I have a ACER Aspire 6930 purchased in Sept 2008. It has a Seagate 5400 250GB Momemtus drive. It also has a second drive bay. I want to use a OCZ SSD as the Win7 boot drive. I am already running Win 7 PRO now but I am planning on starting from scratch with a new install on a SSD and keeping my data on the Seagate.

The one thing I do not like about ACER is the poor documentation available. Even the service manual, which I tracked down doesn't show how to switch out the hard drive or add a second one. I opened up the case and have some questions for those of you who have worked on ACERs.

I opened up the case and on the existing Seagate there is a metal plate that is the mount and it appears that it slips on to the connectors and then provides it’s own connector. I assume you remove the drive and slip the metal plate off in order to expose the hard drive. Is this how the second drive bay is suppose to work?

I have a drive bay for the 2nd drive space but I can not figure out how a drive would mount or connect. There is a single small connector available in the drive bay, but it is not meant for a SATA power or signal connector. Do I need to purchase some kind of mount and or connector adapter that the available plug is suppose to go to?

Does ACER provide any documentation for this and if so, where can I find it? Is there a way to check my serial number to see if I can even support a second drive? Thanks for any help you can give me!

You will need the additional metal casing and normally a different plastic cover for the 2nd HDD bay. Other than that you shouldn't need any additional connectors.

    42.AVB07.001 COVER.DOOR.HDD.2ND.ZK2
    33.ASR07.003 BRACKET.HDD.2ND.ZK2

Those are the two parts you will need for a 2nd HDD in this model.

I have just opened up a 6930G to look at the 2nd HDD connector on the mainboard, looks good for a Sata HDD to slide straight onto it unlike the primary HDD which has a connector on it.
