ACER ASPIRE 6920g
(2 posts)-
I insert a firewire express card (I have tried several different cards) in my Aspire 6920g, power on and the wireless adaptor (inside laptop) does not operate (no orange light) and no internet. If I want to use the wireless, I have to unplug the card and reboot. I can't use firewire and wireless internet at the same time. the ACER technicians say there is no problem. Acer blame the card, but the card of which I have tried three different fire-wire express cards. The card chip-set is TI (Texas Instruments) XIO 2200, which is what Belkin, Startech, SIIG use, so this is meant to be the best compatibility.
I have sent a letter of complaint to ACER 03/09/09 because they have dispatched my laptop from warranty, without resolving the problem. Their excuse is the warranty does not support third party hardware. They don't say the laptop is not compatible with fire-wire express cards so therefore the laptop is not fit for the purpose intended.
I am really upset about this because the laptop cost me over £1000. I would have expected this sort of bad service or compatibility from a laptop worth £500, but even then it should work with any express slot. Very dissappointing, but I'll take this issue further if they don't sort something out for me.Many Thanks,
Gwion
