Acer Aspire 8942g hdmi intermittent sound problem

I have just purchased a 8942g laptop and have noticed an annoying problem when playing DVD on my LCD TV using the HDMI connection. The sound intermittenly disapears for a few seconds and then comes back. This happens very frequently.
Interestingly playback from itunes did not have this problem.
Any ideas? Thanks for your help.
