I’m writing this piece as there have been many, many requests both here and on the forum about IE8 and BioProtection. Many many thanks to Simone for helping me understand the “technical” side of it.
A lot of you have downloaded IE8 from Microsoft and now the BioProtection software you used while surfing the web no longer works.
Here’s the deal:

I got it!
Yesterday I sneaked into Acer’s marketing company and managed to bag a sneak look at all three Aspire Timeline models (13.3″, 14″, 15.6″). I hadn’t actually seen them in real life before and they really are slick machines and a step above what you’re used to at that price bracket.
OK, I won’t get any awards for this video but at least you can see them!!

Another video found lurking on YouTube. This time it’s the presentation of the new Aspire Revo. Kudos to Tecnozoom for putting it up. The video is in Italian but the slides of the presentation are not. Hope to get my hands on one of these soon as I know absolutely nothing about it. Yet…

Hands up… How many of you laughed when Gianfranco Lanci said Acer would soon become the world’s second-biggest PC brand? It’s OK. I’m sure many people inside Acer thought the same, although they wouldn’t if they’d actually met the guy.
There’s an interesting article published on 15th April by Gartner that shows just how close we are to reaching that goal.
“Dell and Acer finished the quarter in a virtual tie for the No. 2 position in the worldwide PC market; they are separated by just 0.1 percent points”

The Aspire Timeline has been one hell of a sparring partner these past few weeks.
First I had to come up with the name itself, then the marketing messages and website content and finally the retail information content (leaflets you’ll find in the stores) that we’re still working on as I write.
When the product description first arrived, the key messages we had to underline were very simple:
Are you getting the picture(s)?

Just a quick post to invite all of you over to The Acer Guy’s Flickr page. Don’t know if you scroll down regularly to see the photo album page but I’ve recently been uploading everything I can lay my hands on for all the new models Acer’s introduced. Right now the new Aspire 3935 is [...]

OK, let’s start the week off with the bad news. I got this feed through my Tweetscan reader and as I’m not one to shy away from stuff like this, I thought I’d bring it to your attention as well. On 19th March, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a recall alert regarding the [...]

After the recent revelations from Macles regarding the next-generation Aspire One models, I’m wondering if I should open a new section to this site called “The Rumor Mill” after this turned up on my Twitter radar.

Have any of you guys seen the Acer smartphone video I found over on Engadget? Recorded at the launch last week in Barcelona it really shows off the widget interface. The other really interesting story about the Tempo smartphone is the news that Aymar de Lencquesaing, President of Acer’s Smart Handheld Business Unit, is hammering [...]

So, from one day to the next, we move into an entirely new market. Acer is already one of the world’s leading notebook manufacturers and undisputed champion of the newly-hatched netbook segment thanks to the Aspire One. And now they’ve launched their handhelds – oops, I mean Tempo Smartphone Series. OK, here’s the deal. Mobile [...]
