Aspire 1 wont aquire ip address
(4 posts)-
Hello I hope you can help me.
I have recently purchased a Netgear N300 router and have managed to connect my Dell laptop to it no problem so I know the router is working. The thing is I cannot connect my Acer Aspire One netbook to it via the wireless. My netbook locates the router and I can enter the passwword but it fails to aquire ip address.
Im not too computer savvy and Ive not been able to find any direct fixes searching other forums and found this one so I thought I would ask if anyone here knows what can possibly be wrong.
Thanks in advance.

plug it into the router, does it work?
if so, probably a setting on your router.
if not, maybe network issues on the laptop.
also, does it connect to another wifi router? find an open router at like a hotel or coffee shop.

Hello thanks for your reply.
Wired I can get a connection and I previously had a Netgear WGR614 which I had no problem connecting the netbook or laptop to. I can also connect on friends routers, a BT hub plus a linksys.
For the last few days it has failed to aquire network address but today this is what has happened on all security settings:
None = Can connect no problem
WEP = connects with limited or no connectivity
WPA-PSK [TKIP] = fails to aquire network address (this is the one I was advised to use)
WPA2-PSK [AES] = connects with limited or no connectivity
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] = Connects with limited or no connectivityOn the ones with limited or no connectivity it is failing to receive the packets sent so fails to load a web page.
As I bought it through my ISP they will not offer me technical support unless I sign a 6 month contract @ £6pm. Netgear will not offer me support as I bought it through my ISP and I am not paying Acer £1.50 pm for out of warranty support.
I dont know my way around the router settings but other than the above Ive mentioned I have also tried changing channels.
Other than that its all new to me sorry.

sounds like a driver update is needed.
probably an atheros 5007xx or similar wireless card?
if so, try this site for updated drivers.
