Aspire 8930G and CAD software
(4 posts)-
I use an Aspire 8930G and CAD software (AutoCAD and ArchiCAD). Problem with display. Particluarly in AutoCAD. Hard to explain but for example my crosshairs when I move the mouse seems to flash when moving - i.e. it doesn't move very smoothly on screen. The same when I draw a line or whatever there seems to be a slight delay on screen. Really annoying. All my desktops and IBM thinkpad which have a far lower spec of hardware than the Acer laptop don't do this. This is basic 2D drafting, nothing intricate. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there a setting somewhere I can change to sort this? Please help. Thanks. David

Sussed it out. For anyone that's interested the problem was the graphics card in the Acer isn't apparently up to much when using AutoCAD. It seems to be soemthing to do with Windows Aero Desktop. It's allegedly pretty hard on the graphics card. Two solutions:
1. Buy a better graphiocs card that can handle windows aero desktop without performance reduction in other programs, or
2. Turn off aero desktop - right click on desktop, pick personalise and choos a non-aero scheme.
Worked for me.
Cheers

Try updating your video driver?

I had tried that Peter. Updated it a few times from different sources. Autodesk don't support the graphics card I have. However, turning off aero desktop gives me a workable solution. Thanks
