Personally, I wouldnt bother upgrading to be honest. the easiest upgrade you could do would be the RAM. However with 4GB already, unless your running a 64Bit version of windows then its pointless.
Furthermore, even budget RAM (2x4GB) wouldnt be "cheap".
Considering you can get a nice spec i3 sandygate machine for sub £400 I would just save your pennies :)

Let me start by saying I love my little machine.

But I reckon it can handle more and I'm thinking of upgrading it as much as I can to run some better games (it can handle MW2 nay problemo)

Currently has Intel Dual Core T4300 @2.1GHz, 4GB memory and Radeon HD4570 512MB graphics card. It runs on a Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset on Windows 7 Premium.

Can anyone tell me what the max specs I could upgrade to are? Ideally I wouldn't mind getting up to 3Ghz processor and 8GB ram but I'm so inane I'm unsure how to check?

On a side note, just how easy/ very difficult is it to upgrade on a laptop?

Thanks for anything anyone can give!

Hello all.

I've repaired and upgraded enough machines in my life, but upgrading the RAM on this Aspire Z510x or Z310x has me completely stumped.

It's an all-in-one desktop with touchscreen and I can't figure out how to get in to upgrade the ram, dvd, or harddrive.

There are no access panels on the back cover, no screws I can see, and taking the 3 screws out to remove the back stand really gets me no closer. I don't simply want to start prying and yanking without some sort of indication that this is correct, but I've tried tugging, sliding and what not.

I'm not worried about the warranty, but would rather not break it.

Anyone know how to get into this thing? I'm sure others must also be looking, or will do so in the future for upgrades/repairs.

I even took it to best buy, but the guy said they send it out for upgrades and would take 3-8 weeks and about $400. I'll risk breaking it at that cost.

FYI, it's a pretty decent box, with the additional VGA port for dual screen (plug and away it went, awesome!) and eSATA connector it was full of pleasant surprises. I just have to get in the 8GB.

Thanks
-Jim

hi everyone, i read on the forum that it is possible to upgrade the processor on these laptops with a better model, i was wondering what else you can upgrade on the laptop, such as the graphics card, and if it would be worth the cost and effort to do so? would i be better just saving up for a whole new laptop?

The hardware will upgrade fine. You may have to find a few drivers yourself or get Windows to download and install them for you. The Acer Empowering Technology Programs are optional for the operation of your computer. The main one you would want would be the launch manager. It should be available for Windows 7.

However, based on the age of your unit you would see a noticeable performance increase in even browsing the web with a new computer. It would be something to think about as the upgrade of Windows 7 Home Premium costs $129.96 Cdn at retail.

Hi
I have an Aspire 9300 running Vista which I was thinking about upgrading to Win7. The Win7 upgrade advisor confirm the system could run Win 7 but advises that a lot of Acer products will no longer work.

Does anyone know what adverse effects upgrading from Vista to Win7 may have on this model of laptop?
Has anyone already upgrade?

Many thanks

Hi,

I've got an old Acer Extensa 5620 Laptop and unfortunately I can't afford to buy a new one, so I just want to upgrade it a bit. I already added 4gb of ram of which i can only use about 3 since i run vista 32.

Current specs:
CPU intel Core 2 Duo T5450
GPU ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400XT.

Is it possible to change the components to i.e.:

CPU intel T9600 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=35563

GPU ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3650.8839.0.html

???

I found a couple of links online but by now they must be outdated.

In case this upgrade is possible, can I run windows 7 64 bit on the laptop?

Thanks for the help and any suggestions.

Well, I see this topic has been dead for about a year, but I need to revive it - I also have an Aspire T180, but mine has a 2 GHz Sempron. I'd like to upgrade it to an Athalon X2, but I'm unsure about what processor speeds the Motherboard (HT2000?) can support.

Can anyone help a guy out with this?

Thanx!

Hi,

From the few that have passed my workbench in the repair center the CPU is not soldered to the mainboard for that model, and Peter is quite right core 2 duo with 667Mhz FSB should work

Since I don't have one infront of me and google wasn't a big help...

But it *appears* to be a socket P processor. Based on the chipset a core 2 duo with a 667Mhz FSB *should* work.

THEN AGAIN....

There's no way for me to know if the CPU is soldered onto the motherboard. That would be quite rare but I have seen it.

I have a 2350 with only 256 mb memory. The chip is DDR 333 CL2.5 PC2700.
Q1. Would upgrade to 512 make a big difference to its speed? My thinking is that it is now quite an old machine and is only used for running MYOB, so overspending on memory that won't be fully utilised will be wasteful, so I'm looking at the smaller upgrade before I consider a 1GB upgrade, which I'm sure will do the trick.

Q2. Am I able to use any of these memory chips in this machine?
______________DDR2 667
______________DDR2 667/533
______________DDR 400/333
______________2100 266

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge

I've actually managed to solve it myself now! The hard drive could not be seen at all, so i downloaded the latest version of the bios from the Acer website, but as my hard drive could not be seen i could not boot windows from there to run winphlash! i had to launch xp off a usb stick, then run winphlash in there to flash the BIOS to the latest one i downloaded and hey presto when i rebooted the computer it worked fine!

My Acer Aspire 6920G was working no problems one day then the next it did not boot (an error message appeared saying it could not find an operating system) after first thinking the hard drive was busted i replaced it with a new one but it could not see the new hard drive either, so after a diagnostic it turns out my laptop doesnt seem to be able to find any hard drives! I read somewhere on the net that by changing the hard drive controller settings in the BIOS this problem can be sorted, however my current BIOS does not give me the options to change hard drive controller settings! is there a BIOS upgrade i can apply that gives me these options? or is there perhaps another solution to this problem?

thanks :)

My Acer notebook 4920 came with Windows Vista Home Premium when I bought it about 2 years ago. Three months ago, I upgraded it to Windows 7 and it seems I cannot access the Acer Arcade Instant-On. I checked on the OEM partition where the Instant-On is located and it is still intact. Everytime I press the Arcade Man button when my computer is off, the laptop just boots into Windows 7. Is there a solution present that can help me access the Arcade Instant-on everytime I press the Arcade man button. I know that performing recovery will solve it but I do not want to go back to Vista anymore. Thanks and good day!

I did an upgrade with the CD key they sent. (no format). The upgrade package, also comes with extra drivers, and some software like powerdvd. Most of the software that was there on vista still worked on 7 for me, although I did experience some issues (see my article).

Okay fine. Removed Intel Pro - had to use an uninstaller but it went. Insert Acer upgrade disc which then tells me the laptop Acer Aspire 5735 is not supported and goes on about a clean install and the website etc. This despite the Acer website saying the machine is upgradable and them sending me the discs (£14...)
What is going on - does anyone have any ideas!!?

it is a utility to help you manage your wireless card. not necessarily needed. If you want it back you can always download it from intel.com

more than likely, W7 will have the driver for your wireless card built in and windows can manage your wireless card so the proset will not be needed.
