Hello, I've had problems with my Acer's wifi since I got it, it detects (and connects to) most wifi signals in the area, just not mine. Incidentally, I just came home for vacations and the wifi set up here doesn't detect either. Now I've played around with settings on my wifi router- changing the security encryption types and other settings but that hasn't helped. I use an Alfa rtl8187 to connect to wifi, but I'd really like to use the built in one.
The two routers I've used are TP-Link and Linksys, if I remember right. Also, once I installed windows 7, and the problem did exist there. For some reason I killed that windows, but have recently installed 7 again, and it doesn't work anymore. It was probably a different version back then, but it was too long ago to remember.

ACER ASPIRE ONE aoa 110 – ab running Linux
The first I bought I had to take back because it did not boot. The replacement had a battery failure after 10 months. PC World said batteries only a six month guarantee so I bought a new battery. It still didn’t work although it shows as having power. Wi-Fi still working.

Ran the recovery disk to restore to factory settings – the result the Wi-Fi does not work and connection manager only says ‘Lan’.
So no Wi-Fi and no Power. Feeling very frustrated and seriously let down. Any ideas?

Updating the firmware on the router itself, available from linksys, and the driver to the wireless card just may fix the issues you're having. It's well worth trying as it's free.

I have testing with 3 unit of acer pc. The setup environment is 1 access point with bgn capability. And 3 unit is connected to the access point.

using wireless N(default)
someunit having poor wireless performance. Sometimes good, sometimes not. Event sometimes not connected to the access point. Frustrating.

using wireless G
still having isses. High ping rate and request time out when making ping to gateway.

using wireless B
Wow, performance become better. no more time out. Ping less then 10ms. And number of request time out reduce dramatically.

From above 3 result. I would suggest that either you force your wireless to B or buy other wireless adpater.

I have upgraded mine with TL-60.
- sometime it fails to boot on battery, it needs to be power cycled several times
- under load (2 instances of K7burn) it will overheat and shut down. it has enough juice in VRMs to feed it but the cooling is inadequate.
- so I modified my kernel to replace ACPI table with my own that only goes between 800, 1000 and 1200MHz. even 1600MHz is too much at full load.
- it uses less power and lasts longer at 800MHz so this is nice ;-)

I've had a few problems with my parnter's acer and after a clown masquerading as a computer repair guy had hold of it, the wifi seems to have packed up.
The repair guy swears it's not him, but then he also swears the mysterious missing 2Gb of memory is nothing to do with him either.
But anyway...
Device manager claims the card is there (Intel Pro 3945ABG), and working normally (yes, I know), but when you go into vista (yes I know ok) and start up networking, it claims that the wifi is switched off.
Problem is when I push the wireless button on the keyboard, the screen displays "no device".

Is there another way to start the wireless on this model? Alternatively how does the wireless card connect up to the button? Presumably even if I replace the card I still need to connect up to this control?

-no, it will overheat with a faster cpu. you can downclock it, but then what is the point.

-no, it will most likely not work with intel cards

-no, have not seen a larger battery for it.

Hi, i recently bought Acer Ferrari One and was really impressed with this machine. But i have some questions about hardware...
I want to replace L310 CPU with something more powerful and feature-full (in l310 there is no cpu scaling function, for example) - something like TL-60, or, more preferably, TL-62 (i think better cpus is unsuitable because of cooling in ferrari one)
I know that this is possible. Do i need to buy anything more than just CPU? Can stock acer ferrari cooling system handle TL-62?
Basically i will use 2.10 GHz power only when playing or compiling something (hello Linux users!), for other tasks such as browsing and IM i will use 1ghz mode (or less if it possible :D) - i think power consumption of TL-62 in 1ghz mode will be close to L310, since both are notebook processors...
Another question is about intel wifi/wimax adapter, intel 6250. Will it work with AMD-based pc?
Wimax will work, but wifi... I do not know.
And well, yes, battery. Can stock battery (info shows 4418 mAh) which works ~2hrs can be replaced with something more long-playing?
Thanks, and sorry for my poor english.

I wanted to add my $.02 also.

I purchased a 3610 and was also experiencing very strange connection issues on my G network. I was able to get an external adapter to work just fine, I tried all the different drivers available from Acer and even upgraded the firmware on my router but still experienced dropped connections and horrible/non-existent browsing capabilities.

Pretty much gave up and returned the Revo for another one only to discover it wasn't a 'faulty' network adapter as it was having the same issues.

Read the above post about the different channels so I switched my router from Auto to 11 (didn't work), 10 (didn't work) but finally channel 9 did the trick!

Gonna go through the other channels and run through some speed tests to see if any are faster, but just wanted to point this out as I couldn't find this addressed anywhere else on the web.

I assume this is about laptops internal wifi?
Have you tried with external usb wifi card?

Is the warranty still void? If it is, you should take the laptop to warranty service because there might be some issues with the wifi card or wifi antenna, loose connection or bad wifi card.

Greetings from a complete newbie to netbooks. If you permit me,I would like to enlist your help with troubleshooting the wifi connectivity of my partner´s netbook. I have little information as we are 7000 miles apart and the wifi was supposed to be our medium of contact  , but I will tell you what I know :

1. The AOD250 works perfectly with normal broadband.
2. It sees the available networks, but when trying to use one ,it returns the message of low signal strength
3. It has been tested in 2 or 3 different geographic locations with different routers all the same result.
4. In the open air with line of sight to where the common router is located same result.
5. he is using XP
6. other devices work fine from the same router, although not exactly in the same location.(boat marina)

I wonder if I could ask you to throw out some ideas as to where to look . He has had an IT guy look at the thing, but even he is scratching his head. I did look at other wifi connectivity issues on this forum, but none seem to relate to this model/problem.Many, many thanks in advance for your help .

Hi

I need to replace the wifi card in my Acer 7920G to take advantage of my wireless n router, I have tried a number of different cards but although they are recognised and drivers install automatically in Windows 7 they cannot be enabled, one of the cards prevened the 7620G from booting. Which wifi cards are on Acer's whitelist?

I had the same problem with mine.. I found out that the wireless card inside is horrible for signal strenght. Since there is no external antennae the signal is weak.

The fix was to purchase a cheap USB N wireless adapter. Once I did that, I am happily streaming movies and podcasts on my 52" Sony LCD.

It wasn't what I wanted to do - go buy another wireless adapter. But it was worth the purchase. No more frustrations.

most likely you have the atheros wireless card. It supports N @ 2.4GHz, but does not support 5GHz. which is why you only see 1 "band".

as for connection issues, try no encryption and see if it connects. if it does, tweak the WPA settings to see if you can get the connection to remain stable.

also try a different channel/sub-channel to see if that helps, also don't rule out 20MHz/40MHz bonding issues.

Okay fine. Removed Intel Pro - had to use an uninstaller but it went. Insert Acer upgrade disc which then tells me the laptop Acer Aspire 5735 is not supported and goes on about a clean install and the website etc. This despite the Acer website saying the machine is upgradable and them sending me the discs (£14...)
What is going on - does anyone have any ideas!!?

it is a utility to help you manage your wireless card. not necessarily needed. If you want it back you can always download it from intel.com

more than likely, W7 will have the driver for your wireless card built in and windows can manage your wireless card so the proset will not be needed.

I have new out of the box today the 5738DZG with Win 7. It has Atheros AR5B93 wifi. Driver is 8.0.0.171. Tried to connect to 3Com Office Connect on wifi - no luck. I have to use WPA-PSK set up as WPA-Personal and TKIP (to match router). I can see my network fine, but when I try to connect it starts then hangs saying 'attempting to authenticate'.

I've tried many things. By using wired ethernet I got all Windows updates, tried new Atheros update, rolled it back, downloaded another 800171 from Acer. Zippo. The only one bit of luck I had was sticking the IP address of my router into Wireless Connection Properties>IP Protocol V4>Properties>general>advanced. Connected until I next started up. So it can be done but it never worked afterwards.

When I've looked at the Properties of the IP Protocol V4 - it does look as it is looking at a totally different IP? But I can't get it to talk to my router.

I'm not technical - any ideas short of sending the PC back - help! Please!

I am finding out that the 11.6" aspire one (AO751H) is not a model many tweak. I am having WIFI issues in regards to upgrading to an intel 5300 pci-e card. All I want to know is if anyone out there has successfully upgraded the internal wifi card on an AO751H. And if you have, how did you and what card did you use?

Ok, so the intel utility is telling me that the radio is on. When booting up, the computer POSTs fine, everything seems perfect except for the fact that it just cannot detect networks. This has to be an antenna issue, but there is no literature or anything around that explains anything about antennas and if the card actually can function with just two. The only thing I can think of is to call Intel, but I know that will prove fruitless...

I have posted pictures on this forum if you want to take a look at them. It will give you a better idea of whats goings on:

ok i'll give it a try. Also, wat configuration should the antennas be in? There is a 1, 2, and 3 input on the card, but only two antennas in my unit. There is one white and one black antenna wire. Is there only one order with which to hook the antennas up? I tried putting the black wire in input 1, the white wire in input 2, and vise versa, but no luck...

use the intel utility to make sure the cards radio is turned on. if it is, might be a bad card.
