    Hi,

I just purchased the Acer Aspire 4730Z notebook a few weeks ago, and every time i try to create a recovery CD, eRecovery locks up/hangs & I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL or power the notebook down in order to regain access to the notebook.

Is there an update somewhere that could help, or maybe something anyone may know about that could cause this or could alleviate this prob?

I would like to have a recovery CD before I end up crashing the thing from trying to create said CD. ;-)

BTW, it has Win Vista Home Premium on it, if that matters.

How long have you left the program to run? I know that my store has made disks for the 4730Z before without a problem, but I can't say how long it took to make them. Sometimes I can remember that the inistal startup can take a bit of time. Also, get a pair of DVD's instead of using goodness knows how many CD's.

I purchased a 4730Z three days ago. Cheap but does everything I need. I had no problem creating the backups. I did use DVD's for the backup, a total of three. The total backup was a little over 8G. The first two disk filled up at about 20 minutes each with the verification process. The third took less than ten minutes. Try DVD's if you have been trying Cd's. I had no problem with mine.

I'm using DVD's also, as I read somewhere that it could take more than a handful of CDs, versus just 2 to 3 DVDs.

The eRecovery still doesn't work, and when I called tech support, I was told that you can only make the recovery CD on the FIRST DAY. The support rep said that I will not be able to make recovery CDs now; it's now a feature that's locked out. No wonder why I can let it sit for an hour & still nothing happens.

I tried to explain that I've been TRYING to make the recovery CD since Day 1! Instead, she said that since I can no longer create a recovery CD, I am left with the option to buy it from them instead. WTF?

She said I could try to start the laptop & run the recovery from POST and see if the drive can be set up to go back to its initial state, and then maybe I can run the recovery program from there.

I don't want to go that route because what if that option DOESN'T work either? Why should I assume it will, when I can't even get the recovery program to run properly to create the CDs? If I did that and it didn't work, I'd have to call tech support again and what then, I have to wait 2 weeks or so for them to mail me recovery CDs that I have to pay for?! WTF?

This is frustrating, especially since the laptop is just days old so it's still uder warranty, yet I'm not getting much in terms of customer support. In fact, I had to call severla numbesr to get to the "right" one. I tried the number in the manual, which matched the one online, and they connected me to fee-based tech support. Those people then said that I shouldn't have to deal with them because my issue should be covered by the warranty, so they gave me a different number to call that wasn't fee-based. When I called THAT number, they didn't even try to trouble shoot or anything. They were the ones who said I needed to buy the recovery CDs. It's taken over 3 days of getting the run-around on the phone to get that answer, so I am not a happy camper. :-(

So I guess I am now posing the question on you folks: Does anyone have any suggestions on creating a recovery CD somehow, or on how to ensure that the recovery on POST does in fact, work for this model laptop?
