Acer 6930G - Blu-Ray Drive problem

I'm having problems playing recent Blu-Ray discs on my Acer 6930G (Hellboy 2, Quantum of Solace etc..) Older BDs run fine. Entrance sequences and the menus run but then the main features just show a blank page until I try and press anything to encourage it to run when I get an "Unexpected Error" message.

I'm running Acer Arcade Deluxe version 2.0.6010 (according to the Cyberlink website most up-to-date) and the firmware for the Sony Optiarc 5500s player is 1.B2. Most up to date firmware on the Sony-Optiarc site is 1.04, but can't update as the download does not work on OEM drives.

Is anyone else having the same problem? I've contacted Acer to see if they are intending on issuing driver/firmware updates for this drive but no response yet... Any ideas what else it could be?

    Thanks!

The Acer 6930G is no laptop to ASPIRE to! Purchased one on 7th April from Amazon. Completely failed to fire up. The replacement refused to play Blu-ray to HD TV.
Acer would only give me a premium rate number to get the software configuration put right.

When I complained that I should not have to telephone a very expensive line when the laptop is not as advertised (i.e.unable to do as it is supposed to) such as one of its best selling points Acer should be responsible, they replied that the while the hardware is under warranty the software is not.

At this time I lost my cool and pointed out that the software was pre-installed by ACER and that the installed hardware will only run if the software is installed correctly and at no time should the onus be on the customer to correct this error.

Needless to say the response was not as I required and the 6930G is winging its way hopefully beneath the rear of the `ACER customer service guy'

Check the back of those blu ray's and what type of encoding is used? (MP4 AVC, VC1, MPEG2). It could also be whatever bluray profile it was made for. that info would be helpful

If you need help, then please ask. This is not an Offical Acer support page, we are all here to help each other.

I can understand your frustration, but useless rants do not help anyone with their actual problem.

1 year on and my Acer Aspire 6903G no longer plays Blu-Rays... I'm beginning to think it's all a cop-out until and unless someone can point me in the right direction. The system window told me to update and then it stopped - result being I'm left without the facility. No-one here has been able to suggest anything remotely satisfactory. And since I paid cash for the darn laptop I think I (at least) have a right to rant!

    Update:

The message I received on screen after Arcade loaded up was this:

“A critical component of the player requires periodic updates. New movies could fail to play if the critical component is not updated promptly. Would you like to update now?”

Followed by a click Yes/No facility.

Given my previous experience of selecting “Yes” and losing the whole program I would advise others to select “No”. Now what exactly should an Acer Aspire user do under these circumstances?

Fortunately I have now recovered Arcade Deluxe using the Acer eRecovery Management facility, i.e. uninstalling and reinstalling. Now the Blu Ray player works perfectly too!

Hi, I have the same problem as LondonAA have, my old movies like Twilight and Bond movies works.. but i just got Wolfman and My Bloody Valentine 3D they don't work.. and the thing is that its not the programs but the driver that don't even read the movies anymore. And as LondonAA said, I can't take down the drivers from sonys web page since the blu-ray driver is OEM, anyone have a solution or is Acer gonna release an FW update?
