8930 upgrade RAM/CPU?
(22 posts)-
Hi,
was wondering if it was possible to upgrade the RAM or CPU or even the GFX card on an ACER Aspire 8930?Posted 1 year ago # -
What are the specs of your laptop?
I've got Aspire 8930G with T9900 CPU, GeForce 9650M GT 1GB GPU, 2X500GB HDD and 8GB ram.
Original specs was P8400, GeForce 9600M Gt 1GB, 1x500GB HDD and 4GB RAM.
So it can be upgraded...

Acer Aspire 8930 (doesn't say 'G' on it)
Intel core 2 Duo P7350 @ 2.00ghz
4Gb Ram (3GB usable)
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
BRDVD RWit came with vista its about a year, year n half old and I upgraded to win 7 ultimate.
I'm a computing student but hardware is especially my thing. the subwoofer at the back crackles and I lose the bass alot. and now its just started dieing on me all of a sudden, so i'm thinking the fan is on its way out.
would love to upgrade the CPU, RAM and GFX card if possible and probably upgrade any system cooling (pref water if doable) just need pointing in the right direction (articles, videos etc)

You can upgrade your laptop atleast to T9900 CPU, GeForce 9650M GT 1GB GPU.
Q9000 cpu might allso be suitable for your laptop.
Have you ever cleaned your laptops cooling system? It gathers huge amount of dust in GPU&CPU coolers.
The procedure is pretty easy to do, you just have to remove the big panel in bottom of your laptop, loosen 3 fan screws and fan power cable. Now you have access to the CPU&GPU radiators.Sorry for my bad english, it´s not my native language.

hello
I have bought two strips of memory KINGSTON 4GB KVR1066D3S7/4G for my acer aspire 8930g 4g ram, but my Acer does not recognize 8gb, accepts 1x2go + 1x4go, I would like to know how to enable it to operate my 8gb
thank you

Ram is limited by two things, the chipset and the BIOS.
The Chipset in the 8930G will recognize up to 8GB if supported in the BIOS.
The Chipset in the 8930 (non-G) will only support 4GB of Ram.
Go to Acer's website to obtain the latest BIOS. If that does not enable the 8GB of RAM to work then nothing will. (Unless you've got a defective stick of RAM shipped to you, which is quite possible). A 6GB of Ram limit would be extremely unusual.

hello and thanks for you quick response
the problem is not with sticks, because I've tested one by one and it works perfectly, I am running bios 1.20, I wonder from where the problem

Are you sure that your laptop is 8930G? As allready said, the non-G version supports max 4G ram.
Check it out with everst or similar program if the motherboard is G-version or not.Posted 1 year ago # -
yes it's version 8930G

the model is AS8930-6272 P/N LX.ASYOX.357

The problem could still be with the RAM itself. The ram manufacturer may have the ram operating out of the official specifications ever so slightly. I would contact Acer directly to see which brand of ram is tested and verified to work. While you're talking to them ask and see if you're limited to 6GB of ram with your model.

thank you, and I'm curious to know their response because i have 2 Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3-1066 204PIN SODIMM Memory one of which is useless

Well, the same problem occurs on my 6935G-844G32BN which runs the same BIOS and chipset.
I bought two 4GB sticks to upgrade the 6935G to 8GB. However, it's doing well on 6GB but freezes on 8GB. Both my RAM modules are healthy. Maybe reverting the BIOS to 1.13 helps, but I didn't try that yet, did you?

Hello I've try to downgrade the bios to 1.10 and 1.13. But nothing changes, I also look at the maximum capacity of PM45 chipset and confirms a maximum 8 GB

acer probably didn't enable 8GB support on that laptop then.

Hi Ugge,
You said that your 8930G can support 8GB RAM. Is it true ?
My notebook is Aspire 8930G with T9600 CPU, 2.8GHz, GeForce 9700M GT, 4GB RAM ( ELPIDA 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500S-7-05-FP ) and 1x320GB HDD. I bought it at Oct,2008.
Now, I have upgraded the BIOS to version 1.2 and try to upgrade the RAM size from 4GB to 8GB.
Finally, the notebook can only recognize 6GB !!
If your 8930G can support 8GB RAM, do that mean I need to replace the CPU by T9900 ?
Are the pin assignment of T9600 and T9900 the same so that I can plug the T9900 in the same CPU socket ?

I got a 8930G -665G32MN,T6600 2,2Ghz and i wanna upgrade my processor.
I'm looking for a T9900/T9800 or Q9000.
How do you know for sure that a Q9000 will work Ugge? The system is basic for duo and not for quad
Posted 1 year ago # -
These are the options via Intel for the 8930 non (G),,,lol That is the link. 2 different types of chip sets which I assume is Duo vs Quad. So we are stuck @ 2.5 or 2.6 Ghz & 6 MB L2 cache... Thanks,Greg

OOOOOh & the (G) Models will host (physically) 8 gigs. The Non (G) models are limited to 4. What in the hell was Acer thinking? A hand full of almost identical models with too friggin many in betweens...
