Bought an Acer 6930z preloaded with Vista for my daughter going off to University. Worked ok at home for 3 months.

Since moving to her university accommodation the laptop has experienced several intermiitent BSOD episodes. Checked the event log and nothing obvious. Ran memory test and nothing obvious. Ran full virus scan and no issues.

Only difference between home and University is she's using a wired connection there and a wireless one at home.

I took the laptop off her last week to do some diagnostic work and have run various things wirelessly without an issue. This is leading me to believe that there is a possible fault with the onboard ethernet card or driver.

I'm going to run some tests over the wired network when I get home tonight but thought I'd ask if this is something that others might have come across.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Well you can always un-install the LAN port driver and install the latest one. I've seen bad LAN drivers cause BSOD's. I would try that first before anything else.
