   Hi there have installed another 320 hard drive in the 8920G laptop. It will not show up in my computer as an additional hard drive with a letter but it does show under add and remove hardware. Is there anything I should be changing in the laptop so that it can find the new hard drive. Thanks in advance. I just slid in the hard drive I don't know if there is anything else I can do. Have tried everything.

   -Make sure it is connected properly in the SATA port.
   -Can you see it in the bios?
   -Format the harddisk.
   -Set a drive letter for it (under "admin.tools>>comp.management>>disk management>>set drive letter and reboot").

   i have an acer aspire 6920.. it came with windows vista preinstalled. i want to format the hard drive and install windows xp pro. when i go about doing it, it tells me that it cannot detect hardisk or recognize a hard disk. i know for sure the windows xp is brand new.

   please can you tell me what i can do to format and how can i format.

   From the Vista side of your computer, right click "Computer" then click "Manage." Go to Disk Management then locate your drive. Quick reformat it to NTFS with all the defaults.

   Technically XP should find it easily and you should be able to reformat even a RAW drive. Hopefully doing this wakes up the drive to be used.

   Remember: There are other steps needed to rebuild your BCD (boot section) to get the Vista side of the computer up and running again. Those are explained in other tutorials on this site.

   Ones to remember or look up:

   Editing the BCD to make Vista the default bootloader.

   Installing AHCI after XP is installed without them. (Can be found here:)

   Reloading the Acer MBR to allow for Alt+F10 Disk 2 Disk (D2D) recovery mode.
