    Hi,

My son has an Acer Aspire 6920G which is about six months old. All has been working fine until yesterday when he booted it up and the fingerprint reader wasn't operational.

It doesn't appear anywhere in the start menu, but it is there in "Programs and Features" in Control Panel, but when it is selected it reports that there is a problem and that it can't locate the software, BUT the program does appear to be there in Program Files/Acer.

Also, although there are shortcuts in the start menu for Acer eData Security Management and Acer eRecovery Management the programms do not appear to be there - he gets an error message when either of these are clicked on.

I've downloaded and installed the Acer eData Security Management for this model from the official Acer web-site.

I've also downloaded and the eRecovery management software but when I try to install that i get an error message "eRecovery can not be intalled -6. SoftwareDisc".

Finally, this also caused all shortcuts to one of his games (Sims3) to disappear, and it also disappeared from the Games folder on the start menu, but the programme is there and runs fine if he double-clicks on the .exe

H The laptop is fully protected with Kaspersky and it does not report any problems.

I would really welcome any ideas or suggestions at this point because I am lost as to what to do next.

    Thanks in advance

could be a bad hard drive, but really sounds like a virus. try scanning with an online virus scanner.
