Acer Aspire One - Not recognizing 2nd SD Slot
(2 posts)-
Hi All: I have an Aspire One with the 8 GB solid stare C: drive, plus an additional 8 GB SD card in the left hand slot. The machine is running Windows XP. Machine is working great except for a problem recognizing the SD card in the left hand slot.
In reading reviews, etc. before selecting this model, they all indicated that the machine should treat the card in the left hand slot as an extension of the internal drive - essentially making the C: drive 16 GB. That is not happening; it shows up as d: drive in Windows. And if I try to write directly to the d: drive, I get a "write protected" message, so I can't write to it.
The SD card in the slot is fine - if I put it in the other SD reader slot, it works fine.
All the reviews that talked about the OS treating the second card as part of the C; drive referred to the Linux OS version; does it not work the same way in Windows XP?
Acer tech support has been little help; at this point I just want to confirm how it is supposed to work!
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

the storage expansion slot only combines with the ssd with the Linpus Linux version of the Aspire One. Under windows, it will be treated as just a card reader.
It should be able to read SD cards, but may have issues with some SDHC cards. At 8GB on an SD card, it is most likely SDHC.
as always, make sure the write protect tab on the card is not set.
