5920g USB boot
(8 posts)-
hi there,
anyone using 5920g and installs windows or any OSes using USB?
I just don't understand why does the BIOS boots as USB1.1 and detects all thumbdrive or portable hard drive as USB1.1. whenever I wanted to boot into the setup, it will take 3+ mins.
any ideas on how to change the BIOS to boot as USB2?

All ports should be USB2, I gues you use a USB2 device, in windows you have USB2 on all ports?
Lookt like defect MB, in warranty i would send it to acer.

How are you determining that it is detecting the device as USB 1.1 ? Booting into setup, depending on what you're doing can take a while.

When I inserted my USB thumbdrive at boot (which is a USB2 device), I clicked on F8 to get to the boot menu. The boot menu states USB-HDD0: <Thumbdrive name>-USB1.1.
Yeah, that's where it states the version that it is running at. I do not think it's a defect MB, as to what I think it's just that the BIOS is an older version?
And yes, windows runs my thumbdrive as USB2.

That is weird. You could try updating the BIOS to the latest version. It's not a defect in the motherboard at all. I wouldn't send it in. Nothing is going to come of it except you loosing time and probably money for a frivolous claim.
In the end it just may be a limitation in the BIOS itself. OR there could be some weird formatting on the USB stick that's causing it to be USB 1.1 . It has been a while since I created a bootable USB drive but I remember there being a lengthy command line sequence I had to go through. Maybe re-check your steps to make sure no errors were made. Not saying that you did but it just never hurts to check.

Thanks for the suggestion, Peter! But I had updated my BIOS to the latest. Well, I hope that something may be done to my thumbdrive, hoping that it can boot in USB2.
Another info though, I tried the same thumbdrive on my sister's laptop which is an Acer 4920G and it is able to boot in USB2, same goes for my dad's desktop computer.

hey, uh, it is the same for me, to get full usb 2.0, an OS must be loaded, I am not sure why this is, as 5920 is a pretty new laptop.

The USB 2.0 driver is probably OS dependant then. THe BIOS iteself only supports 1.1 out of the box. Weird.
