I bought a used Acer Aspire 5520 and reinstalled Vista Home Premium. Then had a problem with "camera no found" message when I clicked on "Crystal Eye Webcam". Spent hours searching the web and downloaded all of the recommended drivers but still no solution.

When conducting a full system virus scan I happened to notice the webcam light go on and saw the file address being checked by the virus scan at that time. This file contained one of the drivers I had downloaded which was the "Bison" driver.

After the scan I went into the file and sourced the "setup" facility for the driver. Clicked on this and all has been good since.

Hope this helps you!

@ideonaut - THANK YOU! I tried what you said and I have Windows 7...first I tried the XP service pack thing and it didn't work so I went back in and changed it to Windows 7 - voila! It works PERFECTLY! Not sure why it would just stop working - but so glad I read your comment and it's working now!! <3 Much love and appreciation!

I've seen this exact post on this site and it does not help me, but thanks anyway. I'm not using any messengers with my webcam, and I can't uninstall my camera driver because in order for my camera to be connected, my screen needs to be tilted down very far and I can barely see my screen.

Also, I don't think uninstalling/reinstalling the webcam driver would help my situation.

I did try that, but it was not functioning.

I guess I found the solution for the situation.
Please follow the order..

1. First uninstall any/all messenger you have (say skype, google-talk or yahoo-messenger). and then uninstall your camera driver by going to the device manager and uninstalling the Acer Crystal eye software.

Now RESTART YOUR PC...

2. Here be Careful...!

First again un-install your acer crystal eye software from the Device manager and then install the messenger first.

Restart your computer and EUREKA.... The camera works fine..

Remember this-- Never to have two messenger's using the camera at the same time been installed. This could be another reason why the skype says.. camera not found OR Camera already in use..

Cheers till next time this thing fails again

Hi, for a while now I have not been able to use my Acer Crystal Eye webcam. When I open the program, there is just a black screen. The green light indicator is not on, and when I close my screen, I can hear Window's sound for a device connect. When I open my screen again, I get the device disconnect sound. The webcam seems to work when the screen is tilted way down to view the very edge of the laptop. I'm thinking the problem has to do with a loose wire internally, but I was hoping there was something else I could try to see if it could be something else, because it's virtually impossible to fix that wire without paying an arm and a leg.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
-Tara

TRY THIS,,,,,

Power off and remove battery,
remove the screen cover to expose the camera. carefully unplug the wire that it is attached to the side of the camera board,(little white coupling) and re-insert. Replace cover - boot and things should be fine. Worked for my Acer Aspire 5740.

Update: I downloaded the latest Realtek drivers from their website and this seems to have solved the problem. The mic is working fine and there's no static noise - although I haven't yet hooked the laptop up to our mixer desk yet, so can't confirm 100% working yet.

Update: the humming noise is only there when i use the battery. Plugging in my Aspire to the mains removes it. However, the mic still has some static in its recordings and my voice is all crackly.

I have this same problem... and it's a real problem. I just bought my 6930G as a refurb through Amazon for use in our synagogue. However, everytime I connect it to our mixer desk I get horrible static type noise. When I try to record anyone speaking either through an external mic or using the internal one I get the same thing. If I switch off the screen, however, the noise disappears. I have put my ear to the screen next to the Acer logo and yes I do have a high pitched hum coming from there. I have updated the audio driver and thought that it had done the trick - the noise disappeared - but the next time I booted the maching up it just came back again. Please help. I contacted Acer but they wanted me to do a system restor (F10 from boot) but I've spent hours putting all the programmes and I need on it and don't want to face having to do it all again.

Before you start reinstalling drivers, try this:

Right click on the desktop icon for the Crystal Eye. Click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Under Compatibility Mode, check the box beside "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Click OK. Double click the desktop webcam icon and look for your own smiling face. (Then you can go back and turn off XP compatibility, and the camera will still work.)

Anyway, it worked for me with a blacked-out Crystal Eye on a 4530 Aspire running Vista. Good luck!

Hello Dmac47,

First I would confirm the settings in the MSN options and confirm that the crystal eye is actually chosen as the capture device for MSN.
Then I would install another program that uses camera and see if that program can pick up the camera. If that program does then I know there's a MSN configuration problem. I would recommend to uninstall and re-install the MSN software - Also to make sure you install a newer version.

I would then uninstall and re-install the Acer Crystal Eye....

Windows 7 Camera Driver(32-bit)

Then, I would check if there's not another application that is using the camera. Sometimes, systems tend to get picky : When one application uses a device like that, another can't use it at the same time. See if you don't have another program that makes use of the camera when you try to use MSN.

@Mr_M
There is something true with the 1% failure rate

I am having the same issue with the same model - what bugs me is that it was working for a very short while (2 days) and then it stopped working

I did even one picture from myself which excludes a manufacturing defect as it would not have worked at all..

Moreover I read about Crystal Eye healing, hopefully it will happen here aswell :)

I have found several drivers from multiple manufaturers for this model - from Suyin and Bison or are they the same?

Can somebody paste the "right" driver here? I have used the official Acer site

http://tinyurl.com/mfaakx

I would like to give it a last try after I reset the notebook to scratch.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I've since tried about a million different things, including totally nutjob stuff like deleting all my pictures from My Pictures / Shared Pictures.

I've also tried installing the drivers for Win 7 for both Chicony and Suyin.

I've tried installing legacy drivers.

I've tried installing legacy drivers as Admin. In XP Compatibility Mode. In Vista compatability mode.

I'm not getting anywhere. The webcam remains stubbornly not apparent in Device Manager. There's still no entry for Imaging Devices at all.

Hi all,

I upgraded my Timeline 5810TZ to Win 7, and just about everything works fine...except the webcam. I didn't even notice it for a week or two until a friend of mine tried to make a Skype video call to me from Costa Rica.

Since then, I've tried to upgrade drivers from the Acer site, but 1. I can't tell if I have the Suyin or Chicony webcam (tried both, no luck). 2. can't find anything in the device manager about my webcam--where the heck is it?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! This thing was working fine just a few weeks ago!

When i now put Skype Video Chat on, the cam is working again, although the picture is very dark. I am thinking this just must be a glitch with all crystal eye webcams, learn from this, and don't buy Acer products again, also tell Acer that you won't be buying from them again. Then maybe their tech staff will get off their bums and sort their dodgy software out!

hi
I bought an aspire one d 250 netbook with inbuilt crystal eye webcam 4 days ago. yesterday I installed skype on it. When i tried to test the video , skype said it couldn't find a webcam. When i did an online webcam test, it also couldn't find a cam. Downloaded drivers, but, as also mentioned by previous posters, can't run them because I have to plug in the cam...
I was hopiing the solution from turtledove would help, but unfortunately, there is no webcam in the device manager, not as an imaging device nor as an unknown usb controller.

i'm beginning to fear this is a hardware failure; Or are there any other ways to fix this? thanx!

Aaay,

After running all the drivers under Vista compatibility on the newly installed Windows 7 64bit OS, my laptop will not

- Detect the Crystal Eye Cam (I went through the Device Manager)

- Effectivly control the volume using the Volume Control Touchpad (blue lights). The volume goes up and down, but by its minnimum increments, not by the increments shown by the LEDs on the touchpad.

Thank you for your help :-)

Acer's most effective support is when you request to speak to a supervisor or to be elevated. You may have to hold for a bit longer but you'll get someone much more competent on the phone. Also, Acer owns Gateway so the person probably just got mixed up.

Thanks techiediva.

I've been communicating with Acer's support at the sametime and I really feel like they are fighting me. They've sent me 7 emails of the most basic troubleshooting and sometimes nonsense. And have'nt once aknowlegde what I said about the monitor.
In this last one they've actually gone and refered me to Gateway's support site! WTF ya know, I thought I was talking to Acer!
Sigh....I'm about ready to give up. I know what the problem might be, you have guessed it, as well as the others users I found on Google with the same problem. Why does it seem Acer's support is the most computer illiterate of us all?

inverter converts DC to AC to power the CCFL in the lcd.

can sometimes whine and cause other sorts of interference.

place your ear at the bottom center of the screen where the logo is. you might here a slight high pitched whine.

if you do, most likely will need it replaced.
