Hello, this thing is driving me nuts! any help highly apreciated.

My Extensa 5220 came with Win Vista, so I did a partition to install Win XP, when using XP everything worked fine until y switched the external monitor to be the main screen, after that the default monitor didn't work anymore in XP, but it works fine in Vista.

I have tried re-installing the drivers, then formating the XP partition and re-installing XP, but the problem remains.

Please Lord have mercy!!! :D

Hello speedmaster,

Please back up all your data to external storage. Then, restart you laptop to the Acer Logo screen and keep pressing 'ALT & F10' together continuosly - Your machine should then go to the recovery setup. Then, you should be able to restore it by following the on-screen instuctions. Just note, that the restore will wipe everything you have installed on the "C" partition.

I've had it maybe 18 months. We got the 8.9" model w/ XP, 120GB HD and 1GB of RAM. I keep the firewall on, and careful, and run AVG. But as was inevitable, the kids got something on there that managed to mess it up. Now I can't get it to see any WiFi network and when it boots Windows complains about missing two DLLs that I've never heard of before. Google turns up nothing on them.

What I think I would like to do is restore Windows XP to its original state, but of course there's no Windows media and no optical drive. I could boot Ubuntu on a flash drive and install from there, but if not too much trouble/expense I would like to get XP back on there.

Is there a hidden partition or something like that with XP on it? Any other tips, words of wisdom, or links to steps?

Thanks VERY much in advance!

You might check as see what the ROUTER is set for. B/g/n and what is the XP wifi setting.

I assume this is about laptops internal wifi?
Have you tried with external usb wifi card?

Is the warranty still void? If it is, you should take the laptop to warranty service because there might be some issues with the wifi card or wifi antenna, loose connection or bad wifi card.

Greetings from a complete newbie to netbooks. If you permit me,I would like to enlist your help with troubleshooting the wifi connectivity of my partner´s netbook. I have little information as we are 7000 miles apart and the wifi was supposed to be our medium of contact  , but I will tell you what I know :

1. The AOD250 works perfectly with normal broadband.
2. It sees the available networks, but when trying to use one ,it returns the message of low signal strength
3. It has been tested in 2 or 3 different geographic locations with different routers all the same result.
4. In the open air with line of sight to where the common router is located same result.
5. he is using XP
6. other devices work fine from the same router, although not exactly in the same location.(boat marina)

I wonder if I could ask you to throw out some ideas as to where to look . He has had an IT guy look at the thing, but even he is scratching his head. I did look at other wifi connectivity issues on this forum, but none seem to relate to this model/problem.Many, many thanks in advance for your help .

check for lan and chipset driver updates, bios updates for compatibility. may want to reinstall W7 instead of XP.

on an Acer 8471 downgrade to XP Pro:

Completely intermittent loss of local network connection (message says network cable unplugged)

To fix I must disable the 'local area connection' then enable it again.

Tried various cables, modems & tested other computers with with same, they do not lose their connection.

This may not happen at all one day, and a dozen times the next day. As far as I can tell, software running at the time does not influence the behaviour.

A possibly related glitch is, I must 'end now' windows explorer when I power down the system (even if I had not had explorer open)

I feel there is some problem with my XP install, but thought I'd ask and see if there was an issue with the Acer 8471, before I do a reload.

Thanks.

Hi there

Sorry for the long post - haven't found my specific problem anywhere. Basically my problem is that:
1. The Acer eRecovery program keeps starting (preventing access to safe mode)
2. I'm getting a stop error when I try and boot from a CD

After my Acer Aspire One D150 (XP Home,Service Pack 2) became infected I decided for a fresh start (my CPU was stuck on 100% and I no amount of tinkering/virus-checking could change this).

I used eRecovery Management and selected the 'Restore system to factory default' option. The netbook restarted and returned to the very same options page. This keeps happening everytime I restart the computer or select one of the options: 1. Restore system to factory default; 2. Restore system from user's backup; or 3. Exit.

In other words, eRecovery automatically restarts no matter what. I've even tried to go into safe mode and still the eRecovery option page appears (in safe mode). It's caught in a loop.

I've since tried to boot from my recovery disk (and) from a Windows XP installation disk (using an optical drive). Both times I've been met with a 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc0000034, 0x000000. 0x000000) error. (full error message at the bottom of my note)

I think this might have something to do with the boot or hard drive drivers becoming infected, corrupt or disabled - but I can't figure out how to remedy this. (i.e I can't get into safe mode and can't do a clean re-install).

Can i disable or bypass eRecovery and go into safe mode without access to the command prompt? Any ideas? Here's hoping - I've only had my netbook for two weeks.

Here's the error message in full:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc0000034, 0x000000. 0x000000)

The more I use Windows 7 and vista the more I relize I just cant overlook how annoying and useless the new features are to me and how much i miss some of the old ones.

So I've decied to go back to XP, but question is for a 5920G, is there any benefit in going 64bit xp? Is there even a 64 bit drivers pack for 64 bit xp?

If I just go back to regular xp 32 bit, will I loose any functionality or performance?

I just found one site with the drivers for xp, but I assume you forfeit the right to updates if you go xp as your pretty much stuck with whats on this site?

http://www.getpcmemory.com/drivers/download-acer-aspire-5920-5920g-windows-xp-drivers/

If anyone has a xp all in one pack for the 5920G would be awesome. Also if anyone has tested what works the fastest for xp. Is that above site i posted really it?

I would think Im not the first person seeking a optimally running 5290g on xp.

This is the best way I've found and it works perfectly on my Aspire 8920G.

Getting the CineDash Media Console and Launch Buttons working
If you have problems with either the CineDash Media Console or Launch buttons then you will be happy to hear that the solution for fixing these is easy!
The first thing that you will need to do is install the “Launch Manager” which can be downloaded off the Acer website. Go to http://www.acer.com and click the service support, then driver download. Go to your model. Download the Launch Manager here (hosted here) or go to the acer site and find it there. The filename should be “Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32×64_XPx32×64.zip” the version of Launch Manager under the Windows Vista operating system .This will get the Email, Web and Empowering Technology buttons working with their default settings. If you need to change what the buttons do, you can launch the application named “Launch Manager” in the start menu.
Uninstall any previous version of Launch Manager
The solution to my problem was to get the Launch Manager to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Unzip. Explore the new folder and right-click Setup.exe.
To do this go to the Launch Manager Install directory (C:\Program Files\Launch Manager ), right-click on “setup.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install. But don’t reboot yet!
Now locate and explore the freshly installed folder in your program files directory – (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager or C:\Program Files\Launch Manager depending on if you are running 64-bit or 32-bit)
right-click on “LManager.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install.
Reboot and enjoy properly synced volume, and fully functioning buttons.

I have an Acer TravelMate 4720 that has been completely formatted. I don't have the restore CD, but I do have an original XP Pro CD.

While trying to set up XP Pro on the system, it says it can not find any hard drives. I see that I might need to install a SATA driver, but can't get that working either. Most of the driver install says I need a floppy disk to use while installing Windows and pressing F6. The TravelMate does not have a floppy drive. I've tried from a USB flash drive and a CD as alternatives, but setup can't find those files either..

I was able to install Ubuntu with no problems on the computer, and was hoping I could just install XP Pro over that, but no luck with that either!

Is there something I'm missing?? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

I've just bought a brand new ACER Extensa 7630:

Whatever the OS on the laptop HD is (Vista business then XP SP3), I meet the same boot problem when trying to boot from a XP SP2 CD, or from an external HD with the same XP SP2 OS(either through USB or inserted in the main HD location inside the laptop).
What happens:
after having begun to load XP, I get a BSOD, EVEN in CONSOLE mode, at the moment where XP begins to be loaded...
Exactly the same behaviour with my XP SP2 installation CD... (which works either)
So, may a special ACER driver be needed in order to boot normally??? (like the Wifi board driver?)
It is important for me to be able to boot from my HP broken laptop disk, as there are important crypted data I can't access when this disk is used in secundary drive...)
Thank you for your attention and clues...

Hi, I had exactly the same problem (cinedash volume control doesn't work properly on windows 7). However, I've succeeded in solving it. Here's how I did it:

1) uninstall launch manager
2) reboot
3) uninstall synaptics touchpad drivers
4) reboot
5) install launch manager from acer drivers support page for windows vista (I have win 7 home premium x64 - I installed drivers for win vista home premium x64)
6) reboot
7) install synaptics touchpad drivers from acer drivers support page for windows vista (same procedure as with launch manager)
8) reboot
9) now it should work as in windows vista

Important: - do not use any compatibility solutions, simply install it
- after every reboot let your computer load and start all your programs, then install drivers
- my laptop is 6935G

if anybody tries this procedure let me know your results please, good luck

Thank You Morris,
i use GOM player and VLC player, both give me the same effect. I don't use windows media player.
remember that in the US this laptop does not support windows XP. I had to get all of the drivers for XP from international acer websites. Still this should have nothing to do with this problem.
Thank you for the driver, I will try it soon. The fact that the sound is also messed up makes me think the problem has to do with the dvd drive itself. Can I upgrade the firmware on this drive somehow?
David

I don't know what chipset your machine uses, but I recently installed Windows Home Server (core is Server 2003, so works similar to XP) on my AspireRevo 1600 (Nvidia chipset), so I had to do some hunting to find the TEXTMODE SATA ACHI driver.

Oddly enough, I found them on the Gateway Taiwan site. I don't have the link offhand, but search for SATA ACHI TEXTMODE and you should be able to find the right driver. Textmode is the text-based setup where you hit F6 to install additional drivers. This is also what you need to slipstream the driver in.

Good luck,

not sure why it is jerky, what player are you using? is your windows fully updated? updated to WMP12?

Uninstall your current driver and give this one a shot

I have a 5920G with 15.4"screen. Came with Vista but I have installed XP. The first time I installed XP I could play DVD movies just fine, but now they play jerky. They play jerky, slow, and the sound has a metallic ping to it. Reinstalling XP and drivers has not helped. I m running a hacked video driver but that was there before the issues started. Any advice?
