Both have 4Gb physical memory. The Dell, running XP, reports about 3.5Gb of ram (3620866K) while the Acer, running Windows 7, only report 3Gb (3070M).</p> <p>So the question is why the Acer doesn't appear to be using any of the 'top' 1Gb while the Dell manages to make half of it available?</p> <p>Is there some setting to change somewhere? If I unplug the AC adapter from the laptop, it will power up on battery power. When it is turned on it will run fine on either battery or AC adapter. I unplug the AC adapter and the laptop will power on from the battery and the battery light will come back on. But this will only happen if the laptop is powered off for more than 6 hours, less than that it will power on fine.</p> <p>I've tried removing the battery and powering on with just the AC adapter and it will not power on. I've tried removing the AC adapter and battery and holding the power button for 1 minute, did not solve the problem. I was having this problem before I did a full factory restore of the laptop and am still having after doing a factory restore. I sent an e-mail to Acer's technical support looking for suggestions and all they told me was to reset the BIOS to the default settings. I tried that and am now waiting for 6 hours to see if that solves it. I'm thinking it won't make a difference. I only had one issue which wasnt a big deal. When the laptop was running only on battery windows media player sound would cut out temporarily however the song would continue to play. That didnt bother me that much. </p> <p>Now im using Windows 7 RC and I am having a freezing issue. The computer boots up runs fine for about 15 minutes or so then freezes up. When these freeze ups occur I am running the bare minimum of programs. Sometimes it is only windows explorer. At max I may be running Windows Messenger, A Web browser and windows explorer.</p> <p>It doesnt matter whether I use firefox or IE still freezes. Sometimes when these freezes occur I am able to bring up the task manager most of the time I am forced to restart via power button.</p> <p>I installed clean versions of it several times to try to fix the problem. I do a clean install everytime I do not upgrade. I have even downloaded the latest N vidia drivers for my Geforce 9500 M.</p> <p>Other observations; doenst seem to matter what program causes the freezing ill click something on either MSN, Web broser, or windows explorer and it happens. When i check performance on the task manager the RAM is usually fine maybe 20-30% The CPU usage tends to spile during this perios around 80-90% Im thinking this is the problem. AS far as i know drivers for cpus are built in. Correct me if im wrong.</p> <p>I also switched back to XP and It ran alot better however It was taking forever to get all my drivers working. I was unable to install realtek and i cannot live without sound.</p> <p>Wondering if anyone else is having these problems so we can work together on resloving it. I doubt its a hardware issue the laptop is a beast love the design but sometimes I just wanna smash it. I watched him take my laptop apart, including the keyboard and all, and then reassemble it. Then when I tried to turn back on my laptop, it won't turn on. All of the screws were put back in their proper place, so I'm not quite sure what the issue is. Im not having very much luck of late with my acer aspire 4010t. It is currently at a pc shop where I have been informed it will cost £150.00 to fix, minimum, and Im concerned I have no way of knowing whether this is a decent fair price?</p> <p>The laptop goes on, begins to start up then the screen goes blank and does not return. Everything else seems to work. </p> <p>Im have been told the issue is that I need a replacement screen or screen connection replaced?</p> <p>The laptop is only 18 months old, obviously out of warranty (it was returned in warrenty for a month to have the mother board replaced).
