   8920g out of warranty. Dismantled laptop carefully, dried it out but could see that the power switch (blue neon circle) shorted the ribbon cable (not keyboard cable) via puff of smoke. Was still hotwiring laptop into life for a couple of weeks as I was away, but it is now dead, no life at all. Since incident the battery has not held a charge, so was running laptop via mains only (display showed 8% battery life constantly)

   Was able to order the extremely difficult to get hold of ribbon cable by a fluke on ebay. This too has shorted. I now need to get this repaired properly. I would welcome suggestions as to the best, and most economical way of doing this, either using Acer support or a reputable company. Thanks in advance

   If you are located in the US, Acer offers an out of warranty repair service to correct issues such as this.
