@Chris,

Would you tell me that if you see anything, anything at all on the screen?

here are a few tips you can try:

Hook it up to an external monitor/screen or some sort of display device, start with the "VGA" port, then try the HDMI if it does not help. If you do see display on the monitor plugged in, then it might just be loose connection to the LCD panel internally, should be a fairly simple fix by popping open the panel just above the keyboard to get to the connection.

Check if the windows starts up properly by listening to the sound, you can make sure the volume is up by pressing Fn + Up Arrow (holding down Fn key and press up arrow about 16 times should push it to max volume AFTER WINDOWS HAS BOOTED), let the computer boot the first time, wait until you think it has enough time to boot (give it 10 minutes to be sure) and then do the Fn + Up Arrow volume up, once done, reboot the computer to see if you hear the windows login sound this time.

My duughter has had her laptop for about a year, it has overheated since the first month we bought it, sent in to Acer during warranty period, they said they did something, not sure what, reset all the settings back to factory really screwed up all our custom settings, they reloaded OS and Reset CPU, nothing more, still overheats.

My battery will not charge completely. Acer 5534. It stays at 86%. I have turned it off for days and let it charge but it will not charge more than 86%. When I use it wireless, the battery only last about an hour not 2.5 hours. Is this the battery or the charger?

I was looking for help to ask a couple of questions on this new 5534 I just bought. Is it worth owning? I go on facebook a lot to play farmville & other games, would this be a good game playing machine for on there? I'm use to owning a Dell so I'm a new kid on a block when it comes to acers. Is their anything that you can say that would help me out with this acer 5534. Plus also my camera doesn't want to work.
