Hi guys, Im jukaz from malaysia. Recently a friend of mine got her acer aspire one (late 2010 model) water damaged. I removed the HDD for her and noticed that there are two other hatch which is for the RAM and another hatch which is empty .Problem is, she said that her netbook does have wifi and accused me of removing the wifi card. Im pretty 100% sure that when i opened the hatch there's nothing in it that resembles like a wireless module or anything. Ive been searching the internet for info on this but cant find any. Is it possible that her netbook had a built in wifi attached to the motherboard or anything? This is driving me nuts since the netbook itself is damaged and we cant turn it on to test for sure whether theres wifi in it. Thanks guys. :) hope to hear your opinions on this matter.

Hi
I have read alot of threads already on this problem but i'm still stuck.

I have an AOA150 acer aspire one running on XP and its out of warranty.

When plugged in an orange light shows but won't switch on, i have brought a new lead but no difference, i don't think its the battery as it still won't power on with the battery out. Occasionally when i mess around with the battery the screen may flick on for a second or when i hold the power button for a couple of minutes to drain all the power the screen flicks up again with the acer screen for about a second. Sometimes when i leave the lead plugged in for a couple of hours the light turns green but still doesn't do anything. I can't here any fans or anything running at all and when its plugged in and without battery in it makes a clicking.

I've also tried that bios update instructions with a usb stick by putting the flashit file and renaming that fb file but doesn't seem to do anything. I have only copied those 2 files to the usb and not copied any of the other files though. Am i doing that right?

And finally i have spoke to acer but they want me to send it in for £36+ posatge to have a look and then price up repairing it.

Anyone help as i don't want acer to charge me for sending it in if its going to be too expensive to reapair.

Thanks

Stephen

I left my laptop running and lost power. when i turned it back on the Acer logo shows and goes straight into "Resuming Windows" with the white bars along the bottom. It gives me the option to troubleshoot by pressing F8 but it only beeps and nothing happens.

How do I go about fixing this problem. my main concern are my photos. I do not have a back up and hope i can recover my files.

Hallelujah! Fixed it by flashing the BIOS, using these instructions:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-technology/891164-battery-not-charging-acer-aspire-one-6-cell.html

Acer Aspire one – battery not charging.
Solution: Update the bios as follows:
1. Go to http://www.support.acer.com
2. Click on Driver & Downloads
3. Select Product Family “Netbook”
4. Select Product Line Aspire One
5. Select your Product Model i.e.: AOA150 (located after MFG.Date:xxxx AOA 150 – xxxx)
6. Click on the BIOS tab below
7. Download the bios to a blank USB flash card.
8. Turn off your computer
9. Insert the USB flash card (containing the bios) into your Aspire One.
10. Hold down the FN key and the Esc Key at the same and turn on the computer.
11. Wait until the Power button starts flashing before letting go of the keys.
12. Allow the computer to complete its task (5 or more minutes).
13. Charge the computer for 5 hours and your computer should be working properly.

With the new 3310 Bios no need to boot from a USB Drive, follow the instructions above to get to the BIOS page, then all you need to do is the following:

1.Connect AC power
2.Clik InsydeFlash
3.Click "sure" to start flash BIOS.

Your PC will restart, and you'll be charging with a new BIOS in play.

I wish to God I'd never bought this bloody laptop! Constant battery problems have made it worse than useless. I recently bought it a new battery - its third - and left it sitting for a few weeks with the lid shut. Now it will only run on AC power.

Here are its specs:

Acer Aspire One N214
Model No. ZG5
Product Name: A0A150
BIOS: v0.3301
Windows XP Home Edition

The laptop is aware there's a battery present, giving these details in Power Meter:

Battery Name: BAT1
Unique ID: 0000UNKNOWNBAT1
Chemistry: LION
Power state: On Line
Manufacturer: UNKNOWN

In Power Meter, the battery's icon has a red X through it; it stays stubbornly at 0% charged. Sometimes the battery light on the laptop is a steady red; sometimes it flashes red. (If there's a pattern to this, I haven't spotted it.) ETA: I just powered the laptop down; the red light was steady for a few minutes, then began to flash.

The previous two batteries were definitely dead - I tested them in another problem-free Acer - and I assume they died because I was recharging them without draining them first. Now I'm worried the laptop is somehow killing batteries. (I can't test the current battery right now.)

No combination of rebooting and taking the battery in and out has helped. Please, please give me some suggestions on how to proceed, before I take an axe to the little bugger.

A driver is a software that allows the physical hardware and the Operating system, in this case Windows, to in essence talk to each other so that the hardware will work in Windows.

In this case you're talking about the touchpad. When you go to ACer's website look up your model in the support section. You're looking to download and install the latest driver for your touchpad.

hello everyone!
i'm new to the world of netbooks... i recently decided to retire my dinosaur ibm thinkpad 701c (from 1997) and upgraded. my boyfriend got me an acer aspire one 532h-5288. it's a lovely peice of equipment, but i'm having a problem with the virtual scrolling bar on the side of my touch pad.
it WILL NOT work for me. it did not work when i first opened the box and the aspire ran windows7 starter. it does not work now that i have updated to windows7 ultimate.
i see a lot of talk on the forums about drivers... but i have NO clue what i would be looking for.
any suggestions?

Hi tried your idea 'dissapointed acer' and this did'nt work and I can't flash the Bios as the 'power up' button on the AA1 is also dead. I've bought a new battery for it and waiting for it to be delivered, hopefully this will sort it, if not then it could be a bigger problem that might not be worth fixing financially. Thanks for the quick replies, i'll let you know if the battery thing solves this problem.

If you're using Acer's wireless connection program, uninstall it. You don't need it. Check and see if you can hold a connection on another network. If you can then it's your router and will need to be replaced.

Basically,

My Acer connects to the wireless network for about a minute before the icon at the bottom of the screen says that it is no longer connected.
However, I can still browse the web but the connection without warning just uts off and i have to repair it again. The only time it actually comes up as connected to the wireless network is when I first turn my computer on.
I have tried to download drivers from acer website but my computer can't find the programme.
Help?

Unfortunately I do not have an AAO based on linux. Your best bet would be to post in the Linpus linux forums. There are also dedicated forums for the Linux based Acer Aspire Ones. I'm sure they would be able to help you out.

Hello
i have an aspire one using the linpus lite os , in the past i have successfully recovered to factory default and then downloaded the updated firefox and skype from the acer application down load page .

i have just repeated the process to find that the acer support downloads are now dead links .

have also attempted to download the fedora version from the skype website which again i have successfully carried out in the past but these seem new versions and again i have been unsuccessful here too .

also i cannot seem to be able to email acer europe with the problem , and the usa support do not recognise my aspire one , also just ignored that the web site has dead links .

any ideas any one ?

thanks in anticipation

Did you ever figure out how to build a USB boot disk to partition your disk and reinstall your Windows XP on your Acer Aspire One zg5?

I’ve been trying to install XP from USB and/or use the recovery CD that came with the laptop to restore the hard disk to factory xp install...

All else fails, I'll try to get Ubuntu 10.10 to run on it but all I get is a blinking cursor in the corner after install. Anyone know where I can download the factory Linux install for this laptop? I'll go with that on my 8GB SSD drive... XP is soooooo slow I can feel myself getting old watching it.

Any guidance would be helpful
