Acer crystal eye stopped working?
(17 posts)-
Hi, hope someone can help me. I have a new laptop only a few weeks old. Acer aspire 2930Z. The crystal eye 720p webcam was working fine at first, then the other day i tried to put it on so i could video chat with my grandsons on skype, and it was not working. Kept getting an error message to look online for a solution to the problem but nothing was found and it said try later. Trouble is, silly me uninstalled it and now i dont know what to do??? I tried to find the drivers online but did not know whether to trust the download. Tried one and got nothing? Hellllp???

I have an acer asper one, it stopped working today as well. I was using it this morning and then when i loaded skype it worked, I turned skype off and it wouldn't come back on, says its not found on my computer. I tried loading the drivers from e recovery and from the acer site but they both tell me to plug in my camera inoder to continue installation of the drivers. My camera is internal so i can't. I moved the pictures from the folder and that hasn't helped either. Any suggestions?

Can't say I've encountered that one before. You can trust the driver downloads off of Acer's website. Does the webcam work with any other applications?

I feel you, my cam for the Acer Aspire One, just died. Was working fine, then all of a sudden, it started getting darker and darker till now it just looks like the color is transposed. Really irritating, this thing is only 2 weeks old. Any suggestions?

Here is a fallow up to the Crystal Eye Cam all of a sudden not working. I tried re installing the drivers (didn't work), tried reformatting the netbook back to factory settings (didn't work). So, I called Acer tech support, (What a joke). I knew more then him, when I asked what they were going to do for me, since this Acer aspire one 150 is less the 3 weeks old, he stated, "What would you like me to do?" I said, I'd like to have something I paid for work, wouldn't you? He then stated, they have service agreements with Best buy, so I could drop it off there no charge for repair. Good luck people, doesn't look like there is a fix for the "Disappearing webcam".....
How can they sell something like this?Irritating!

We got customer care issues, I know, and the fact it's both in my face (here) and a million miles away (reality) kills me at times.
Anyway....
@tottonfemale40 I'm seeing a Suyin Camera Driver V3.0.5.1 available from the Acer PanAm Support site. Have you tried that? If not and should you need to get in touch with Acer support have a look at this article I wrote a while back. Same instructions to find out exactly what you have installed.
@Acers Makin Me Cry Haven't come across this on an Aspire One before. I'll give tech support a nudge.
@buzzradio There's always a fix. They're called statutory rights...

Ok, I contacted Acer support, went in circles, finally got MAD, the guy broke down and said, we can fix it, but you need to send it to us. I said OK, when you sending the pre-paid box for shipment, he said, we're not, you (I) have to pay for shipping! I was like WTF? Why should I pay for your faulty product? I'm not paying a red cent! This is BS!!! Very upset......
Sorry guys, had to vent..............

Hi Guys! I see that this is a pretty common problem. My camera stopped working for me this morning too. When I tried to install the drivers from erecovery, it told me to plug in the camera before it would continue with the install. Well because it is an on-board camera (I'm sure you know), I couldn’t plug it in. I searched (like all of you) to find a fix when I found this forum. I didn’t find a fix anywhere else, but luckily I have a genius for a boyfriend and this is what he had me do!
These are the steps below, but they are a little paraphrased because when I realized we had fixed it, I didn’t want to go back into the driver wizard. They are very user friendly (I did it!!) and therefore very thorough.1. Download the Acer drivers and save on your computer. *Make sure you unzip the folder and know where that is being saved as well.
2. Go into “Device Manager” and there should be an "Unknown Device" listed under the USB Devices. The “Unknown Device” should be the camera.
3. Right click the device and "Update Drivers"
4. The drivers Wizard should pop up and will ask you if you want to find the driver through windows. It will more than likely give you 4 choices, I selected "Do not connect to windows update at this time"
5. Next it will ask you if you have an installation disk and if you do to put it in the proper drive. Click “Advanced” and it will give you an option to select the folder to install drivers from. Click “Browse” and select the unzipped folder
*Remember you needed to know where you saved this file6. You will probably have to click through your folder a few times before the "Ok" button is available to click. (Please be patient, I made the mistake my first time trying this and ended up opening too many folders and missing the correct one. It will allow you to click "Ok" when you are in the right spot)
7. The wizard will do it's thing and will give you a message once it's done that reads something like "Windows could not update the device because of software.. something or other”. It will state that if you want to use this software for the device click finished. Please click “Finish”...I was hesitant the first time I tried and ended up going through more work and frustration before I decided to do this step again.
8. Once the wizard closes, reboot your computer. Once windows restarts go to "My Computer" and you will see "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam", Open this icon and your camera should be back up and running. I really hope this helps you all out!

hi
I bought an aspire one d 250 netbook with inbuilt crystal eye webcam 4 days ago. yesterday I installed skype on it. When i tried to test the video , skype said it couldn't find a webcam. When i did an online webcam test, it also couldn't find a cam. Downloaded drivers, but, as also mentioned by previous posters, can't run them because I have to plug in the cam...
I was hopiing the solution from turtledove would help, but unfortunately, there is no webcam in the device manager, not as an imaging device nor as an unknown usb controller.i'm beginning to fear this is a hardware failure; Or are there any other ways to fix this? thanx!

yep, sounds like the camera may be bad.

When i now put Skype Video Chat on, the cam is working again, although the picture is very dark. I am thinking this just must be a glitch with all crystal eye webcams, learn from this, and don't buy Acer products again, also tell Acer that you won't be buying from them again. Then maybe their tech staff will get off their bums and sort their dodgy software out!

my webcam isn't working, whenever i click on the app the box shows up but all you see is a blue screen where the picture is supposed to be. how do i fix this?!?

Before you start reinstalling drivers, try this:
Right click on the desktop icon for the Crystal Eye. Click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Under Compatibility Mode, check the box beside "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Click OK. Double click the desktop webcam icon and look for your own smiling face. (Then you can go back and turn off XP compatibility, and the camera will still work.)
Anyway, it worked for me with a blacked-out Crystal Eye on a 4530 Aspire running Vista. Good luck!

@ideonaut - THANK YOU! I tried what you said and I have Windows 7...first I tried the XP service pack thing and it didn't work so I went back in and changed it to Windows 7 - voila! It works PERFECTLY! Not sure why it would just stop working - but so glad I read your comment and it's working now!! <3 Much love and appreciation!
