    Hi,
Now im sure you have had MANY requests for information regarding this.. but i would like to make sure of a few things before i take any action.

    1. Is this a scam? If not, how and why did this offer come about and why shouldnt i be concerned about submitting information to a 3rd party website?
    2. How can the 3rd party company tell when you purchased your Acer machine?

I purchased my particular machine several months before the dates specified by the offer, yet, my model IS listed as being eligable. I dont want to appear to be a freeloader, but i know for a fact that running Windows 7 on my system will GREATLY improve its perfomance and would therefor increase my satisfaction with the product.

    Can you help?

1 - it's not a scam. media mentor is used to fulfill the order from microsoft.
    2. you will have to send in your proof of purchase to complete your order.

if you don't want to be a freeloader, don't try and scam a free copy.

A bit of a harsh responce. If i had've been of a 'freeloading' spirit i wouldn't have have sought information first..
I just wanted to make sure i had the right information given that 90% of web based advice/content is unfounded rubbish.

Just fyi, been a big fan (and word of mouth recommender) of this website for a while and offered much praise for the quality of content and service..
    Thanks for the reply.

not trying to be harsh, you stated you didn't want to appear to be a freeloader. Your words, not mine.

FYI, just because the model is listed as being eligible, does NOT mean that you're eligible for the upgrade. You also had to have purchased it between the dates specified (here in Canada, those dates were June 26th, 2009 'til Jan 31st 2010, don't know if the dates are different in other countries).

It's definitely NOT a scam. All major computer manufacturers are offering this deal so people aren't deterred from buying up the older Vista machines.

Which third party website are you talking about, by the way? Here's the Acer site for the Windows 7 upgrade:

    http://www.acer.com/windows7upgrade/

If you're seeing it from a different website, then yeah... I'd definitely question the validity of the upgrade.
