Acer 9805 - Video Problem

Memberi have this acer model, but having some issues with it, which i suspect can be traced back to the video card. symptoms include weird characters showing up in the BIOS setup, and the computer freezing after a few minutes booting up in the OS (tried both Windows and Ubuntu). Any ideas on what steps to take? Thank you very much =)
