky..

Yes I did. I have searched the web for a fix( I am not the only one with this problem not only Acer either) beginning to think its windows bug. I might try fresh installation in the next few days and see if that solves it (for some people it has apparently)

when you use 64 bit os, any 32 bit software will work, some drivers too, they should work just fine like 32 bit os does. As for older 16 bit softwares, you won’t be able to run them in the 64 bit os, as they took out the compatibility of 16 bit since they only go back as far as 32 bit.

Argh… Their website is useless to me – I’ve searched and can’t find any drivers or info on this, just keeps directing me back to the Microsoft Win7 upgrade pages. Frustrating!
Mike wrote, on January 2nd, 2010:
@Micah -
I’m having the same problem, and yes, it is terribly frustrating. I’ve narrowed it down – at least on my 4810TZ – to an issue with the optical drive’s Eject button.
Instead of using that button, use the software “Eject” option that comes up when you right-click on the optical drive. That seems to be working for me right now.
If the computer seems to lose the optical drive, reboot it and then give the soft-eject a try. Don’t hit the physical button at all; once you do, you have to reboot for the system to see the optical drive again.
I still don’t have it fixed, even after completing the update, but the work-around seems to be a workable, if not ideal, solution at this point.
I agree that Acer’s support for this is useless. A bad customer experience certainly isn’t a good way to build any sort of future customer base!
I hope this saves you a few hours of swearing and table-pounding.

For those of you it helps it is with great pleasure (and weary, bloodshot eyes) that I provide you with full details of a
!!100% WORKING 6920G WINDOWS 7 CINEDASH VOLUME-INCREMENT SYNC FIX!!
It has been a long journey!
To give credit where it is due, I found the solution on this page: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=438633 .
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Uninstall any previous version of Launch Manager. Download again, as per the link provided by Ben: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_6920G/vista/Drivers/LaunchManager_Dritek_Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32x64_XPx32x64.zip
2. Unzip. Explore the new folder, right-click Setup.exe, select Compatibility, choose Windows Vista Service Pack 2, hit OK.
3. Run Setup.exe and install. But don’t reboot yet!
4. Now locate and explore the freshly installed folder in programs – (probably in C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager)
5. Find LManager.exe and right click. Just like step 2 select Compatibility, choose Vista SP2, hit OK.
6. Reboot and enjoy properly synced volume, and fully functioning buttons. Weep with gratitude.
(7. If Launch Manager doesn’t start automatically when you next boot up, use Ben’s tip above and add a LManager.exe shortcut to your startup folder)
I hope this works for you guys. If so, please spread the word. I don’t think many people know about it yet.

I use Driveragent.com to search for drivers. It is a fee based service and, although not 100% accurate, does find drivers that Acer is too delinquent to post on their support site. In my experience if the driver is incorrect, the driver will not install.
Also – this maybe a mistake that just I make – when you select your model # on the driver download portion of the Acer (US version) website, remember to select your Windows software version from the drop-down box just below the model selection boxes. There is a Win 7 compatible LaunchManager that shows up under the application tab.

Two things, I’m concerned about.
(1)do you think a BIOS update will be neccessary?

BIOS update should not be required, as windows 7 and vista are almost the same, except tweaked. so all hardware should work just fine.
Acer hidden partition like the recovery might still work if you do clean install, if you have Acer instant on, that might not work if you do a clean install

Went ahead and took the plunge, did a nice CLEAN install of Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) on my Acer Aspire 4730z. Went good, everything worked out allright. the only problem I’m experiencing at the moment is the Launch manager, so going to give that a compatiblity treatment and see if that fixes it.
Additionally it must also be noted that earlier with Vista Home Premium and the Acer Bundle my Windows Experience Index was at 3.1 and since has moved up to 3.3 which IMHO is significant; considering the only things from acer besides drivers for the hardware is the bison “CrystalEye” webcam and the Launch Manager.
Running two external 22″ Acer widescreen monitors on the wings when I’m at home; one connected directly to vga and the other through an ArkView Vga to Usb for less graphics extensive tasks. Three screens total w00t! All I need now is a sweet HDTV to mount directly above them heh. The ArkView box will be nice later on too since it handles vga/dvi/hdmi so it does leave possiblities.

@Dallas,
Sounds to me like you might have missed some steps. The first thing you need to do is grab a Thumbdrive and get yourself onto the Acer website and go to the Acer Service & Support section, then to Driver downloads where you can then click on Notebooks – and go to your product model, once there grab ALL the drivers, applications, patches, doccuments, and just incase any BIOS files for your model. It is likely you won’t need to do a BIOS flash its just good practice to have them on hand incase of. Downloading drivers one at a time is a drag I know, since Acer doesn’t give people the options to “download them all” in one nifty package.
Your next order of business is to run over to, SevenForums and read through this page a few times and maybe have the page up on another pc if possible or printouts to follow while you’re doing the actual install. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html?ltr=C This helped me a LOT during my makeover, and my model is older than yours.
After this, pop in your Win7 upgrade media, shut down your laptop and go right to your BIOS (F2) during system boot, right before windows loads and set boot order to the dvd/cd drive. Following this do your Win7 *Clean* (Custom) install; skip putting in your product key until after you’re sure everythings working, you have 30 days to do that so no worries there.
Pay attention to the directions on SevenForums step 7 & 8. Once you get past this and your install is complete and Win7 finally gives you the desktop, then you can start extracting your drivers from your thumbdrive and run the setups for each one. The order you run the setups in doesn’t really matter but I’d personally put priority on the Chipset and Graphics drivers first and finish off with the webcam, cinedash, and launch manager.
Once you’re done all this tedious work, your Win7 ought to be working allright, let it fully update via windows update before you do any tweaking or setting up your desktop your way. Maybe run Win 7 for a day or two to ensure everything is working once you’re satisfied you can then go ahead and Activate it with your product key and make it permanent.
Wishing you the best in your endevour.

Guys, I have a 3810T timeline, I’ve recently installed the win7 enterprise 64bit, it works much better, but….
For some reason, when I try to resume from sleep mode by pressing the power button on the top left side, it just wouldn’t power it back, for all I know there just isn’t any other way to wake it up. I’ve installed the launch manager, and all the other acer specific buttons are responding, other than this power button, I will really appreciate any help with this annoying problem.

Fairly successful install of Win7 Pro 64bit on my Acer Aspire 5920g.
Have everything functioning except the media control buttons on the rightside keyboard.
Tried some of the suggestions to no avail.
Looks much better, but honestly haven’t seen a performance difference. except that some apps take longer to open.

Hello there, just wandered by. I have a Provo 4g website. Can’t believe the amount of information out there. Not what I was looking for, but nice site. Have a great day.
