Hopefully someone here will set me straight, but before someone says replace the battery with the same voltage as the old one, I'll explain why I'm cautious...
I bought this Aspire 6930G (model 583G25Bn) a while back, as a refurbished unit. Therefore it didn't come in the original packaging and it's possible that the battery was pulled from another unit. Back then the battery would only last around 30 minutes then the laptop would switch off without battery warnings. I only had a 30 day warranty so got a replacement battery from the supplier, which lasted about an hour initially but fairly quickly went the same way as the first battery. Now the battery will last around 5 minutes before the laptop just dies, so it's a case of keeping it plugged in all the time. Otherwise this has been a good machine.
So I was looking at buying a replacement battery and noticed that both 11.1V and 14.8V types are listed for this model. So, can anyone clarify which is the correct type? I'm unsure whether the 11.1V that I already have is correct and I doubt the supplier would have even bothered to check if the right battery was supplied. The DC rating on the laptop is 19V, 4.74A, if this helps at all. I checked on the Acer online store and they don't list the 6930G, but the 6920G, which I assume is the same, but they don't state the battery voltage, only that it's 8 cells and 4800mAh, which I think may be the 14.8V type

Can I fit a later SATA II or III HDD, or must I find an earlier standard one?

I ask because an old Dell desktop refuses to recognise SATA II or III drives.

Hello everybody

I have an Aspire 5920 which for some reason, upon Power-on/startup reboots exactly 5 times in a row (within few seconds from power on) and hereafter boots normally into Win7 and works like a charm hereafter.

This problem also happens if the computer has been in "hibernate"-mode, then it has to reboot 5 times in a row, and then works perfect again.

Are there any service-manuals that could guide me to which part of the mobo which perhaps needs to be resoldered or the like?

Or do any of you know which part of the mobo/PSU that I should focus on?

Many thanks in advance, here from Denmark! :-)

Hi

I am having problems updating to the latest ati driver, and acer seems to be uninterested in updating anything on their own site

have you got any solutions to get the newest Radeon 5650 drivers for my laptop,

Getting the drivers off ati site result in a... couldnt update your drivers, please contact manufacturer.

and after searching around, this seems to be a problem for a few different laptop brands, where vendors dont update on their sites which causes the same issue when trying to get updates.

have you got any suggestions... ideally a link to a fix and instructions would be great.

many thanks

Let me start by saying I love my little machine.

But I reckon it can handle more and I'm thinking of upgrading it as much as I can to run some better games (it can handle MW2 nay problemo)

Currently has Intel Dual Core T4300 @2.1GHz, 4GB memory and Radeon HD4570 512MB graphics card. It runs on a Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset on Windows 7 Premium.

Can anyone tell me what the max specs I could upgrade to are? Ideally I wouldn't mind getting up to 3Ghz processor and 8GB ram but I'm so inane I'm unsure how to check?

On a side note, just how easy/ very difficult is it to upgrade on a laptop?

Thanks for anything anyone can give!

Hi guys
i have a acer aspire T671 and im not sure about a option in the bios
the option marked "frequency/voltage control" has several option within, however its the one marked "CPU Host/SRC/ATIG" that im not sure about
i understand cpu host is regarding cpu speed however what does "SRC" and "ATIG" option mean ?
the choices inside this option are as follows :
default
100/100/100mhz
133/100/100mhz
200/100/100mhz
266/100/100mhz
however looking at this its only the cpu host frequency which increases and the second two values stay at 100
has anyone used this option or have any idea on how to use it .......
ive used clockgen using the ppl code found on the motherboard and succesfully overclocked the pc to 3.5ghz from 2.8ghz( pentium D 915 )
any help will be much appreciated
cheers guys

Okay, so this thing is still under warranty but I am sick and tired of sending my computer away, placing orders with Acer, just so they can cancel the order without my permission and still 6 months later, I still haven't set this thing up as I'd like, so I am attempting this DIY-style, but I need infomration on a part or where to obtain it. I need the dual USB port/card (if you were typing on this model it would be on your right side), but not he ribbon.

I have a simple question why is this laptop so cheap? The reason why I am asking this is because is because it is quad core, and has a large hard drive, I am increasing the ram to 7gb as its only costing £20 to do so , so why not, any ideas on how fast the laptop would run and if its any good?

I dont understand why this laptop is so cheap compared to other quad core laptops ?

Morning,

My question is can my Acer Aspire X3950 (i5-650, 4GBDDR3) run both the on-board and a second graphics card at the same time.

The graphics card is an ATI Radeon, 2450 and works fine.

I have three options in the bios, PCI-E, Onboard and Auto.

On PCI-E the Radeon works fine, I have a DVI splitter on the card and am able to run two monitors in Ubuntu 10.04, no sweat.

On Auto the bios favours the Radeon and again, all works fine.

On On-board the system boots from the HDMI or VGA(DSUB) no problem.

So my main question is, can it support both and if so, how do I enable it.

Many thanks,

I have a acer 5920, and was thinking of changing the motherboard out for one from a 5920g. I'm not sure, but does this mean i get the graphics card port, and will it work? Considering they are nearly the same laptop, it should. I was going to buy new hardware for this laptop anyway, due to needing more power but not having enough to buy a brand new laptop.
Any help is appreciated

I have an Acer Aspire 7552g-6061 which contains three memory slots for DDR3 10600 RAM. This is the motherboard specs:
Manufacturer	Acer
Model	Aspire 7552
Version	V1.03
Chipset Vendor	AMD
Chipset Model	785GX
Chipset Revision	00
Southbridge Vendor	AMD
Southbridge Model	SB850

I ordered three sticks to replace the two that came factory and a friend pointed out that this may cause the RAM to operate as single channel instead of dual channel, unless the motherboard supports odd sticks as dual channel. Is this the case? If so will there be any noticeable loss of performance from running 12GB as single channel?

Hi all,

I recently bought a 7738G laptop, and I'm pretty pleased with it. Also, I applied for the +- free windows 7 upgrade, which was a pretty cool offer. However, the entire upgrade proved more than an adventure to get working:)

From the start, the update didn't go very well. For starters, they sent me the correct CD-key (for a home premium system), but sent my a windows 7 ultimate DVD.. Idiots. I downloaded/borrowed as you will, a home premium DVD, and installed it. The CD key worked perfectly, and my windows 7 was up and running!
Then, another problem came up. Acer also supplied acer drivers and stuff on an extra CD. It has a nice GUI that leads you through the process. However, this thing crashed, and leaves you all on your own. It had upgraded some drivers, but not all.. Lucky, some browsing through the CD contents, gives you all you need (and more! You only need 1/3 of the drivers there). Alternatively, one could go to the Acer driver download page, and get them from there.
That's not the end of the story though, the wierdest thing is yet to come. When updating the audio driver from realtek, suddenly my volume slider bar went 'out'. Nothing came out anymore. No reboot could fix it. What was even wierder, even booting on linux didn't revive it! The realtek software had definetly caused it to go out, but had somehow screwed up some internal hardware flags, that prevented it from coming back on the next reboot! Reinstall the driver, or reverting back to the old one, just didn't bring it back. What a mistery!
The buttons Fn+Arrow worked correctly to change the volume, and as I was used to, a cool gray-white window displays a volume bar when doing this. Then I thought, it might be this program that needed to be reinstalled or something. The cool gray-white windows program apparently was called 'launch manager', one of many properly named Acer proggies that came with the laptop. Uninstalling it was easy, but reinstalling it was hell. The acer driver download site offers this launch manager software, but it's a way more stupid version. An ugly green bar appears instead of the nice gray-white stuff:) And similairly, disabling wireless etc gave ugly green comments, instead of a nice picture of a sat-dish. So, what to do? Revert back to the old software right? Wrong, it wouldn't even install on windows 7, even with a vista-emulator. The way I got it back working, was first reinstall the crappy windows 7 one, unpacking the old good installer (of which the setup.exe didn't work), and copy pasting all the Lmanager files to the install folder of the crappy windows 7 Lmananger. Guess what, it worked:) I got my launch manager back! Shees..
Still no volume bar though. But this is when the real magic comes into action. I had given up all hope of getting this thing back to work. I read something about a guy who had similar symptoms (thought it was a hardware failure), then downgraded his bios or something, and got it back to work. I however, had not upgraded any bios, and was not very keen on doing so. It would though, have been my last shot at fixing it. Luckily, this proved unnessesary , because of some magic revival of the volume bar! Just like that, I hardly noticed it, it came back up... Not after a reboot or something, just like that, it came back to life... I now run the latest audio driver (to avoid wierd things happening when playing music, which happened in the old one), and the slider bar works.. What happened? Beats me:) But I thought I'd post my findings here, so that maybe, it might help someone someday.

One thing is for certain, you'll never get bored with your acer:)

Thanks for reading,

Arnout

Hi. I'm new to this site so please be understanding if I make any fait pas!
I'm upgrading my T180's processor (yes I know it’s prehistoric) from AMD Sempron 3400+ to Athlon 64 X2 7550 2.5 GHz Socket AM2+ 2MB (which I have bought) the mother board is EM61SM/EM61PM. I've checked (and was advised that this is compatible) but also that I should upgrade my BIOS prior to doing this, as I might encounter problems and are more difficult to fix after the event. The only problem I have is locating the BIOS upgrade. Have been to ACER's site with no success, can any one advise? Many thanks in anticipation. This is a short term fix as I've been off work due to illness and want to go the whole hog soon to a new pc to Win7 with Office 2010, when I'm in the money! I am currently running XPMCE2sp3. I'm not new to PCs but the extent of my upgrade experience is inserting new RAM! Cheers BC

Hi, I'm new here. Sorry for double posting, I don't know where to place this.

Recently my acer 5920G (it's coming to 4 years old) performance is getting poorer and also getting warmer day by day compared to when i first got it.

I would like to know if anyone knows how to completely dissect an acer 5920G to replace all the termal paste? Some illustrations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

P/S: I don't mind trying hands on and taking risks.

I am a student pursuing my Masters from University of Bath, Uk. To support my studies I ordered the laptop online from the direct acer site on on 14 October 2010 and just 20 days past and there was the problem with the LCD screen getting distorted and there was no external crash and scratch on the laptop, when i tried to contact the acre technical, they told me that its wont be carried in warranty and they cost me £ 117 and they repaired in November 2010 and now in June 2011 the same problem occurred, Its a manufacturing defect with the laptop and always I have to pay from my pocket for the screen, first time I felt It may be unfortunate with me, but how can the same problem occur in same laptop second time, I am not at all satisfied with the service of Acer. as a student paying £ 117 again literally suck

Hi

I want to factory reset my Acer 7720G laptop but have no discs at all (totally lost any recovery discs). I've found Acer Aspire 7720G Laptop Windows Vista Recovery Disks for sale at Gennersale.co.uk - would this do it? Also would I lose the Microsoft Office, etc that it came with or would these also restore?

Many thanks
