    Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone can help me. Apologies in advance if i've placed this post in the wrong place. Please let me know.

I own an ACER 5920 laptop. Recently I was using my machine when the screen suddenly went completely blank. I thought that the battery had died so went to plug in my charger only to find that it was already pluggen in and switched on at the wall.

When I plug my charger into the wall the green light on the charger is on and everything appears fine however when I then plug it into the back of the machine the green light on the charger starts flashing and the machine remains completely dead.

I have tried all the obvious things like a different charger and trying to plug the charger in with the battery out however this does not make any difference.

Was wondering if anyone has any ideas or if this has happened to anyone else. My fear is that it could be something really easy and I would hate to go and pay a lot of money for a repair if it is something i could fix myself.

Appreciate any help anyone can offer

    Thanks

Yeah, you've got to have that looked at by a pro. Acer does offer such repair services.

    Hi,

When the LED of your charger/adaptor is flashing, when inserted in the powersocket/system and it wont power-on, your mainboard has to be replaced. All cases I got with this situation I had to replaced the mainboard to solve the 'no-power' problem.

So, send it back to Acer for repair (dont forget to send your charger with it, just incase).

    mcshanem,
I got exactly the same problem as you had. My 5290 is only one and a half year old. There must be a design fault. Have you got your problem fixed?

First things first - before changing motherboards - have you checked that your power adaptor is working correctly. My 5920G had similar symptons but a quick change of the PSU resulted in a working machine.
Either borrow a PSU from a friend with a similar machine - it needs to be a 19volt 4.74amp output.
    OR buy one of these:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270444677682
    for £21.
PSU's quite often fail on a regular basis - I end up changing three or four a month in my job.
When troubleshooting it pays to look for the simple things first before jumping to conclusions about motherboards etc.

Im not "jumping to conclusions about motherboards etc", I see this all the time, and sure people should check the simple things like the adaptor first, but thats why i said "(dont forget to send your charger with it, just incase)."

So 'mcshanem' what solved/caused the problem?!?!?

I thought the problem was the power cord was i purchased a new one and found no result, the light was still blinking. I did take it to a repair shop and they told m it was the motherboard. I looked on acers website but i didnt see any info on repairing it. Its it worth it to send it to acer to repair or remove the hard drive and install it on a different pc.

If you are out of warranty then it's going to be pretty expensive. Laptops can be fickle beasts. They are subject to a lot of wear and tear. Regardless of brand if one is not careful the laptop will suffer a lot of minor bending and flexing that will cause the motherboard to go bad over time. I see this on a weekly basis. Doesn't matter what brand, HP, Toshiba, Apple, Dell, Acer, Compaq, Sony, Asus, etc. It's the nature of the laptop form.
