Hello everybody, Sorry it’s been a while – I’ve been getting everything ready for this weekend’s 2009 Kick Off meet up in London. Don’t worry, it won’t be on you calendars – it’s the annual internal meeting with Acer people from all over the world to set goals, establish objectives, present a whole bunch of [...]

After closely following the comments over the Christmas period and bringing some of them to the attention of the tech support people in Acer, I recently received a mail from the Acer Software Product Management team regarding the Live Update issues many of you have been experiencing with the Linux Linpus operating system.

This nugget comes courtesy of Jesus Montemayor who spotted it while looking for a solution to the wireless issues with the Aspire One.
Win an Aspire One

Want to win an Aspire One or other great prizes?
Well, here’s your chance and no, I’m not involved. Believe it or not Acer is.
That’s right, this is an official contest to spark up even more interest in “the world’s best selling netbook“.
Basically, the rules are simple. Combine decent film-making skills (or just a wacky idea) with even better social media skills (ie get the word out about your video to as many people as you can as fast as you can and get votes) and the prize is yours.
The Aspire One IS number one.

Back in June when we first heard of the Aspire One netbook, we knew it was going to be big (metaphorically).
I always remember the smile on the face of the marketing VP when he took one of the first mock-up prototypes out of his bag. Oh yes, we all thought, “I want one!”.
And within seconds, we had the campaign payoff.
Well it looks like our first reaction to this stunning netbook was right. According to a report published a few days ago by DisplaySearch, the Aspire One has totally blown away the competition and is, quite literally, number One.

Many of your questions and problems concerning the Aspire One (Linux edition) come from the fact that a lot of you don’t remember the password you set when you first turned on the machine.
Well, rather than reinstalling everything from the recovery disk which effectively resets everything including the root password, there is a better solution

A while ago I came across this wonderful work by Hugh MacLeod. Hugh has become extremely well known for his ability to hit the nail fair and square on the head.
He’s done it again and I hope he doesn’t mind me hijacking the concept for a few seconds.
Take a look at it again and then think of technology. You’ll see something that strikes a chord with everything Acer has tried to achieve (with varying success) over the years.

I’m not one to quote other articles. That’s because I usually like to create my own conversations. I guess that explains why I end up talking to myself.

I was in a meeting today talking about the changes we want to bring to Acer’s marketing strategy now that they’re HUGE (new website anyone?) when I got a Google Alert for the Aspire One. Now normally I don’t pay that much attention as well, all people write about is how good/cool/cute they are and [...]
