It's the 'launch manager' application from the Acer website for your model, you need to install to make the Cinedash work. Otherwise the console only lights and displays the current volume level, which can be altered by windows volume control. Some of the cinedash still works without the app installed. I think play and stop maybe and a couple of others.

Besides, launch manager gives you the green OSD notifications, like 'Wireless LAN enabled', etc.

Doing the battery and power off trick for ten seconds is for when everthing is installed, but cinedash has frozen.

Try here:
After I installed W7 on mine I couldn't get the drivers suppied with the "official upgrade kit" to work, and those I downloaded from here worked fine.

I noticed yesterday that Acer released a new Launch Manager application for the 8920G (and maybe others) on 9th March. Version is 3.0.02. It appears to work correctly.

Of course, the last time I asked on the support web site I was told I'd be emailed when a new version was released (as they admitted it didn't work)... But at least I found it. <sigh>

In addition: The slider works better then before.

Before the slider snapped to 0% volume when my finger reached about 30 to 40% of the slider.
Now i can also slide the bar between these values.

Hi there,

I have the same problem.
Here's my story:
I bought my 8930G about a year ago.
3 months ago i decided to install windows 7 on my lappy eventhough i knew not everything would be supported.

My volume slider didnt work at first, but after just running my finger over it randomly it went into action.

Then my motherboard crashed.
I now have a new motherboard (which is suppost to be the same) but i am also unable to get my volume slider to work.

It's 4 months ago, did you get an update or solution?
Thanks!

Hi. I am not sure if this is still a problem for you, but when I installed Win 7 Ult 64 bit, I used this file -

LaunchManager_Dritek_v2.0.00_Vistax86x64_XPx86x64.zip

I installed it with the compatibility set for Vista with service pack 2 and my cine-dash-thing now works fine with the volume tracking correctly.

I hope this helps.

Has anone ever got this working correctly? If so, exactly which combination of driver and application software versions did you use?

The best I ever managed was that touching the endpoints of the volume slider would cause the volume to track up or down.

I ended up using Launch Manager 3.0.06, which I gather is the software that controls this. The last word I had from Acer was that I would be notified by email when a new driver was released, but I haven't heard anything and doubt that the driver is being developed.

Thanks.

Dear Acer Guy,

I have a problem with an Acer Aspire 6920. Here's what happened:

The notebook was functioning reliably for many months and used every day. Then one day it decided to not boot into Vista anymore. Instead it booted into the Acer Arcade Deluxe environment. Any attempt to exit Acer Arcade Deluxe would cause the notebook to immediately hiberate. In this state the notebook was already unusable because it was not possible to boot into Vista.

So Googling around I found the following page which matched by problem exactly: http://www.theacerguy.com/forum/topic/acer-arcade-deluxe-loading-on-startup-cant-get-to-windows

I followed the instructions to hold down the power key in order to do a hard reboot. The hard reboot worked but the following message appeared instead of Vista:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

At the point I suspected that maybe there's some sort of disk corruption. HOWEVER, during reboot then F2 no longer works to enter the BIOS. There seems to be no bios any more. So maybe this is why the Windows file cannot be found -- because the bios is missing?

So I looked around the Acer support site. The BIOS update utility seems to only work from a booted copy of Windows so it's no use for my problem since I can't boot or enter the BIOS.

What can I do?

Please help!

--
Simon

This is the best way I've found and it works perfectly on my Aspire 8920G.

Getting the CineDash Media Console and Launch Buttons working
If you have problems with either the CineDash Media Console or Launch buttons then you will be happy to hear that the solution for fixing these is easy!
The first thing that you will need to do is install the “Launch Manager” which can be downloaded off the Acer website. Go to http://www.acer.com and click the service support, then driver download. Go to your model. Download the Launch Manager here (hosted here) or go to the acer site and find it there. The filename should be “Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32×64_XPx32×64.zip” the version of Launch Manager under the Windows Vista operating system .This will get the Email, Web and Empowering Technology buttons working with their default settings. If you need to change what the buttons do, you can launch the application named “Launch Manager” in the start menu.
Uninstall any previous version of Launch Manager
The solution to my problem was to get the Launch Manager to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Unzip. Explore the new folder and right-click Setup.exe.
To do this go to the Launch Manager Install directory (C:\Program Files\Launch Manager ), right-click on “setup.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install. But don’t reboot yet!
Now locate and explore the freshly installed folder in your program files directory – (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager or C:\Program Files\Launch Manager depending on if you are running 64-bit or 32-bit)
right-click on “LManager.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install.
Reboot and enjoy properly synced volume, and fully functioning buttons.

Ever since I upgraded my system from Vista to Windows 7, my CineDash control panel isn't in sync with my computer volume anymore.
I can change the volume but it's not coherent.
Whether I turn it up or down, sometimes it does nothing, sometimes the opposite of what it's supposed to... etc...

I already tried getting the battery and cord out for a couple of minutes, but it doesn't help whatsoever.

I tried reinstalling the LaunchManager for Vista. But I'm not really that good with computers, I allready downloaded the driver, but now I don't really know what to do with it...

One thing you do have to know, is that my system is Dutch. So buttons/tasks or always different from the English.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem (cinedash volume control doesn't work properly on windows 7). However, I've succeeded in solving it. Here's how I did it:

1) uninstall launch manager
2) reboot
3) uninstall synaptics touchpad drivers
4) reboot
5) install launch manager from acer drivers support page for windows vista (I have win 7 home premium x64 - I installed drivers for win vista home premium x64)
6) reboot
7) install synaptics touchpad drivers from acer drivers support page for windows vista (same procedure as with launch manager)
8) reboot
9) now it should work as in windows vista

Important: - do not use any compatibility solutions, simply install it
- after every reboot let your computer load and start all your programs, then install drivers
- my laptop is 6935G

if anybody tries this procedure let me know your results please, good luck

Hello Acer Guy,

I have a Acer Aspire 6920 notebook and a few weeks ago, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and installed the recommended drivers... the problem that I'm experiencing is with the CineDash Media Console... the volume is the main problem and what I've noticed is that, the blue light which should appear as the volume is not shown (unless I swipe it with my finger of course) but even if I did, it doesn't seem to control the volume, i.e. it doesn't work...

Another problem that I'm facing is that, the buttons on the right hand side of the keyboard (which is the wireless & Bluetooth buttons) doesn't seem to work as well, once pressed, it doesn't perform its desired function but instead it increases and decreases the brightness of my screen...

When i installed the new OS, I had never faced these kind of problems, even with the previous OS (Windows Vista) up until a few days ago...

Please do me help me out, I don't want to reinstall Windows 7 again...

Awaiting for your response,
Cheers!

Just an update that I finally got a reply from Acer that they are waiting for an updated driver and will notify me when it's available.

In other words, there is a problem with the CineDash volume control under Windows 7 and Acer don't yet have a fix for it, so there's no point trying various versions, since none of them are likely to work.

Many programs these days seem to be quite happy to upgrade an installed version or to start an uninstall if it's needed. In fact, it's sometimes necessary to upgrade to avoid losing settings.

Of course, since I've been switching versions down as well as up, I should probably be more careful.

I may try 2.1.1.218 again, but it seems significantly different to the others I've tried so possibly isn't compatible with the 8920G.

Before you install a program it is highly advisable to un-install the version of the program that you are replacing. Failure to do so will often lead to the program NOT working properly.

I tried version 2.1.1.218 of my Acer 8920G. It didn't seem to work right. For example, the wireless key only ever showed a 'disabled' icon, whether the indicator light was on or off. In any event, te Cinedash volume control didn't work right. It still only changed the On-Screen Display if I touched the endpoints, then it tracked towards max or min.

The 'Program and Features' applet claimed I still had version 3.0.03 installed. This may have been because I installed it over that version. I may try installing it (or another version) again. I currently have version 3.0.01 installed ("Program&Features" agrees!).

Of course, it would help if I could get hold of a list of versions for each component, to check that I have a consistent set of files, but naturally Acer don't provide such a thing.

I did a Vista Ultimate to Win7 Ultimate upgrade on my Aspire 8920G this week using the Acer upgrade dvd. All went well except the CineDash volume control was very very slow working. I downloaded the Launch Manager application version 2.1.1.218 from the Acer website. After installaing this all is working fine.
To find the Launch Manager go to the Acer website/Service and Support/Driver Download. Select Notebook/Aspire/Aspire8940G. The Launch Manager is under the Application tab.
Hope this helps you.

Checked again that the Vista system using Synaptics Touchpad driver 10.2.4.1 and Launch Manager 2.0.05 works perfectly. Volume tracks the Cinedash 'slider' without error.

Win 7, using Touchpad 14.0.0.3 and Launch Manager 3.0.01 only works if I touch the endpoints.

It's now been 4 days since I reported it on the Acer customer help site and no-one has even replied yet. How many times do I have to update it before someone pays attention?

If someone has an 8920G running Windows 7 with a fully working Cinedash, can you tell me what version of Touchpad and Launch Manager you are using and I'll try it on my system.

Thanks.

I'm using synaptics touchpad driver 14.0.0.3 (W7) - the latest as far as I can see. Volume control doesn't work properly. I can get it to 'track' towards max or min by touching the end points, but moving over the middle section merely changes the blue lights.
