On other websites for motherboards and laptops I've owned, the vendor has described what the updates in the BIOS did on a functional level. For instance, an HP bios update on my wife's older laptop enabled use of 4 GB sticks of ram. Does anyone know of a place for pure BIOS discussions? The acer website is generally lacking in any detail. I'm specifically looking for 7736z info.

This past weekend I bought my wife an Aspire 1 D257. After charging the battery, I turned it on, noted that the battery was 100%, unplugged it, and gave it to the wife to use. In less than 2 hrs the battery was dead. What? No way I say. But true.

The reviews I read on the D257 indicated up to 8 hours of battery life. I would have been happy with 4 hrs, but can't handle less than 2 hours.

Solution? I would like to find an extended life battery (i.e. 6 cell) for the D257, but so far I am unable to find a source.

HELP ME PLEASE! Cry for assistance before I have to take it back to Walmart for my money back.

On Tuesday, Acer chairman JT Wang warned the opposition that his company has moved away from purely defending its position in the market as seen in 2011. Instead, Acer is now in full attack position and poised to deal a vicious blow from four specific angles: ultrabooks, netbooks, tablets and smartphones. The chairman made his virtual war cry during Acer's ceremony for the Lunar New Year.

Acer's strongest blow, according to JT Wang, will be on the ultrabook front. The company will reportedly launch four new models in 2Q12 alone, and then an additional, unspecified number of ultrabooks sporting a tasty pricetag of $699 to $799 USD the following quarter. Acer president Jim Wong added that the company will adopt a passive strategy over pricing, that going forward, user experience and demand will become the major selling points rather than a competitive price tag.

In the tablet sector, Acer plans to steer clear of the high-end and low-end markets ruled by Apple's iPad and Amazon's Kindle Fire respectively. Instead, Acer will attack via the mid-range avenue priced between $299 and $499 USD. Currently this specific market has an estimated shipment scale of around 10 to 20 million units, but that may change once Apple reportedly introduces the iPad 3 which addresses both the mid-range and high-end markets.

As for Acer's netbook assault, the company assumes that developed countries will sway towards the ultrabook form factor. However the shipment volume of netbooks in emerging countries is still growing, allowing Acer to maintain its 45-percent worldwide market share. But eventually that will come to an end, as the netbook and ultrabook sectors are expected to merge into one happy segment within the next 18 to 24 months.

Tuesday’s report did not offer details surrounding Acer's smartphone assault, so stay tuned.

Hi,

When I try to update my new M3970 to the current BIOS from the Acer site the flash update process fails with a response:

ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID

I have successfully installed previous BIOS updates to the same computer, and I downloaded this three times to ensure it was not corrupted in transmission.

Any suggestions?

OK Acer, you really dropped the ball on this one. DO you really truely even read the emails sent in?
Here is what I sent to you:

I've called several times now about a replacement battery that will not charge at my computer. At your suggestion I've:
Updated the BIOS
Re-calibrated the battery (or tried to)
Un-installed the battery in the device manager and let it reinstall.

All of the above have failed.
Of three different batteries, two simply won't show as even being attached to the computer, the other showed it present and charging, but failed to actually charge. None of them once drained, have had a bit of power put back into them.

My original battery though wore out, will still show as attached, and charges, just won't hold more than 5-10 minutes worth of charge any more.

I need a battery for this computer, or it's worthless. Why won't the replacement batteries charge but my original battery will?

And here is your response:

Thank you for contacting Acer America. I’ll be happy to assist you with this issue.

As per the serial number (removed) your system is out of warranty.

Daniel, after reviewing your email, I understand that you require a new battery for your computer.

Daniel, you can purchase a new battery from the following link. || http://us-store.acer.com/category.aspx?modelID=131&ModelName=Aspire%25208930G ||

Have a great day!

Respectfully,

Hi to everyone.

I have been reading reviews over months to choose the best laptop. nothing strike me on the CES2012 but I have already kind of leaned to the ICONIA-6120.

in most amazon reviews they issue about how to lower touchscreen stop functioning relative fast.

can anyone share it's experience with this model.

According to Intels website the Atom N570 is supporting 4GB ram.
I have a - Aspire One Happy2 - N57Ch2b Atom N570 1.66Ghz

According to this youtube video, one viewer claims he has done a 4gb upgrade.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqQ3kdtUNFc

What memory should I use for upgrading to 4gb?

Following are suggestions from forums that I found around the net:
Corsair CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9 4GB 1X4GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 204PIN SODIMM Memory?
Kingston 4 GB SODIMM (Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G)?

But no secondary confirmation that it works.
Or if there is a BIOS limitation to it.

OK, before anyone says, I know all about 32-bit OS's only being only able to access a 4Gb address space, but I also know about Physical Address Extension (PAE) which allows a 32-bit OS to access the space above 4Gb. I also know that some memory is reseved for buffers, registers etc so all memory may not be available.

Having said all that, I have 2 laptops on my desk at present, an Acer 8920G and a Dell E6400. Both have 4Gb physical memory. The Dell, running XP, reports about 3.5Gb of ram (3620866K) while the Acer, running Windows 7, only report 3Gb (3070M).

So the question is why the Acer doesn't appear to be using any of the 'top' 1Gb while the Dell manages to make half of it available?

Is there some setting to change somewhere? I can't see anything in the BIOS and have tried enabling PAE (although I didn't really expect that to work as it's meant for memory above the 4Gb limit).

Or is the system actually already using the extra and just not reporting it to Windows 7?

As the title says, this is more of a puzzle than a problem, since the real answer (if I actually had applications that needed all that memory) is to switch to 64-bit.

I'm working on an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop that is out of warranty for a non-profit organization. It has a strange power on problem that I have no idea where to start working on. I'm at a complete loss and need some help. Here's the problem...

If the laptop is powered off for more than 6 hours it will not power on with the AC adapter plugged in. If I unplug the AC adapter from the laptop, it will power up on battery power. When it is turned on it will run fine on either battery or AC adapter. When it's powered off the battery light is lit, but when I press the power button, the battery light goes out. I unplug the AC adapter and the laptop will power on from the battery and the battery light will come back on. But this will only happen if the laptop is powered off for more than 6 hours, less than that it will power on fine.

I've tried removing the battery and powering on with just the AC adapter and it will not power on. I've tried removing the AC adapter and battery and holding the power button for 1 minute, did not solve the problem. I was having this problem before I did a full factory restore of the laptop and am still having after doing a factory restore. I sent an e-mail to Acer's technical support looking for suggestions and all they told me was to reset the BIOS to the default settings. I tried that and am now waiting for 6 hours to see if that solves it. I'm thinking it won't make a difference. I ran virus scans and Malware Bytes, both came up clean.

I'm at a loss of what to try next. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Ive been using windows 7 beta since its relase with my aspire 6920 and I found it better then Vista. I only had one issue which wasnt a big deal. When the laptop was running only on battery windows media player sound would cut out temporarily however the song would continue to play. That didnt bother me that much.

Now im using Windows 7 RC and I am having a freezing issue. The computer boots up runs fine for about 15 minutes or so then freezes up. When these freeze ups occur I am running the bare minimum of programs. Sometimes it is only windows explorer. At max I may be running Windows Messenger, A Web browser and windows explorer.

It doesnt matter whether I use firefox or IE still freezes. Sometimes when these freezes occur I am able to bring up the task manager most of the time I am forced to restart via power button.

I installed clean versions of it several times to try to fix the problem. I do a clean install everytime I do not upgrade. I have even downloaded the latest N vidia drivers for my Geforce 9500 M.

Other observations; doenst seem to matter what program causes the freezing ill click something on either MSN, Web broser, or windows explorer and it happens. When i check performance on the task manager the RAM is usually fine maybe 20-30% The CPU usage tends to spile during this perios around 80-90% Im thinking this is the problem. AS far as i know drivers for cpus are built in. Correct me if im wrong.

I also switched back to XP and It ran alot better however It was taking forever to get all my drivers working. I was unable to install realtek and i cannot live without sound.

Wondering if anyone else is having these problems so we can work together on resloving it. I doubt its a hardware issue the laptop is a beast love the design but sometimes I just wanna smash it. I was having the odd problem with freezing when i was running Vista as well.

I have recently re-installed windows vista home premium from disc on my acer aspire 5535 and since have not been able to get the wireless or ethernet working again. I have tried relentlessly using the drivers supplied via the acer support website but to no avail. part of the issue i am having with the wireless is that acers website lists 2 different drivers for this model, and without actually taking the machine apart, i have failed to find out which device driver i should be concentrating on! (i dont want to have to resort to taking the thing apart, but guess i will have to if no one knows!) any suggestions to which is the one correct wireless drive or any solutions to getting the ethernet working - the driver installation just fails half way through with no explaination as to why =( any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recently recieved a Acer - Travelmate 2200 from my friend. When i press the power on button on the travelmate , youll hear the fans spin but there's a black screen. After that it tries several times to power on, after 7-8? times it start up and loads the bios screen. Laptop works fine after that part, you guys have any idea what the cause could be? Myself was thinking about bad memory.

Hi
I have an Acer 5739G that have stopped working. Symptoms are as follow: Laptop goes through the post process, checks the memory and drives etc but does not boot from any device. I have tried replacing memory, replacing hard drive, trying booting from USB drive and more.
I am expecting that the BIOS got corrupted and I was wondering how to update bios in my case? I obviously cannot use WinFlash tool from ACER as I cannot boot to windows or even DOS.
I know that there is an option to flash BIOS straight away from USB key using FN+ESC+POWER because I used this option with Aspire One. Also I tried booting my laptop with BIOS on USB Drive and I got activity. I was using original files from the archive of BIOS 3310 downloaded from ACER site.
I remember that in case of Aspire ONE those files had to be renamed, maybe I have to rename them in my case?

And at last if someone meet same issue that I have, maybe there is an other solution? I would like to avoid replacing the motherboard as it is expensive job even that I can do it myself.

Ok tried everywhere else. so here's my question.. I have two acer 5532 in like new condition. They do not have a webcam at all. I know for a few dollars the OEM webcams can be purchased as replacement parts. What I am asking is what needs to be done to install one of these OEM cameras in a 5532 that originally had none installed? TAKING IT TO A HACK REPAIR SHOP IS NOT AN OPTION!!!! I am more than capable of doing the work myself, I am just not 100% sure it can be done. Thanks

Acer 8930 charging problem

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello all,
I cannot find anywhere this same problem.
I bought a replacement battery and my laptop recognises the battery model etc. and says 'charging' but battery remains 0% after discharging.
My original battery chzarges fine though although is now near end of it's life.
I flashed the bios to no avail so got battery replaced by supplier---still same problem.
I then bought an original battery at great expense from an indipendant retailer. This has same problem but my original battery still charges fine.
For this reason i find it hard to beleive there is any problem with m/board charging and i know it's not the ext charger.
I would be so grateful for any help out there.
I tried Acer uk for help but they just told me to go to the retailer who sold the battery---they have offered me refund but that doesn't really help--i need battery.

thanks in advance

Hello everybody , i am so glad i find and join this great site.I am looking for some help with my Acer 7520G which for about 3 months now has been giving me problems and recently has quit completely to work.
A quick journal of failure 7520g:
1)playing COD and similar games i noticed lots of lags, changed drivers but the problems remained and gradually got worst.I OC the 8600m gs and finally i had to remove the nvidia drivers because the screen in win7 was locking up.It worked with the standard vga drivers just as a laptop for internet access, youtube etc.
2)Cooked the Gpu worked for a month then back to standard vga
3)acer logo boots ,before win7 boots the cpu restars again and again...
4)the laptop opens the hdd is heard but there is the endless cycle of rebooting and switching off by it self
5)Hot aired the nvidia chipset on the mobo yestarday, didnt work

So i am having a plan in my mind, keep caddy and slowly keep upgrading the whole system.
A)Motherboard -Has anyone buy one from ebay? warnings, advices welcomed!
B)whats the best GPU mxm type II (money aside). Is the ati 4670 still considered the best gaming card i can put inside?will it work with the 7520g?What could i do to make it perform
C)CPU i want to try the TL-68 .does the 1.33 bios work with this?Is there a modded one?
D)Can i exceed the 4GB limits of ram?
With rough calculations i estimate about 450-500 euros for new M/B,CPU,GPU.
How good you think this will work on the new games such as COD-mw3...

I know too many questions.have already have gone through many threads, i am looking for a more condensed theadon experimenting/upgrading 7520G!

Thank you all!

Acer wants me to call their fee based phone line for these simple questions. I figured I would check here first

1. Where is the memory physically located at on this model? There is no memory panel on the back, and before I start poking around figured I would ask

2. It comes with 2gb out of the box. I would like to go to at least 4gb. Is the 2 gb it comes with in a single stick or two 1 gb sticks.? (I.e. will I have to buy two 2gb sticks or just one 2gb stick)

Thanks in advance!

So the fan on my laptop was getting dirty and my friend said that he knew how to take it out and clean it for me. I watched him take my laptop apart, including the keyboard and all, and then reassemble it. Then when I tried to turn back on my laptop, it won't turn on. All of the screws were put back in their proper place, so I'm not quite sure what the issue is. When I try to plug in my charger, for a second the light is orange and then it turns to green.
Does anyone know what I can do to repair this issue?

Hi, Im really hoping someone can help me. Im not having very much luck of late with my acer aspire 4010t. It is currently at a pc shop where I have been informed it will cost £150.00 to fix, minimum, and Im concerned I have no way of knowing whether this is a decent fair price?

The laptop goes on, begins to start up then the screen goes blank and does not return. Everything else seems to work.

Im have been told the issue is that I need a replacement screen or screen connection replaced?

The laptop is only 18 months old, obviously out of warranty (it was returned in warrenty for a month to have the mother board replaced). I cannot afford any repairs really at the moment and just want to make sure that Im not paying for something I dont need to?

If anyone has any knowledge of this issue or ways it can be rectified and costs that would be a great help

Many Thanks
