7720G erecovery problem
(16 posts)-
Hi, I'm having trouble with my 7720G.
I tried to do a clean install using the backup discs I made on purchase. Now the install hangs at 11/12 on Install eRecovery solution.
Have I missed something? All help appreciated!colin

Bad disc.
If you have Nero or other burning tool (installed in your PC or your friend's) you can use it to check the disc quality.

thanks Ferry,
If the discs are bad, what can i do? is there a way to just stop eRecovery? I'm not fussed about general recovery, as I back up my important documents etc.colin

You can stop right now (shut the power down) and check the discs and then redo the eRecovery with good discs.

Sorry Ferry, I think we have a communication error!
I'm using the discs I originally made, to re-install back to original factory spec. I am not trying to recovery any documents etc.
I have used the original install discs that I made to reset to factory spec. Everything is fine BUT: I have a process bar at the bottom of the screen that stops at:
Process: 11/12 Install eRecovery solutionIs there a way to terminate the process? Can I stop the process from ever starting up?
Many thanks,
Colin

oh ok ^_^ I thought the recovery was stopped at disc 11 or 12. ^_^
hmm... it's an autorun process that will not stop until the whole recovery done. It can be caused by missing files, etc that cause the eRecovery to try to continue but can't.
what process/step it is (11/12)?
have you tried to redo the eRecovery? ie. insert your eRecover disc and start all over again.

Ferry, I think I'll try a full reinstall from the back-up discs again tomorrow (paperwork day!)
I'll report back with my results.

Ferry
Did a re-install using the original back-up discs. It still hangs at 11/12 on installing eRecovery.
Everything else seems fine. Is there a way to stop or prevent this process from running on startup? As I said before, all my docs etc are backed up elsewhere, so I don't need to have eRecovery.
Many thanks

hmm... I wonder what step 11/12 is...
BTW, you can do manual install. Grab a Windows Installer Disc, then install it to C partition. Don't delete your D and Hidden Partition.Posted 2 years ago # -
Hi Ferry.
1 How can I get a windows installer disc?
2 With a manual install, will I be able to install all the drivers and stuff?
3 Will I be able to select what I load on?I think I'll need step by step instructions!
Regards

@Colin: My suggestion is, bring it to local Acer point for help.

Ferry,
Thanks for your help. I telephoned PC World and went to meet the new business manager at my local shop. They are giving me a new machine with better spec (no Blu-ray) made by HP!Major result!
Once again,
My thanks,Colin

I had the same problem here.
Recovery hangs on step 11 of 12?
Step 11 of 12 is eRecovery installation (step 12 is cleanup), it looks for second partition (DATA), if you don't have it (did you make only one partition instead of the original two?) it hangs....
The 7720g I am trying to fix is driving me crazy... the one described here was only one of many!!!
As I said on the other topic dedicated to 7720g recovery problem, I am having lots of problems during recovery process, that's the story:
One week ago a friend brought me his son's 7720g (expired warranty) to recover because of problems.
Once I found recovery procedure with alt+f10 I thought the work could be quickly done... no way!
1st attempt: recovery failed with black screen after (or during) driver installation procedure. No life signs for hours. Once turned off and restarted, it stopped loading on vista's boot procedure.
2nd attempt: Disk diagnosis found some damaged sectors on hdd. I made an image of recovery partition and a restore on a fresh new disk. Installation proceeded and hanged on step 11 of 12 of acer suite installation. Problem was 2nd partition not present.
3rd attempt: Full recovery achieved, installed sp1 and sp2... reboot... machine dead and again no life signs.
Also tried a full memory test with a linux live cd, no problems found.
Restarted recovery procedure again and again... now it stops on driver installation just like my first attempt.

Wow new laptop, now that is what I call a result!
I've just been going through nightmares with erecovery on a hard drive that is getting iffy. The system restore partition is all well and good on good drives. Of course dug out the cds made when the laptop first bought (carefully stored in a box), blam! image no good:( I wish manufacturers would stick a proper recovery disc in the box. Mind you compared to some, Acer's recovery is pretty good. The last emachine I looked at was awful.
Thankfully I had managed to copy the XP i386 folder so I managed to make a working operating system disc from that (and there were even one or two Acer gotcha's with that!).
I'm learning not to trust recovery discs at all.
Now all I've got to do, as per my other post is find a drive that this 1640 will accept!

This happened with my Acer Aspire 5520 with Windows Vista Home Premium.
The solution to get past the eRecovery installation step was to kill the process Alaunchclient.exe, go to that file which is located in c:\acer\alaunch\ and set the properties of alaunch.exe and alaunchclient.exe so that they both run as administrator. Launch alaunchclient.exe right there, and it should finish up pretty quickly. It must have to do with permissions required to write to the pqservice partition.
In detail:
1) navigate to c:\acer\alaunch
2) right click alaunch.exe, select properties
3) click compatability tab
4) check the box that says run as administrator
5) repeat for alaunchclient.exeGood luck.
