I bought a used Acer Aspire 5520 and reinstalled Vista Home Premium. Then had a problem with "camera no found" message when I clicked on "Crystal Eye Webcam". Spent hours searching the web and downloaded all of the recommended drivers but still no solution.

When conducting a full system virus scan I happened to notice the webcam light go on and saw the file address being checked by the virus scan at that time. This file contained one of the drivers I had downloaded which was the "Bison" driver.

After the scan I went into the file and sourced the "setup" facility for the driver. Clicked on this and all has been good since.

Hope this helps you!

Hi,

I have an Acer6930Z, the lights turn blue when switched on, the disc drive starts up and the fan is on, however the screen just stays black.

Am hoping someone would be able to give me some ideas on things to check or possibly know what the fault is.

Thanks in advance.

I did try that, but it was not functioning.

I guess I found the solution for the situation.
Please follow the order..

1. First uninstall any/all messenger you have (say skype, google-talk or yahoo-messenger). and then uninstall your camera driver by going to the device manager and uninstalling the Acer Crystal eye software.

Now RESTART YOUR PC...

2. Here be Careful...!

First again un-install your acer crystal eye software from the Device manager and then install the messenger first.

Restart your computer and EUREKA.... The camera works fine..

Remember this-- Never to have two messenger's using the camera at the same time been installed. This could be another reason why the skype says.. camera not found OR Camera already in use..

Cheers till next time this thing fails again

Power off and remove battery,
remove the screen cover to expose the camera. carefully unplug the wire that it is attached to the side of the camera board,(little white coupling) and re-insert. Replace cover - boot and things should be fine. Worked for my Acer Aspire 5740.

Hi i am having a problem with my acer aspire 6930 i think my hdd crashed recently, here is what happened i pressed power and the machine would not load to windows and with further check the hdd was not coming u in the bios so i replaced the hdd with a seagate 500gb sata, now this hdd is read just fine in the bios, i do to boot from cd and try installing windows 7, at first it looked like all was well until it passed over an hour and the install was nowhere near finished anyway this took 3+ hours and when it is rebooting to complete the installation, after it boots pass the bios it goes to a blank screen with a blinking line at the upper left of the screen, 5 mins after the line stops blinking 10 mins later it says starting windows 5-10 mins later the animated windows icon comes then that takes anther 20 mins to boot to the home screen, now i know this is not normal but cannot get any advise about it and i am forced to believe the motherboard may be faulty but i need advise in case i am missing something i am desperately seeking help.

Hello everybody.

My english level is low, so excuse me.

Today i was watching youtube videos on my aspire 6930; then the sound starts to fail and finally machine freeze. I unplugged the AC adapter, waited few seconds and plugged again. But now the machine have no video on it, no BIOS, no nothing. Just the LED indicators starts normally, the battery indicator is on, and the power button works fine.

I removed RAM modules, and tested with other RAM from another machine, and do the same.

I've readed solutios for aspire one flashing BIOS from a usb stick, that solutions applies for my problem or i have to go out running for a new laptop?

33.ASR07.003	BRACKET.HDD.2ND.ZK2

Those are the two parts you will need for a 2nd HDD in this model.

I have just opened up a 6930G to look at the 2nd HDD connector on the mainboard, looks good for a Sata HDD to slide straight onto it unlike the primary HDD which has a connector on it.

I have a ACER Aspire 6930 purchased in Sept 2008. It has a Seagate 5400 250GB Momemtus drive. It also has a second drive bay. I want to use a OCZ SSD as the Win7 boot drive. I am already running Win 7 PRO now but I am planning on starting from scratch with a new install on a SSD and keeping my data on the Seagate.

The one thing I do not like about ACER is the poor documentation available. Even the service manual, which I tracked down doesn't show how to switch out the hard drive or add a second one. I opened up the case and have some questions for those of you who have worked on ACERs.

I opened up the case and on the existing Seagate there is a metal plate that is the mount and it appears that it slips on to the connectors and then provides it’s own connector. I assume you remove the drive and slip the metal plate off in order to expose the hard drive. Is this how the second drive bay is suppose to work?

I have a drive bay for the 2nd drive space but I can not figure out how a drive would mount or connect. There is a single small connector available in the drive bay, but it is not meant for a SATA power or signal connector. Do I need to purchase some kind of mount and or connector adapter that the available plug is suppose to go to?

Does ACER provide any documentation for this and if so, where can I find it? Is there a way to check my serial number to see if I can even support a second drive? Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi

I have an Aspire 7720 and find the webcam very disappointing but think the webcam in the 6930 is excellent, at least by comparison.

I believe it's a 1.3MP camera whereas the 7720 is 0.3MP.

Can I replace mine with one from a 6930?

Many Thanks!

Hello jrichardson52,

This is a nice issue and I would love to have that unit on my table right now ! Replace the Mainboard or the A/C adapter.

As we can assume, the Mainboard controls the voltages and current for the LCD. Also don't forget that your LCD usually swaps to "power save mode LCD" when on battery and goes back on full usage once power has been restored. It also takes longer to start up when on battery (on most models)

As mentioned by you, you've already replaced most of the components and with that said, there only a few remaining:
*BIOS upgrade
*Replace Mainboard
*Replace CPU
*A/C Adapter

Please let me know the progress on that one :)

When booting this laptop with no operating system will display "no operating system found" as long as the power adapter is not plugged in! You can go to CMOS and it will display whatever page you are on...until the adapter is plugged in! Once the adapter is plugged in the laptop screen will go black, no cursor...nothing. The laptop is running. If plugged into an external monitor, the external monitor continues to display.

I have replaced the Screen and the Inverter, installed Windows 7 Professional, removed one of the memory modules, replaced the hard drive. As long as the laptop is running on the battery only it works fine. Plug in the adapter and within 5 - 10 seconds the screen goes blank. Remove the adapter, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and the screen comes back showing the user login. I have changed all of the power options for 'plugged in' to never, and have no screen saver. I have left all of the 'battery' power settings at default.

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

@Mr_M
There is something true with the 1% failure rate

I am having the same issue with the same model - what bugs me is that it was working for a very short while (2 days) and then it stopped working

I did even one picture from myself which excludes a manufacturing defect as it would not have worked at all..

Moreover I read about Crystal Eye healing, hopefully it will happen here aswell :)

I have found several drivers from multiple manufaturers for this model - from Suyin and Bison or are they the same?

Can somebody paste the "right" driver here? I have used the official Acer site

http://tinyurl.com/mfaakx

I would like to give it a last try after I reset the notebook to scratch.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Hello.

I'm trying to help some friends with the Aspire 6930 that they have had for maybe a year.

Although it had been working well, now it just boots to a black screen with a mouse-pointer arrow. The touch pad DOES work at that point, as do the caps-lock and num-lock keys. I have also tried it with an external monitor, but even though fn-f5 switched correctly, there was no difference in what was on the screen.

Neither chkdsk nor spinrite showed any problems on the hard drive.

None of the various recovery options changed anything.

Have NOT tried resetting it to factory defaults, yet, since I'll need to copy the users' files off the drive, first.

Although I saw a few more forum messages about the same problem, the ones that were for the 6930 were unanswered, and the ones that had an answer (e.g. update the BIOS) were for other models, and didn't provide BIOS information for the 6930.

Before I wipe out everything and try the factory defaults, are there any other things I could try?

From what I could see from searching the web, this is not an isolated problem, but has affected many Acer owners.

Thanks!

It sounds like your touchpad itself might be going bad.

But first, run a spyware program like Ad-Aware. If it's still doing it after removing malware, then try updating the touchpad drivers.

If that doesn't work...I hate to say it, but it's probably a hardware issue. Hook up an external mouse.

I have issues with my battery. The lap top is 14 month old. I used the lap top (not plugged in) and it works fine. Then I get a warning that says: 5% power left or 1h46min. And it dies after 4 minutes.

I remove the battery, put it back in and the problem goesaway for awhile but it seems to be happening more often. Do I need to get a new battery already?

I recently bought aspire 6930 that came with windows vista I received windows 7 in the mail and did a clean install. It works great but i lost all of the preinstalled programs that came with the notebook (acer arcade deluxe, NTI media maker 8,etc.)Is there a way to get these programs back? I have the recovery CDs I just dont know if they have the programs on them or not or if it will take me back to vista. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Well you can always un-install the LAN port driver and install the latest one. I've seen bad LAN drivers cause BSOD's. I would try that first before anything else.
