I'm so happy to be making the 40th post regarding 'solutions' instead of posting another one of the countless 'problems' experienced by Acer users! I offer this in thanks for all the work Acer Guy has put into this blog/forum.

AND THE SOLUTION IS..........

Turn off User Account Control!

That's it!

After getting my 5920G back yesterday (then ringing up to have the accessories such as the power adapter returned to me as well (duh!) and receiving them today) I plugged it in and went about the post-service installation (thank-you Acer for replacing the faulty thermal module and melted case/cover/bracket. As you guessed, the installation bar was stuck at process 15 of 16 eRecovery Solution. After several reboots and just putting up with it until I'd googled and searched and read and fretted, the problem persisted. On each reboot the same unfinished process pretended to be processing.

Then I read the last post at the following thread:

http://www.theacerguy.com/forum/topic/7720g-erecovery-problem

robert777 (lucky 7s) said "It must have to do with permissions required to write to the pqservice partition." which got me actually believing that there might be a solution, after all, it made simple sense. His solution was going to be my last ditch effort as it looked like a pretty damn good solution but wasn't perfect. I was just about to do it when instead of going into the Acer/ALaunch folder, I went into the Acer/Empowering Technology/eRecovery folder (as part of eR had already installed). I opened the English help file and read this:

"Acer eRecovery Management requires a specific hard disk partitioning structure to function. If the system detects that the hard disk does not use this structure, Acer eRecovery Management functionality will be disabled."

...and immediately started feeling sorry for all the people messing around with the partitions. I then went to the 'notes' and read this:

"Acer eRecovery Management can only be started when a user has administrator privileges."

I put two and two together, which for one of the rare times with my Acer Aspire 5920G equalled 4. I turned off User Account Control, rebooted the computer, the installation went from process 15 eRecovery to 16 clean-up and presto, problem solvered.

Now if anyone can help me figure out a seemingly infinite Acer Arcade Deluxe update issue, why my Bluray drive picks and chooses the Bluray DVDs it plays (the two are related I think) and how to make the version of Media Centre in the 'normal Windows boot mode' congruent with the version that loads when you boot in 'Media Centre mode' (if you read the book you'll know there is a trick that allows you to boot the pc cold into a media mode where the only application running and usable is Media Centre (thereby dedicating resources to it) so you can use your 5920G as a media box, like a portable dvd player plus) then after the 3 years of persistence I've given my 5920G I will finally be a happy camper.

Oh one other thing though, those DVB-T aerials are USELESS! Why consumer watchdog authorities have never come down on computer companies for their devices' repeated failures to meet 'fitness for purpose' standards I'll never know! (for the Australian readers out there). And I need a replacement adapter that goes between my tv tuner card and a tv aerial cable too. Think I would get a replacement one of those from Acer? Think again.

Anyways, spread the word! Here's to hoping it's the same solution for this type of problem for everyone.

All sorted ... using VERBATIM discs as suggested on ACER website >>> What can I do when the verification of created Recovery DVD fails?

During the verification of the Recovery CDs or DVDs, created from Acer eRecovery Management, the process stops with an error. This means the created CD or DVD is not a reliable copy, and it is recommended to recreate the media.

SYMPTOMS
The displayed error codes are: 9102, 9105, 9106, 9201, 9410 and 9411. Please note that problem codes not mentioned in this list may require different solutions than the one listed below.

This problem only occurs on system with Acer eRecovery Management version 4 and later.

CAUSE
The error codes indicate that one or more files on the created CD or DVD are not identical to the source files on the hard drive.

RESOLUTION
When one of these error codes show during the verification stage, try to recreate the disc again. If it fails again, we strongly recommend the use of well-known brand media, like TDK, Sony or Verbatim, to reduce the risk of these verification issues <<<

Hi, looking for advice on creating eRecovery DVDs on FERRARI One (Windows 7 64bit). Bought USB dvd writer LG GE20NU11 from Amazon. Using FujiFilm DVD-R. eRecovery burns & verifies 1st DVD ok; it burns 2nd DVD ok but fails to verify (hangs at 4%) with error code 0x9411. Does anyone have any experience/ideas please? Thanks. Cannot seem to find GE20NU11 on LG website which worries me (only find GE20NU10 or GE20LU10). Am trying to check latest firmware for writer .,.. it says ROM ver CN01 on underside label. Have seen advice to slow burn speed down (but do not know how to do that within eRecovery); also to try differing media (DVDs CDs). Any advice gratefully received. Thanks again

Hey guys,
I've had an Aspire M5201 for over a year now, initialy it would play Blu Ray disks fine, however it now doesnt like playing them.

I used to use Acer Arcade Live and PlayMovie but thos wont open on my PC anymore

The drive detects that there is a BR disk in but the program wont open.

I've checked eRecovery but I can't find the software on there (looked for Acer Arcade Live and Deluxe)

Does anyone have a link so I can re-download them?
(I've tried downloading a new eRecovery but that didnt have the program either =/..)

Thanks for any help

This happened with my Acer Aspire 5520 with Windows Vista Home Premium.

The solution to get past the eRecovery installation step was to kill the process Alaunchclient.exe, go to that file which is located in c:\acer\alaunch\ and set the properties of alaunch.exe and alaunchclient.exe so that they both run as administrator. Launch alaunchclient.exe right there, and it should finish up pretty quickly. It must have to do with permissions required to write to the pqservice partition.

In detail:
1) navigate to c:\acer\alaunch
2) right click alaunch.exe, select properties
3) click compatability tab
4) check the box that says run as administrator
5) repeat for alaunchclient.exe

Good luck.

Wow new laptop, now that is what I call a result!

I've just been going through nightmares with erecovery on a hard drive that is getting iffy. The system restore partition is all well and good on good drives. Of course dug out the cds made when the laptop first bought (carefully stored in a box), blam! image no good:( I wish manufacturers would stick a proper recovery disc in the box. Mind you compared to some, Acer's recovery is pretty good. The last emachine I looked at was awful.

Thankfully I had managed to copy the XP i386 folder so I managed to make a working operating system disc from that (and there were even one or two Acer gotcha's with that!).

I'm learning not to trust recovery discs at all.

Now all I've got to do, as per my other post is find a drive that this 1640 will accept!

Hi there

Sorry for the long post - haven't found my specific problem anywhere. Basically my problem is that:
1. The Acer eRecovery program keeps starting (preventing access to safe mode)
2. I'm getting a stop error when I try and boot from a CD

After my Acer Aspire One D150 (XP Home,Service Pack 2) became infected I decided for a fresh start (my CPU was stuck on 100% and I no amount of tinkering/virus-checking could change this).

I used eRecovery Management and selected the 'Restore system to factory default' option. The netbook restarted and returned to the very same options page. This keeps happening everytime I restart the computer or select one of the options: 1. Restore system to factory default; 2. Restore system from user's backup; or 3. Exit.

In other words, eRecovery automatically restarts no matter what. I've even tried to go into safe mode and still the eRecovery option page appears (in safe mode). It's caught in a loop.

I've since tried to boot from my recovery disk (and) from a Windows XP installation disk (using an optical drive). Both times I've been met with a 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc0000034, 0x000000. 0x000000) error. (full error message at the bottom of my note)

I think this might have something to do with the boot or hard drive drivers becoming infected, corrupt or disabled - but I can't figure out how to remedy this. (i.e I can't get into safe mode and can't do a clean re-install).

Can i disable or bypass eRecovery and go into safe mode without access to the command prompt? Any ideas? Here's hoping - I've only had my netbook for two weeks.

Here's the error message in full:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc0000034, 0x000000. 0x000000)

I had the same problem here.

Recovery hangs on step 11 of 12?

Step 11 of 12 is eRecovery installation (step 12 is cleanup), it looks for second partition (DATA), if you don't have it (did you make only one partition instead of the original two?) it hangs....

The 7720g I am trying to fix is driving me crazy... the one described here was only one of many!!!

As I said on the other topic dedicated to 7720g recovery problem, I am having lots of problems during recovery process, that's the story:

One week ago a friend brought me his son's 7720g (expired warranty) to recover because of problems.

Once I found recovery procedure with alt+f10 I thought the work could be quickly done... no way!

1st attempt: recovery failed with black screen after (or during) driver installation procedure. No life signs for hours. Once turned off and restarted, it stopped loading on vista's boot procedure.

2nd attempt: Disk diagnosis found some damaged sectors on hdd. I made an image of recovery partition and a restore on a fresh new disk. Installation proceeded and hanged on step 11 of 12 of acer suite installation. Problem was 2nd partition not present.

3rd attempt: Full recovery achieved, installed sp1 and sp2... reboot... machine dead and again no life signs.

Also tried a full memory test with a linux live cd, no problems found.

Restarted recovery procedure again and again... now it stops on driver installation just like my first attempt.

DVD's are highly preferred to CD's for recovery disk creation. You can always download the latest version of eRecovery from Acer's website if you're having problems with the one on your system.

@Judith: ALT+F10 will not create an external backup, it's for restoring. The only way I know is by burning from eRecovery running inside the OS.

By the way, if you can run the Factory Default from ALT+F10, then you may not need the CDs backup as long as the partition is exists.

Could you please explain that in further detail? How will alt-f10 create an external backup?

alt-f10 will recover from the hard drive partition. no cd's or dvd's required.

i always recommend alt-f10 before using the cd's.

It was on a desk while burning. I haven't tried DVDs, but I heard some complaints that the process failed with DVDs too. I'm planning on going out and getting some to try with, I'm just not very keen on the idea of wasting them. Is there any other way to handle this problem, if DVDs don't work?

Have you tried DVD instead? it will only use 2 DVDs.

One thing to note, place your laptop on the flat table/place when burning.

I just got a new Acer 6920G. I tried immediately to use its erecovery to back up the factory default onto CD, since the computer comes with none of its own backup. On the 12th CD (out of 16), I got an error message from windows saying that the erecovery program had "stopped working" and had to shut down. Upon restarting, I found that I would have to start burning CDs all over again, and that I have wasted 12 already due to this error.

I researched this problem a little and found that it seems to be a common occurrence, but I have not yet found any solutions. I do not want to waste any more CDs or DVDs on this, but I desperately want my computer backed up as soon as possible. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

How does not get the recovery CDs?
I work for a company and all the Acer laptops have been erased so did the recovery partition.
I found the cd's that you can purchase for recovery. Is there any way to download these recovery cd/dvds?
I have quite a number of different laptops to recover.

Thanks,

Ozz.

could be a bad hard drive, but really sounds like a virus. try scanning with an online virus scanner.

Hi,

My son has an Acer Aspire 6920G which is about six months old. All has been working fine until yesterday when he booted it up and the fingerprint reader wasn't operational.

It doesn't appear anywhere in the start menu, but it is there in "Programs and Features" in Control Panel, but when it is selected it reports that there is a problem and that it can't locate the software, BUT the program does appear to be there in Program Files/Acer.

Also, although there are shortcuts in the start menu for Acer eData Security Management and Acer eRecovery Management the programms do not appear to be there - he gets an error message when either of these are clicked on.

I've downloaded and installed the Acer eData Security Management for this model from the official Acer web-site.

I've also downloaded and the eRecovery management software but when I try to install that i get an error message "eRecovery can not be intalled -6. SoftwareDisc".

Finally, this also caused all shortcuts to one of his games (Sims3) to disappear, and it also disappeared from the Games folder on the start menu, but the programme is there and runs fine if he double-clicks on the .exe

H The laptop is fully protected with Kaspersky and it does not report any problems.

I would really welcome any ideas or suggestions at this point because I am lost as to what to do next.

Thanks in advance
