Aspire 6920G, BASS hardware failure

    Hi, Folks.

I was given an Aspire 6920G six months ago, and on the whole I am very pleased with it as it has adequate performance for most games, even GTA 4 with a few tweaks, and the only changes made have been a change from Vista to Win 7 64 ult with no major problems.

About two weeks after I got it (still with the stock Vista at the time and not changed in any way), it was playing some mp3's via Winamp and as I walked past it the sound lost all bass and became very tinny, cheap ear bud headphones tinny, and sounded awful. I frigged with the settings, changed the driver a few times, all the usual stuff but nothing could get the bass to return

Trawling around the web located several people with a similar problem, a failed or burnt out bass (tuba, assistance unit?) player that requires a HW fix.

Now, I am quite willing to change the failed hardware myself (I do have experience), but I need to know what part I need to buy(part No?), where to buy it, what it's actually called and what it will cost. Is there a different or upgraded part I can use, superior to the original for better bass? (I don't want to overtax the hardware though)

Any pitfalls to watch out for would also be appreciated. Is it best replaced from the top or bottom of the unit? What needs to be removed, is it just a quick swap out or does the entire system need to be dismantled? Any soldering involved?

I would appreciate any advice on this subject.

    Many thanks.
