Acer Aspire 5515 Notebook Wireless problems
(6 posts)-
The other night my wireless connection was working fine. Now when I turn my computer on, I cannot wirelessly connect to the internet. When I slide the Wireless LAN communication button to the left, a green messsage saying "No Wireless Device" appears. I also checked the Network Adapters under the Device Manager and it says that I have Realtek RTL8102E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) and it says it's working properly. I don't know what's wrong.

Any recent changes? Windows updates or anything of that nature?
When you say you can't connect do you mean it doesn't see any networks or that it does but can not connect or make a connection?
Have you tried installing an updated driver for the device either from Realtek or Acer support?

Windows hasn't been able to update. It keeps saying that it "encountered an unknown error".
It doesn't see any networks. I can only connect to the internet if I plug the Ethernet cable into it.
I tried downloading the latest driver from Acer support, but that didn't work.

If you are also having issues with windows updates I would suggest backing up any important data you may have and doing a full system recovery on the machine. This will help to rule out any software issues that may be causing the wireless not to function properly.

That's what happened to me and my acer - I have done everything suggested to eliminate software issues, had similar problems and eventually concluded that my wifi card died. Check your device manager to see if it even displayed first - if not, you might have to do the same thing I am about to do now, i.e. force my netbook open and change the wifi card.
