Acer Arcade Deluxe loading on startup - can't get to windows
(7 posts)-
Hi All
Suddenly had a problem yesterday evening when booting up my Acer 6920
Rather than going into Vista it went straight to Acer Arcade Deluxe (which I have never used) and I could not exit from there to get back to Windows. Clicking on exit just caused the machine to go into Hibernate and when we rebooted we ended up right back in acer arcade deluxe.
After going round in circles for several hours we managed to get back to Vista by holding down the power button whilst it rebooted. However the same thing happened again this morning when we turned it on so the problem doesn't seem to have gone away.
Saw some older threads on this but couldn't see if anyone got a solution for it.
The cinedash is also not functioning now. It is completely unresponsive but the mute button and volume dial are illuminated.
Can anyone help? I would just uninstall Acer Arcade Deluxe (as I said I've never used the thing) but I've read that Windows Media Player just starts doing the same then and this can stop the cnedash working (which I do use)
Help!?

I've always had this problem, just had to hold the power button and start up again. Frustrating but i never found out how to fix it.

Try re-installing the launch manager software. First I would try booting the computer without it installed. This will most likely result in the Cinedash itself to not work. But if it solves the booting into Acer Arcade then we know it's tied to the launch manager or the Cinedash itself.

This has to do with the "Hold" button on the CineDash Media Console. The laptop will almost always boot into Acer Arcade Deluxe if the Hold button is left on when you shutdown.
So, never forget to turn off the Hold button before you shutdown. I for one have stopped using it at all lest I forget. It works for me.

Acer Arcade Deluxe comes pre-installed in 2 places on your laptop - first as a program in Windows Vista and second as a "InstantOn" function in a hidden 4GB partition with embedded Windows XP.
Pressing the "Arcade Man" button on your CineDash media console would send your system to InstantOn. However, due to a glitch, leaving the "Hold" button ON when you shutdown your system would almost always send it to InstantOn the next time you power up.
Although some forums may advice you to get rid of (nuke) the hidden partition as a solution (un-Acer it) and do a clean install, I would never do that nor would I recommend it.
Like I suggested in my earlier post, you can live with the Devil by never forgetting to turn OFF the "Hold" button before you shutdown. I personally haven't had the problem on my 8920G in months since I stopped using the Hold button.

Thanks for the help
Seems to be working now so I guess aslong as I steer clear of that hold button I'll be ok

Dear Acer Guy,
I have a problem with an Acer Aspire 6920. Here's what happened:
The notebook was functioning reliably for many months and used every day. Then one day it decided to not boot into Vista anymore. Instead it booted into the Acer Arcade Deluxe environment. Any attempt to exit Acer Arcade Deluxe would cause the notebook to immediately hiberate. In this state the notebook was already unusable because it was not possible to boot into Vista.
So Googling around I found the following page which matched by problem exactly: http://www.theacerguy.com/forum/topic/acer-arcade-deluxe-loading-on-startup-cant-get-to-windows
I followed the instructions to hold down the power key in order to do a hard reboot. The hard reboot worked but the following message appeared instead of Vista:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
At the point I suspected that maybe there's some sort of disk corruption. HOWEVER, during reboot then F2 no longer works to enter the BIOS. There seems to be no bios any more. So maybe this is why the Windows file cannot be found -- because the bios is missing?
So I looked around the Acer support site. The BIOS update utility seems to only work from a booted copy of Windows so it's no use for my problem since I can't boot or enter the BIOS.
What can I do?
Please help!
