6920G Erecovery failed, please help!

I just got a new Acer 6920G. I tried immediately to use its erecovery to back up the factory default onto CD, since the computer comes with none of its own backup. On the 12th CD (out of 16), I got an error message from windows saying that the erecovery program had "stopped working" and had to shut down. Upon restarting, I found that I would have to start burning CDs all over again, and that I have wasted 12 already due to this error.

I researched this problem a little and found that it seems to be a common occurrence, but I have not yet found any solutions. I do not want to waste any more CDs or DVDs on this, but I desperately want my computer backed up as soon as possible. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Have you tried DVD instead? it will only use 2 DVDs.

One thing to note, place your laptop on the flat table/place when burning.

It was on a desk while burning. I haven't tried DVDs, but I heard some complaints that the process failed with DVDs too. I'm planning on going out and getting some to try with, I'm just not very keen on the idea of wasting them. Is there any other way to handle this problem, if DVDs don't work?

alt-f10 will recover from the hard drive partition. no cd's or dvd's required.

i always recommend alt-f10 before using the cd's.

Could you please explain that in further detail? How will alt-f10 create an external backup?

@Judith: ALT+F10 will not create an external backup, it's for restoring. The only way I know is by burning from eRecovery running inside the OS.

By the way, if you can run the Factory Default from ALT+F10, then you may not need the CDs backup as long as the partition is exists.

DVD's are highly preferred to CD's for recovery disk creation. You can always download the latest version of eRecovery from Acer's website if you're having problems with the one on your system.
