5920g boots but nothing on the screen
(4 posts)-
Hi all,
Since yesterday in the morning my Acer 5920g stopped showing anything in the screen. The screen just stay balck the all time. It boots normally! I can hear the windows startup sound. I can even start an application (using the start menu blindly) and listen to it's music. I am also able to shut it dow (once again blindly).
There is no image ever! Not even the initializing BIOS startup appears!
Another strange thing is that while starting up if I have the headphones connected I can listen to some beep (1 long and 2 short).
I search for the beep codes but unfortunately I just got more confused. The majority of the websites states that these beeps are due to a video card issue. Unfortunately I don't have a screen (or even TV) to try pluging the computer to it and confirm if it is really a video card issue.
I found a Aspire 5920g Service Guide and there it is stated that those beeps are for error 98h (Search for option ROMs. One long, two short beeps on checksum failure.). I search a bit more about option ROM and it's normally associated to the video. Do you think flashing the BIOS with the lastest version might solve the issue? How I am going to do this "blindly"?!
Any sugestions are very welcome!
Thank you!
Best regards

Your video card is shot and will have to be replaced. Fortunately the Acer 5920G has a replaceable ***MXM type-II*** video card. Morris has a guide to replacing it posted in the expert voices section. You can find many cards on Ebay. I myself also replaced the video card in my 5920G after I got the exact same error beep code. Works like a charm again.
Cheers
